Warner: Disagree with Pace on Gays
Email.ABC’s Jonathan Karl Reports: In a statement released by his Senate office, Republican John Warner took issue with Peter Pace’s statements on homosexuality.
"I respectfully, but strongly disagree with the chairman’s view that homosexual is immoral," Warner said.
The statement goes on to say that Warner will defer stating his opinion on the "Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell" policy until after the Senate Armed Services Committee holds hearings on the issue. That’s an interesting statement because, as of now, the Senate Armed Services Committee has no hearings scheduled on the issue.
Warner is a member and former chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee. He is also the former Secretary of the Navy.

This is where the problem lies in this country today. Not enough people have a moral compass and too many believe nothing is immoral. I applaud Gen. Pace and say shame on these members of congress and our society who put him down for his beliefs and statement. Let Sen. Warner state his beliefs in his own context and let his constituents judge whether they feel the same way enough to reelect him.

There was a time, not too long ago, when blacks weren’t allowed to serve in the military. Arguments for why this was the morally right thing to do were based on notions of objectivity as well (e.g. whites were a superior race). Of course, all that turned out to be hogwash and the “enlightened” view resulted in a racially integrated military. How is the case of gays any different? Why is supporting integration of gays in the military not the objectively moral thing to do? Why don’t those that argue for such integration have their moral compass pointing in all the right ways, while yours is askew (much like those that argued against blacks in the military)?

The truth is that being homosexual is not a violation of the Uniform code of Military Conduct (UCMJ) and never has been. However, sodomy is both a violation of the UCMJ and most law. A practicing homosexual actually will end up getting booted out, probably by Courts Martial.
As an Army Commander, I’ve had homosexuals serve in my unit and they were not punished as long as they were not ‘practicing’. They served out their enlistment both honorably and proudly without fear of reprisal. this has always been a Commander’s option.

I applaud General Pace, for
saying what he believe. Homosexual
is not immoral, but homosexual act is immoral. It’s about time someone stand up for his belief.
