Giuliani: Dems Would Put Nation on Defense

ABC’s Jake Whitman Reports:  Republican Presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani says if a Democrat is elected in 2008, the country will be put on defense in the war on terror.

The former New York Mayor wrapped up a day of campaigning in New Hampshire with a speech at the Rockingham County GOP Lincoln Day dinner last night.

"If one of them gets elected, it sounds to me like we’re going on the defense," he said. "We’ve got a timetable for withdrawal from Iraq. We’re going to wave the white flag there. We’re going to try to cut back on the Patriot Act. We’re going to cut back on electronic surveillance. We’re going to cut back on interrogation. We’re going to cut back, cut back, cut back, and we’ll be back in our pre-September 11 mentality of being on defense."

Giuliani told the crowd he believes the United States will eventually
win the war on terror, regardless of which party wins the White House,
but went on to say that Republicans will do a better job of keeping the
country safe.

"The question is going to be, how long does it take [to win that war] and how many losses will we have along the way. And I truly believe that, if we go back on defense for a period of time, we’re going to ultimately have more losses and it’s going to go on much longer," the former mayor said.

The Democrats will send the US back to pre- 9/11 days. It will once again be vulnerable to attacks on US soil. The Democrats have already begun to go down that path by their defeatist claims and attitudes. Few of the Democrats (if any) have the will required to keep the US strong and free.

The Republican argument seems to be that the only way we can “win” this “long term war” is by voting in nothing but Republicans forever. That argument seems a bit self-serving to me. The same level of danger existed during the Cold War and it didn’t seem that we were less safe under Democrats in those days. I am tired of the Republicans using this holier than thou attitude to attack the Democrats…it is unAmerican and simply wrong.

Giuliani’s remark confirms what I have thought for a long time. This administration, and most Republican politicians, act as though their playing a game with the war in Iraq. Mr. Giuliani, you had better wake up. We are not playing a football game, this administration is sending young Americans off to a place they should not have been in the first place to be maimed or to die. Bet you wouldn’t talk so brave if one of your kids was going to Iraq, would you? Kiss the presidency good-bye Mr. G. The American people are fed up with war mongers.

Well put, Dirik Lolkus. To Kottaras: You can’t be “strong” if you’re broke, which we will be if you don’t stop running deficits. And you can’t be “free” if you are a slave to the American government, which people are without even realizing it. If you look at the aggregate amount of taxes that you pay and combine that with the inflation that eats up your wages, you probably spend close to 1/2 the year working for the federal government. Vote Ron Paul for a candidate who will actually keep us strong, but keep us smart and free at the same time! Ron Paul 2008!

Somewhere along the way I missed the designation that the war was a Republican war. Those that support the Bush/Cheney plan, make any American that has a differing opinion, feel as though they are Unamerican for not supporting their plan. I look around and see a War on just about everything the government cannot control, we have a war on terror, on drugs, poverity, crime. And none of them are being won. Not saying these things should be allowed to flourish, but when does the wars stop. When one has the, Must Win, frame of mind, he can be more dangerous than the War he is fighting. Kind a good thing the Dem’s don’t agree to allow the administration to run free and unchallenged. We must remember that several government agencies, had bits and pieces of the 911 puzzle, but becaused the heads of these agencies were unchallenged, bound to hold onto their piece of the puzzle and not let others know he’s got it, no one, nowhere, in this country could put that puzzle together. And that is what lead to the 911 tragady. So I really don’t see where Dem’s or Repub’s or visa versa are stornger than the other.
