Not Your ‘Typical’ State of the Union

ABC News’ Ann Compton Reports: Teasing reporters at his daily briefing that he was finally ready to share a little about the upcoming state of the Union address, Tony Snow offered that this year’s address will not be a "typical" State of the Union because the President will avoid a long recitation of items that will be in the budget. Instead this will focus on larger themes — War on Terror, energy, health care, environment, immigration, education.  Notice Iraq falls under the broader category of War on Terror.

Tony flatly denied the premise of a New York Times question — whether the speech will be thematic because the new Democratic Congress would not be receptive to a long list of his priorities. But Snow seemed to suggest ratings are a factor and a long budget speech might put the huge prime time TV audience to sleep.

On length: "Honestly, I dont know." Snow says they are still in the early stages of drafting the the speech.
