Always double down on Aces and Eights
On the day he was previously scheduled to officially declare his presidential candidacy, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., is tomorrow giving a major speech about Iraq at Virginia Military Institute.

Can Mitt Romney Win Conservatives Back?
No wonder Sen. McCain’s campaign is stumbling badly: he’s no longer viewed as a forward-thinking reformer because of his unpopular positions on issues; he’s cozied up to reactionary right-wingers (Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell) whom he formerly shunned for their votes; he’s unhesitatingly supported an insupportable war; and, the coup-de-grace, he tells the American public that they’re wrong by not fully supporting the President and his “surge” in Iraq. And he wonders why he’s slipping in the polls and becoming a political liability? Does he really think that this series of speeches will help reestablish him as a serious candidate, or is this nothing more than a last-gasp attempt at publicity for a faltering campaign?

With his Dukakis/helmet comments concerning the Baghdad marketplace, does McCain remain at all credible on Iraq matters? I, for one, will find it hard to take at face value anything he says. His comments about his visit proved him to be either delusional or calculating (and anything but “straight talking”). His calling card was his credibility, he has ceded his credibility, he is done as a presidential contender.

Well his base, if he has one, is the hawks. Social conservatives are only lukewarm on him, and he turned off independent voters a long time ago. Who else does he have, really?

I think there should be age limits on who can run for president. I mean, seriously. Listening to John Mccain yelling about gays, abortion and how great the surge is. Does this country really need George Bush the third “running” it?

Though I have disagreed with Senator McCain’s policy ideas for quite a while, there was a time when I nonetheless had a deep respect for him and the way in which he took stands on important issues. Now, all I can say is, “Oh how the mighty have fallen.”
