Rove: U.S. Attorney Firings Were a Mixture of Policy and Personnel

ABC News’ Jon Garcia Reports: Speaking to journalism students this afternoon at Troy University in Alabama, White House adviser Karl Rove discussed the recent firing of eight Clinton-era U.S. Attorneys as a decision made on the basis of policy and personnel.

Rove said the Bush administration has replaced 128 U.S. Attorneys over the last six years and referenced 123 U.S. Attorneys Clinton replaced during his time in office, including the 93 who were fired at the beginning of his administration.  Rove said he wondered why the fingers pointing at Gonzales didn’t have the same reaction during the Clinton administration.

Rove asked the American people to look fairly at a situation he described as "a lot of politics."

"Congress has a right to play around with and they’re going to do it," Rove said, "I just ask the american people and ask Congress to look fairly and carefully at whats being said and done now."

Rove’s remarks at Troy University including his full response to the U.S. Attorneys controversy can be downloaded HERE.

Rove, Cheney, Bush and their globalist corporate masters have been illegally and immorally playing politics with our American lives for well over the 6 horrendous years they have stolen office. They have destroyed our Constitution, our economy, our military, our familys, our freedoms, our rights, our values, and our reputation, dignity and standing in the world community of sovereign nations. They are despicable, greedy unconscionable deliberate tyrants and base traitors against America. Justice demands that they be dealt with accordingly.

Funny coming from a guy who, if we looked at fairly, would be behind bars until the rest of his hair falls out.

The difference Mr. Rove is that you wanted to punish US Attorney’s for not abusing the justice system for Repubs’ political gain. That’s a no-no.

Where is the outrage! This is unprecedented! Oh yeah, the Clintons had all 93 US attorneys fired in 1993, some who were in the middle of investigations of the president and first lady. The outrage should be focused on the media who are not doing their job at fairly portraying the story.

The firing of the US Attys is vintage Rove who used the same tactic with Texas AG’s who were fired unless they drummed up scandals against the Dems.
What we need to look into is what the not fired 80 odd US Attys did prior to the last election.

This administration is one of the most corrupt in U.S. history – certainly capable of giving U.S;. Grant or Warren G. Harding a run for their money. However, this is merely just a distraction. Let’s agree that there is corruption and that those most guilty will get away with it. When certain members of this administration meet their maker and have to answer for their actions by a one way trip to hell, it will be because of involving us in an immoral war, ignoring real human needs both at home and abroad. This country needs statesmen, unfortunately we only have politicians. Bush may be concerned about his legacy, the Republican party may be worried about regaining their power, and individuals within the administration may be simultaneously trying to line up book deals while avoiding criminal charges, but I don’t think history (or the creator) will give these guys a very good grade. Pride goeth before a fall (and the first shall be last). To quote George McGovern : “Come Home America.”

The difference between Clintons firings and Bush’s is clear to anyone paying attention. In the past, it didn’t make sense to fire based on politics because the new appointee had to be confirmed by Congress.
A few years ago, Rove and GOP insidiously reworded a provision in the Patriot Act that would bypass congressional approval for newly appointed US attorneys..
This provision was originally only supposed to be used in the event of a catastrophic attack on the US.
The GOP rubber-stamped this and other “improvements” in the Patriot Act, betting they would have a majority for a long time and their tyrannical manipulations in the name of National Security would not soon be exposed.
