Clinton Aims for $15 Million Haul, Says Aide
ABC News’ Tahman Bradley Reports: In what might be a an effort to lower expectations, a top aide to Sen. Hillary Clinton’s, D-N.Y., presidential campaign predicted Wednesday that the former First Lady would raise twice as much money in the first three months of her 2008 presidential campaign as former Senator John Edwards, D-N.C., did in the first quarter of his 2004 presidential bid.
"It’s a high goal. It doubles the highest that anybody raised in ’04." said Ann Lewis, a senior Clinton advisor. "We’re thinking positively. We’re thinking we’ve got the campaign, we’ve got the team and I think there’s a lot of interest and excitement out there and we feel we can get there."
For more than an hour in Washington, D.C., Clinton met today with some her biggest fundraisers and supporters. Clinton’s backers also heard from a handful of her top aides including, campaign manager Patti Solis Doyle, pollster Mark Penn, and media consultant Mandy Grunwald.
Lewis avoided answering a question about whether Clinton would disclose the names of her bundlers as President Bush did in both of his presidential campaigns.
"You’ll have to check with the people who are actually doing the work of putting the finance team together," said Lewis. "I’m not part of that."
Lewis was similarly non-committal when asked whether Clinton would participate in the Democratic presidential candidate debates, which various liberal interest groups are currently organizing.
"I have heard so many dates floating around that I am cautious about saying how many she’ll be able to participate in," said Lewis. "The debate invitations seems to be coming faster period so I think we’re going to have to take a look and see how many we can do."
