Rice Discourages Micromanagement of Iraq

ABC News’ Lindsay Hamilton reports: Speaking with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice discouraged Congress from micromanaging the war in Iraq.

When asked if she thought Congress had the authority to strip some of President Bush’s war power, Rice said she thinks the oversight role is important, "but when it comes to the execution of policy in the field, that has to be a clean relationship between the commander-in-chief and the commanders in the field."

"If you ever disrupt that chain, then you’re going to have the worst micromanagement of the military affairs, and it’s always served us badly in the past," she said.

Rice also reached out to Iranian President Ahmadinejad, who this morning said Iran would push forward with their nuclear program.

"Iran has another course that it can take," she offered. "If it stops its enrichment and reprocessing activities as demanded by the international community, we’re all prepared to have full-scale negotiations any time and any place."
