Cheney and Reid Take Swings
ABC News’ Jennifer Duck Reports: Vice President Dick Cheney delivered biting criticism Tuesday of statements made by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., concerning the funding legislation that includes a provision for a withdrawal of troops from Iraq. Speaking with reporters in a rare appearance on Capitol Hill, the Vice President called Reid’s words "unfortunate", "uninformed", and "misleading".
Following another veto threat from President Bush Monday, Reid had said that the provisions in the supplemental funding bill are intended to transition the military "away from policing a civil war," and claimed that Bush was in a "state of denial." Reid has taken political fire over the past few days over comments made last Thursday when he said "I believe. . .that this war is lost." While he did not repeat the claim Monday, he did say, "The failure has been political. It has been policy. It has been presidential."
Cheney said of Reid’s remarks, ". . .in less than six months time, Senator Reid has gone from pledging full funding for the military, then full funding with conditions, and then a cutoff of funding. Three positions in five months on the most important foreign policy question facing the nation and our troops."
"Maybe it’s a political calculation," added Cheney. "Some Democratic leaders seem to believe that blind opposition to the new strategy in Iraq is good politics. Senator Reid himself has said that the war in Iraq will bring his party more seats in the next election. It is cynical to declare that the war is lost because you believe it gives you political advantage."
Reid responded to Cheney’s critique saying, "once again the President sends his attack dog," and reasserted that the President is in a state of denial concerning the war.
Reid defended the supplemental, calling it a good piece of legislation. "We believe troops should get every penny they need and we’re putting our money where our mouth is," he said, further emphasizing the additional $4 billion in the bill that the President did not request.
When asked to respond to Cheney’s criticism, Reid said, "I’m not getting into a name calling match with someone who has a 9 percent approval rating."
Cheney’s day is proving to be an eventful one, adding to his Capitol Hill appearance a visit to the hospital to examine a blood clot in his leg, while also being the target of a quixotic effort to impeach him being launched by Rep. Dennis Kucinich, D-Ohio, a dark horse presidential candidate.

I would say that Cheney was “uninformed” and “misleading” when he sold Bush on this war. It is the American People who are in the “unfortunate” position of trying to bail out of the fiasco.

Usually the exact opposite of what Cheney says tends to be the truth.

Cheney hits hard and home. Reid should be ashamed of himself for claiming defeat. Reid is misleading and demoralizing the men and women in uniform and on the ground in the war zones. Cheney needs to hit even harder.

Cheney has lied throughout the last 7 years…he has no credibility left…the sad thing is, he still thinks anybody is listening to what he has to say…

It would be interesting to see just how much money Cheney has made on this war. What other reason would he have to want to keep it going indefinitely unless he is just completely mad. However, madness isn’t out of the question for Cheney and his boss when you listen to some of their rantings that they try to pass on as reasoning to the American people. Anyone with any intellegence at all can see through the rantings and see both of them for what they truly are, two miserable men who would rather see more Americans and Iraqis die rather than admit they made a horrible mistake.

When Reid became the big Democrat whip, it was a proud moment for Nevada. It is now time to be ashamed of being from the same State.

Recall Reid – we in NV are tired of this joke.
the bumper stickers are being bought, next is the petition and then the Grey Davis treatment.

Best wishes for Cheney on his health problems, hope that he is ok.
But reality seems to indicate that he has a bigger clot in his head that has formed some kind of Brain Cloud. The clot doesn’t let TRUTH in and the cloud muddles everything else up.
Who is more important Iraq or our troops? The timetable is ALSO for our soldiers, THEY need to know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel; THAT is really supporting the troops.
Maybe the VP is willing to accept 80-100 combat deaths, and twice as many injured, per month for an unlimited time, but are the rest of us? The polls say NO.
And for What, really?

Cheney is an out-of-control authoritarian who believes in the limitless power of the presidency, which he controls from behind the scenes. He is a menace to the Republic and to all democratic values. He should be impeached immediately. Kucinich is not ‘quixotic’; he is reasonable. Those who persist in damaging the credibility of our democracy will lose in the end. They are going down NOW.
