Dodd’s Pod

ABC News’ Jennifer Parker Reports: If you had to guess, which one of the 2008 presidential candidates do you think regularly rocks out to his iPod?

You may be surprised to learn that 62-year-old Senator Chris Dodd, D-Conn., loves his iPod so much, he is asking voters to send him music suggestions.

The ’08 contender is appealing to visitors of his website in a letter titled ‘Dodd Pod’:

"I love to use my iPod to listen to music, books on tape, and podcasts," writes Dodd on his ’08 campaign website. "Now I’m asking you to be part of the fun and the conversation," he said.

The Senator wants voters to suggest a song, podcast or audio "testimonial" for his iPod.

In addition to getting a place on Dodd’s own iPod, the submissions and comments are also posted to his website.

"I’ve listed the play list from the last few weeks below," writes Dodd about submissions ranging from Red Hot Chili Peppers’ ‘Save the Population’, to ‘Even the Losers (get lucky sometimes)’ by Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, to Journey’s ‘Don’t Stop Believing.’

On last week’s playlist, Mike L. submitted ‘Elevation’ by U2, and wrote, "Because your poll numbers keep rising."

Jason, who submitted Radiohead’s ‘Optimistic’, writes, "I’m very optimistic about your chances, sir."

With pages on the social networking sites MySpace and Facebook, and campaign photos posted to Flickr.com, a popular photo-sharing site, Dodd is attempting to grab the attention of young voters.

But the senator’s campaign staff says Dodd really does listen to his iPod.

"He’s traveling all over the country, and was genuinely looking for suggestions to fill his iPod," explained Hari Sevugan, deputy communications director for the Dodd campaign.

"It reflects Senator Chris Dodd’s opinion and belief that listening to the ideas of folks is just as important as sharing his own ideas with them," said Sevugan.

However, the idea may have attracted at least one person that is too young to even vote. "Good luck on your election," writes Stephen I. "I may be 16 and cant vote but I’m straight out of CT so much support."
