McCain: Obama ‘A Very Honest and Fine Person’

ABC News’ Teddy Davis and Matthew Zavala Report: Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., offered praise for a potential Democratic rival for the presidency today amid reports questioning Sen. Barack Obama’s, D-Ill., investment activity.

"I do know that Sen. Obama is a very honest and fine person from everything I’ve known about him," McCain told ABC News when asked about a story in today’s New York Times examining stock purchases made by the Illinois Democrat’s qualified blind trust.

McCain said he hadn’t read the story and couldn’t comment specifically on Obama’s financial dealings. The Republican presidential hopeful was asked by ABC News if the New York Times had raised "legitimate questions" about whether Obama had "blended public and private interests" or whether it was "much ado about nothing."

McCain’s words of praise for Obama’s character come less than a week after Obama came to the Arizona senator’s defense after McCain was criticized by the Democratic National Committee for saying U.S. lives had been "wasted" in Iraq.

McCain made his comments about Obama while speaking at a press conference held by Citizens Against Government Waste in Washington, D.C.
