Republican Congressman Norwood Dies

ABC News’ Dean Norland Reports: Rep. Charlie Norwood, R-Ga., died Tuesday afternoon at his Georgia home.

Norwood had been receiving care in Washington until he and his family decided last week to forgo any further treatment for lung cancer that eventually spread to his liver.  Norwood’s Congressional office confirms to ABC News that the seven-term Republican died surrounded by his family.

The Congressman, 65, had not resigned from Congress and will leave a vacancy in his heavily Republican district.  Democrats currently hold a 233-202 majority.

A former dentist, Norwood’s signature legislative achievement is perhaps his sponsorship of a "Patient’s Bill of Rights".
