Giuliani joins Republican ’08ers at CPAC

ABC News’ Tahman Bradley Reports: Former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani’s is the latest Republican 2008 presidential hopeful to announce plans to address the Conservative Political Action Conference this weekend in Washington, DC.

Despite his moderate views on abortion, gun control and gay rights, Giuliani will be trying to court social conservatives along with fomer Govs. Mitt Romney, R-Mass., Jim Gilmore, R-V.a., Mike Huckabee, R-Ark., Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Kan., and Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., at this year’s conference.

Former House Speark Newt Gingrich R-Ga., is also scheduled to address the gathering. 

The ’08ers will be center stage when the results of a presidential preference straw poll are announced at the closing of the conference.  Last year’s winner, former Sen. George Allen R-V.a., is no longer in the running for the Republican nomination in 2008 after losing a close Senate reelection fight last November. 

Sen. John McCain R-Ariz., is not scheduled to attend CPAC this year.
