Bush Asks for 4000 More Troops
The print pool reporter and ABCNews’ Jessica Yellin reports: President Bush approved 4,000 more troops for Iraq and Afghanistan in a letter to Congress he signed on a plane en route to Montevideo Friday night. The action approves General David Petraeus’ request for the additional troops, which are a supplement to the 21,500 originally requested by the President in January.
Roughly half of the troops will be used for detainee support and the other half for combat support, according to White House National Security Council Spokesman Gordon Johndroe.
According to the letter, the White House says the additional troops will cost $3.2 billion but the costs will be offset by cuts in the administration’s original budget proposal made in February. Those cuts include $598.2 for the Regional War on Terror and "reflect the most recent reduction in fuel prices."
Budget modifications are known as supplementals and can only be requested by the President.

I know where the money comes from – when G wants a few billion, they just shuffle some paper money.
But where do these troops come from? Are they combat ready? Are there more? How many? And then why don’t we just send them all?

This is a great Idea. we should rather push more troops into this effort. i think the fund should come out of welfare. and we should raise the taxes on the liberals and democrats.

Let Congress say No to more troops, put the money into taking care of wounded.
Let us take care of our soldiers and keep them from harms way.

Are you crazy ??? send MORE troops into a CIVIL WAR to be targets? Haven’t we lost enough of our troops in a war of choice? Wake up America.. The GW admin. has sent more troops, cut funding for the wounded and he wants more?? We gotta end this madness, lets not put anymore American troops in a place where the Military leaders say that this can’t won with more troops. Bring ‘em home not send more!!
