Reid to Bush: No Pardon for Libby
ABC News’ Paul Fidalgo Reports: Moments after the guilty verdict handed to I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby was made public Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., called on President Bush to promise not to let Libby off the hook with a presidential pardon.
"I welcome the jury’s verdict. It’s about time someone in the Bush Administration has been held accountable for the campaign to manipulate intelligence and discredit war critics," said Reid in a press statement. "Lewis Libby has been convicted of perjury, but his trial revealed deeper truths about Vice President Cheney’s role in this sordid affair. Now President Bush must pledge not to pardon Libby for his criminal conduct."
Libby, a former chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney, was convicted on 4 of 5 counts of obstruction of justice, perjury and lying to the FBI in the investigation into the leak of CIA operative Valerie Plame’s identity.

There is no doubt Bush will pardon Libby. He was following the orders of Cheney and will be rewarded for it. This administration rewards loyalty, no matter the offense, and Libby will not be an exception to that.

It will be a surprising moment if Bush doesn’t pardon Libby. This whole Administration is a text book example for politcal corruption.

We could fund another Cheney/Bush Middle East invasion with the Las Vegas odds money on the upcoming presidential pardon for Libby. Everybody knows that Bush will pardon him, the only question is how soon!

Another reason why Reid is an idiot. Lets look at the more than 100+ individuals his hero President Clinton Pardoned. These were individuals who had committed very serious crimes, and then later became friends to the Clitons.

If Bush pardons Libby, he should be impeached.

Impeach Bush? For what? Clinton is the President who Lied Under Oath to a Grand Jury. Not Bush.

Libby should be pardoned, he was a scape-goat for the corruption that has occured in this administration. It shouldn’t be him found guilty, but the person responsible, Mr. Cheney.

Libby was not the leaker and Plame wasn’t a covert agent. Her name was leaked accidentally by Richard Armitage, an assistant to Colin Powell and no fan of the Iraq policy, and Fitzgerald knew it early in the investigation, but proceeded on anyway. Bush should pardon Libby because he supposedly committed perjury in an investigation where no crime was ever found. This whole prosecution is a joke.

Cheney should and will ensure that Scoot get the pardon he deserves. After all he did a remarkable job for the country writing the Colin Powel UN speech if nothing else this deserves Cheney’s pardon. Help this patriot who stands for everything us republicans stand for.

“Libby was not the leaker and Plame wasn’t a covert agent.”
and I just got an e-mail saying I won a lottery.

Do you mean the Colin Powell UN speech that Colin himself says was full of errors and was a set-up job by the VP? Powell disavowed this speech….If Libby wrote it, it’s even further proof that this administration put dogma over facts. Read Powell’s biography, Van….
Sure, Clinton got a BJ from an intern, but Bush/Cheney spent $750B of taxpayer money ‘liberating’ Iraq. Let me remind you that the criminal, Osama, is STILL not in jail. LIke someone said, it’s like there was a bank robbery in El Paso so we invaded Mexico….

During the Nixon administration there was a plaque in the office of one of his henchmen. I believe it read, “grab them by the “family jewels” (I cleaned it up) and their hearts and minds will follow.”
My Dear Ms. Pelosi, what are you waiting for?

What a bunch of BS! Bush has just totally flipped off the system set up by our founding fathers. Why have a judicial system when a person can just say, “Naaa not him.” This is so discouraging. I am not surprised though. Bush is like a little spoiled kid who always gets his way. Thank God that he will be gone for good after this term. It is too bad that the Democrats and Gore did not have the backbone to “go the course” and fight Bush when he stole the Presidential election from the start. Maybe then this mess with the Middle East would not have occurred.

It is not up to Bush to pardon Libby. A jury of your peers found him guilty. That is the way the judicial system is set up. His lawyers had their chance to make their case. They failed. The President should not have the power to override the will of the people. THEY FOUND HIM GUILTY… end of story.

It is of course well within the rights of this administration to pardon any criminal. That said however, they should have had the decency and the common sense to see that they were too close to this subject (Nixon anyone?). They simply appear to be rewarding someone who lied for them to cover up the truth. They are known for being dismissive of the rule of law when it suites them. With this pardon, Libby and everything he knows will be forever out of reach. Exactly as they intended from the beginning I’m sure.

This really is a case of the President Who Cried Wolf. Claiming he was going to root out the bad guys. Well, now we know what he really thinks. To see what I mean, WATCH the timeline here: http://theointment.com/?m=20070703. Not sure if it’s funny or sad.
Enjoy,
