Edwards Proposes ‘Global Poverty’ Cabinet Secretary

ABC News’ Raelyn Johnson Reports: Former Sen. John Edwards, D-N.C., announced Thursday that in an effort to fight global poverty he would appoint a new cabinet member responsible for the issue.

"I haven’t come up with a name yet.  It would be a new cabinet member whose responsibly would be America’s efforts to fight global poverty," said Edwards.

The proposal of a new secretary is just one part of Edwards’ fight to take on global poverty, a fight that also includes extending education to millions of children in the developing world, providing healthcare, clean water, and developing the economy and democracy of poor regions.

Edwards held a conference call with reporters right before he was set to deliver what he calls a "major" policy speech at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics at Saint Anselm College.
