Dodd touts “carbon tax” in new ad

ABC News’ Rick Klein reports: Sen. Christopher Dodd on Thursday is unveiling the third TV ad of his presidential campaign, this time focusing on the environment to differentiate himself in a crowded Democratic field.

With children shown playing with inflatable globes, Dodd, D-Conn., touts his proposal for a "carbon tax" that seeks to curb global warming — a step the other major Democratic candidates have declined to endorse.

"All the Earth’s creatures are threatened by global warming," the voice-over says, as the children’s song "Whole World in His Hands" plays in the background. "One candidate for president is doing something to stop it: Chris Dodd."

The ad, which will run in Iowa and New Hampshire, follows two ads where Dodd sought to portray himself as the strongest anti-war candidate. A Dodd adviser said the campaign decided to put the ad on the environment up Thursday to coincide with President Bush’s announcement of a new climate change initiative.
