Although the “rebuking process” is more symbolic than practical, it does send a distinct message to the President that he can no longer expect the Legislative Branch to give him carte blanche in his dirty little war. Sen. Hagel is absolutely correct in his assertion that any resolution the Senate considers will spark some kind of debate–which should have occurred at the outset of the war instead of now–as to how much we Americans should commit to this endeavor.
