Biden: Gonzales Should Consider Stepping Down

ABC News’ Teddy Davis Reports: Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., a senior member of the Senate Judiciary Committee and a 2008 presidential candidate, told ABC News Tuesday that he thinks Alberto Gonzales should consider stepping down from his position as Attorney General of the United States. 

‘Well, I think he should consider it," Biden told ABC News. "I think he’s lost the confidence of a significant number of the members of the Senate. I mean — this is not the only event."

Gonzales is under fire from Democrats in Congress who charge that the dismissals of eight U.S. Attorneys announced last December were politically motivated.

Kyle Sampson, the Gonzales aide in charge of the dismissals, resigned his position Monday. Sampson’s resignation came after acknowledging that he did not tell Justice Department officials about the extent of his communications with the White House, leading those Justice officials to provide incomplete information to members of Congress, The Washington Post reported Tuesday.

Biden made his comments about Gonzales as he was entering the Washington Hilton and Tower Hotel to give a speech to the National League of Cities.
