Fox News in New Talks to Host Presidential Debates
ABC’s Jake Whitman Reports: Fox News is trying to land another deal to co-host presidential debates, and Democratic activists are already promising a fight.
Just days after Democrats canceled a Nevada debate co-sponsored by the cable news network, The Associated Press reports that Fox is negotiating with the Congressional Black Caucus Political Education and Leadership Institute to broadcast up to two face-offs by Democratic and Republican presidential candidates.
Online activists were instrumental in forcing the cancellation of the Nevada debate and now they are mobilizing to pressure the Congressional Black Caucus and the institute against entering into an agreement with Fox News.
The group Colorofchange.org has launched an online campaign called "Dancing with the Devil: Fox and the CBC."
In a letter to members, the group urges them to pressure members of the Congressional Black Caucus institute to abandon talks with Fox.
"Fox News has a horrible record of attacking Black people, leaders, and cultural institutions," the letter reads. "For the CBC Institute to partner with an organization like Fox News—given its hostility to Black political interests—would be shameful."
James Rucker, head of Colorofchange.org, tells the AP, "Should they go forward, what we will see is largely what we saw happen in Nevada. They can expect a massive grass-roots backlash."
