Fred Thompson the Blogger

ABC News’ Jennifer Parker Reports: Former Sen. Fred Thompson, R-Tenn., – the will-he-or-won’t-he rumored GOP candidate – has been blogging up a storm.

The writings may offer voters a window into the man his supporters are calling a "southern fried" Ronald Reagan.

The blogs are part of the Law & Order TV star’s ABC Radio commentary program, "The Fred Thompson Report."

In various blogs, Thompson defends the Second Amendment, skewers the French and criticizes left-leaning filmmaker Michael Moore.

In a blog after the mass shooting at Virginia Tech, Thompson blamed the university for having a gun-free school zone policy.

"Communities that recognize and grant Second Amendment rights to responsible adults have a significantly lower incidence of violent crime than those that do not," blogs Thompson. "Civilians use firearms to prevent at least a half million crimes annually."

On the unpopularity of the United States in the world, Thompson cites the French and writes: "eventually, our ostrich-headed allies will realize there’s a World War going on out there and they need to pick a side — the choice being between the forces of civilization and the forces of anarchy."

Thompson also bashes filmmaker Michael Moore who has raised the ire of conservative Republicans with documentaries like "Bowling for Columbine" and "Fahrenheit 9/11". In his latest effort about the American health-care system, Moore films a group of sick Ground Zero workers who go to Cuba in search of affordable health care.

Ranting against what he calls the "myth of Cuban health care", Thompson blogs: "I guarantee even the poorest Americans are getting far better medical services than many Cubans."

Rumors have swirled for months about whether the Law & Order star will throw his hat into the GOP ring. Thompson will not be among the ten announced Republican candidates on Thursday for the first GOP debate in California.

But Thompson will speak the next night to the Lincoln Club of Orange County, an influential conservative group in California, fueling speculation about his political aspirations.

Why doesn’t he just announce? What is he hiding? He should be in tonight’s debate?

Does the nation need a taller, better speaking, farther right, more “presidential” DUBYA?
Acting tries to make one believe that what is not true actually is, much like most politicians. The country asked for a change and is not going to accept a rerun nor a sequel.

The typical reaction of a hate mongering conservative. Make this all about Moore and Cuba.
Sure, Moore is “fat”, and exaggerates the facts at times, and Cuba is run by a dictator, and has many poor, thanks for “educating America” with such important, relevant, life improving information. … BUT, the whole point of the Moore film is about health care in the USA you limp brain moron.
The USA fails to look after its own heros and the first thing a hate mongering conservative does is attack the messenger.
Hey Thompson … grab a clue, tell us how much you revile those US citizens who hate the US so much that they went to Cuba to be treated for their 9/11 inflicted illness rather than patriotically shut their traitorous mouths and die for your neo con glory.
Wake me when a Republican makes a point that actually means anything to the life of an average citizen.
