Dem ’08ers Want High Marks from Teachers

ABC News’ Teddy Davis Reports: Over two days this week, the executive council of the American Federation of Teachers will be hearing from six democratic presidential candidates at the National Labor College in Silver Spring, Md.

Sen. Joe Biden, D-Del., and Sen. Chris Dodd, D-Conn., are participating Tuesday. Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., former Sen. John Edwards, D-N.C., Gov. Bill Richardson, D-N.M., and Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., are participating Wednesday.

AFT members are "clearly" interested in hearing the candidates address "No Child Left Behind," according to someone connected to the AFT.

But the teachers’ union, which also includes health care workers, public employees, and people involved in higher education, are also interested in international affairs and the "what’s your path to victory" question.

This week’s events are part of an on-going ’08 process at the AFT which includes surveying members and leaders, a candidate questionnaire, participation in AFL-CIO forums, and one-on-one meetings with candidates.
