Clinton Defends Iraq Vote, Iowa Strategy
ABC News’ Eloise Harper Reports: Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., campaigning in Mason City, Iowa on Friday, defended her controversial vote against the latest Iraq war funding bill which did not include a timeline for troop withdrawal.
"I voted against it. I knew it was going to pass overwhelmingly," said Clinton. "I think it is important for someone like me who has been a strong supporter of the military — the best thing we can do right now is get them out of the middle of this sectarian war in Iraq."
"The president has not listened to anybody," said Clinton, adding that President Bush "hasn’t listened to the Congress, he didn’t listen to the Iraq Study Group, and he hasn’t listened to the American people,"
"I think the message in the last election was absolutely clear," she said.
This stop at the North Iowa Area Community College also comes only two days after a campaign memo recommending that she not compete in the Iowa caucuses was leaked, and has caused some to wonder about her commitment to campaigning there. The senator took the opportunity to reassure local supporters that she has no intention of skipping this crucial state in the presidential nomination contest.
"It’s great to be back to Iowa," Clinton told the crowd. "I am going to spend so much time in Iowa I’ll be able to caucus for myself."
The former first lady also addressed the role former President Bill Clinton might play in her administration, asserting, "My husband is probably the most popular person in the world right now. . .I think he can be an ambassador around the world."
"I need your help," she said, "We have a great team in Iowa and we are going to make you proud."

Sorry, but I’m a woman and can’t stand Hillary.
She always looks ‘unflattering’ because her true spirit is showing.
We’re sick of “Bill and Hillary” as a couple. Everyone in D.C. and Hollywood knows they’re not really one, so stop pretending. They don’t like each other (they’re both too power hungry). And they think Americans are stupid — and they need to tell us how we should think!
They need to get over themselves.
Go to their remote island and take Bush with them.

I was born on a farm in Iowa 74 years ago and I think the Clintons are great Americans who care about this country and its people and I am especially proud of them because they are devoted parents. I was impressed by the fact that both of them considered the effect a divorce would have on their daughter and decided to stay together during the rough times. All marriages hit hard times. Too many leave without trying. During his administration, Bill Clinton enacted laws to clean up our environment. Bush did away with them. Bill Clinton removed the national deficit and put us on a road to recovery as we headed into the New Century. George Bush has put us into deep debt and caused the deaths of many innocent people so he and his pals could make even more money than they already had. Bill Clinton was a wonderful President, and Hillary Clinton will be, too. I don’t understand why people can’t see that. I don’t understand why people can’t see how the Bush regime has led this country down a slippery slope to possible ruin. We need a strong person to lead us out of this mess. I believe Hillary Clinton is that person! She understands that “It Takes A Village” and if we all pull together under a strong leader, we can save the soul of America, the Beautiful!
