ABC News’ Lindsay Hamilton reports: Former Senator and "Law and Order" actor Fred Thompson, R-Tenn., is pondering his presidential ambitions.
Speaking with Fox News’ Chris Wallace, Thompson said he is "giving some thought" to an ’08 run and he is "going to leave the door open."
Thompson said his potential candidacy shouldn’t reflect negatively on his friends in the field, and that he wants to "wait and see how it pans out, see how they do, how it develops."
More than a handful of Republican candidates are already competing and raising money, but Thompson doesn’t think it’s too late to add to the fray and he could delay a decision until summer.
"You know, historically… people have gotten in in October, in that time frame. I don’t think you can wait that long anymore, but you know, times are difference in another respect," he told Wallace. "I think people are somewhat disillusioned. I think a lot of people are cynical out there. I think they’re looking for something different. They’re not necessarily willing to abide by the same rules politically… and I think that they’re going to be open to different things."
