They’re Listening
ABC News’ Luis Martinez Reports: Two weeks ago a little-known Pentagon official responsible for detainee affairs named Cully Stimson tried to get a little positive spin for Guantanamo by doing a series of radio interviews. Instead, he created a furor by taking it upon himself during one of those interviews to say that if America’s big-name corporations knew that their law firms were defending detainees at Guantanamo they’d take their business elsewhere. A furor followed and a few days later Stimson apologized in a letter printed in the Washington Post. As of Friday, he’s out of a job. Stimson submitted his resignation on Thursday as a direct result of the fiasco and Friday was his last day on the job. Spokesman Bryan Whitman denied that Defense Secretary Robert Gates asked him to resign, but did say that Stimson told him today that he felt he could not continue on in his post in light of the current controversy.
