McCain: Tillman Death a “Travesty”

ABC’s Jake Whitman Reports:  Republican presidential candidate John McCain is criticizing the mistakes made by high-ranking Army officers in the death of Army Ranger Pat Tillman.

The Associated Press reports that during a campaign stop in Dallas last night, the Republican presidential candidate called those mistakes part of an "inexcusable cover-up."

"It was a travesty that the events surrounding his death were covered up, if not distorted." McCain said.

A military report released Monday says nine high-ranking Army officers, including four generals, made critical errors in reporting the friendly fire death. But the review also found there was no criminal wrongdoing in the accidental shooting.

McCain also praised Tillman’s mother, Mary, for challenging the official military report on her son’s death.
