McCain Talks Campaign, Iraq on ABC’s This Week

ABC News’ Lindsay Hamilton Reports: On This Week with George Stephanopoulos, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., responded to the front page New York Times story noting that the 2008 presidential campaign team he is assembling includes three members of the 2000 Bush team that made commercials McCain claimed distorted his record and the firm that made the 2004 Swift Boat Veterans ads McCain called "dishonest and dishonorable."

McCain’s response: "These are good people who were doing as they were instructed. They are people who shape the message and don’t dictate it.  But the second thing is, most of them are good people. They are all good people, otherwise I wouldn’t hire them. And they have done a good job in the…myriad of campaigns they’ve been involved in."

McCain also explained his position on Iraq, saying he is worried that 21,500 additional troops aren’t enough, but that there are no good alternatives.

"I would have liked to have seen more," he said. "But apparently, and it’s quite a commentary that this is all we got. This is, as I said earlier, all in."

He later added, "If there was a good option to what we’re doing, to sending more young Americans in harm’s way, I’d tell you. They’re all bad options, in my view, if this one isn’t supported and succeeds."
