General Discontent

In an act of defiance perhaps not seen since President Truman fired Gen. Douglas MacArthur, today the anti-war veterans group VoteVets.org,  which has been influential with Capitol Hill Democrats, is launching a half-million-dollar TV ad campaign featuring Maj Gen John Batiste (Ret.), former commanding general of the first infantry division in Iraq.

ap bush batiste 070509 blog General Discontent

The ad begins with a clip President George W. Bush saying "I have always said that I will listen to the requests of our commanders on the ground."

Batiste then appears, saying, "Mr. President, you did not listen. You continue to pursue a failed strategy that is breaking our great Army and Marine Corps. I left the Army in protest in order to speak out. Mr. President, you have placed our nation in peril. Our only hope is that Congress will act now to protect our fighting men and women."

The ads are targeted at Republican members of Congress seen to be wavering in their support for the war. Those targeted include GOP Senators Susan Collins (Maine), John Sununu (NH), John Warner (Virginia), and Norm Coleman (Minnesota), and GOP Representatives Mary Bono (Calif.), Phil English (Penn.), Randy Kuhl (NY), Jim Walsh (NY), Jo Ann Emerson (Missouri), Tim Johnson (Illinois), Mike Rogers (Michigan), Fred Upton (Michigan), and Mike Castle (Del.)

The ads conclude with Batiste saying, depending on the congressperson targeted, "Senator Collins, protect America, not George Bush."

Major General Paul Eaton (Ret.) and Gen. Wesley Clark (Ret.) will also appear in ads.

Meanwhile, at the VFW headquarters in DC later today, according to the ARMY TIMES, an "Appeal for Courage" petition signed by 2,700 current and former service members supporting continued U.S. combat operations in Iraq will be given to House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, and Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-SC.

"The petition was organized by two U.S. service members serving in Iraq, Navy Lt. Jason Nichols, serving in Baghdad, and Minnesota National Guard Staff Sgt. David Thul, who is conducting convoy operations in Iraq with the 34th Infantry Division," the newspaper reports.

What do you think?

It must be very frustrating for the Generals to know that, even tho they are doing the right thing by speaking out, they will be labeled as traitors for doing so. God bless them and help keep them strong in their fight to correct this deadly mistake by the Bushes

I agree with their statement: “Mr. President, you have placed our nation in peril. Our only hope is that Congress will act now to protect our fighting men and women.”
This administration “went to war with the Army we had” (per Rumsfeld) by choice and without the body armor and armored humvees to protect our troops. They understaffed the troop force and lost control of the occupation of Iraq — causing the current civil war and the increased murder of both Iraqi’s and our troops. They went into Iraq without NATO and without significant support from any allies except Great Britain, and even Great Britain is leaving now — further endangering our troops.
The issues of how t U.S. leaves Iraq are complex and it can’t be done all at once — but it is clear this administration has no credibility in how to do it.
Congress needs to act to stop this incompetency and get control of the effort!

If a commander didn’t agree with Bush, he was relieved of his command, just like every other position in Bush’s administration.
If the President actually listened, he would have heard Gen. Petraeus say Iraq will not be won with military force.

Bush is without a doubt the biggest threat to the US. He is destroying our armed forces and has sent countless young men and women to their death. It will take years to recover from the damage Bush has caused. I count the days until Bush is no longer president.

I believe that those retired Generals that are opposing the President of the United States should be tried for Treason. They all had to have taken the oath to support the Commander in Chief and with that alone, as military commanders, they should be following orders, and not questioning them. These Generals are a bunch of phonies and never should have been promoted to that rank. What kind of mentorship are they portraying to our young soldiers serving our country today? Cowardship is not we convey to our soldiers and that is exactly what these Generals are conveying. I say, charge them with insorbordination and slander and lock them. Strip them off their titles that they retired with and make examples of their foolishness. We need to continue the fight against terrorism and that is what we are fighting over there in Iraq and Afghanistan. I support our President and the Generals on the ground at harms way in their decision to increase the number of troops to get the job done.

Listen up JUST STOP ALL FUNDING. That’s what ended the Vietnam war, and that’s what it will take to end this one real quick , and bring the troops home. Let the troops run out of bullets, and fuel for the jets for air support. Then any general, commander or officer who would send troops into combat without ammo, or fuel for air support should be court martialed, and jailed. Let the troops run out of rations, then they can just stay on base and eat base cooked food, instead of canned rations while out on patrol. They gotta eat some time.

I served in Iraq on a Combat Brigade Command Staff.Gen Batiste was the Division Commander and I briefed him on many occasions. He always struck me as a straight shooter but all other other times he has blamed Rumsfeld not Bush.I still beleive it was Rumsfeld who tied the Commanders hands.

Posted by: Bruce Bilbrey | May 9, 2007, 11:29 am 11:29 am

Gen. Batiste is simply stating what by now should be obvious to even the most partisan observer: this administration has made an absolute mess of Iraq by placing our toops in the middle of a civil war, and is now desperately flailing about, hoping beyond hope that the “surge” will stabilize Iraq enough to allow US troops to draw down in sufficient numbers or to leave entirely. Despite Gen. Batiste’s ads, many Repubs still will want to give the “surge” time to work, at least until September. If there’s been no progress by that time, those Repubs will desert the President like rats deserting a sinking ship, and not without reason.

George W. Bush is by far the most incompetent President to hold the office in the last 100 years. Give me a president with “brains” over a “true believer” any day.
The generals who are speaking out are the true American heroes. They have the expertise to know whether or not we are following a failed policy. This President and his administration don’t have a clue about how to handle the mess in Iraq. Ultimately, it’s the soldiers who never seem to be able to stay home for very long that I feel for.
The remainder of Bush’s term can’t go by fast enough. Let’s just hope the congress and the next president can quickly correct the mess we’re in.

Im actually quite disgusted by the last persons comments. Why should the troops suffer to change the minds of the people who put them there .. .they are just doing their jobs. It aggrivates the crap out of me that this actually sounds like a good idea to anybody anymore. This is not the seventies and this is not Vietnam!!!! the world has changed so much and the old rules to anything just dont apply anymore. I pray that this war will end soon and I encourage anyone to go to the right people and keep pushing for an end to this but making the troops suffer is not the answer! Its because of them that we are able to keep these rights that we are entitled to.

Well all this moaning about Bush is fine, but what about the fact that Congress is inhabiited by a bunch of empty suity and empty skirts? Yes, Bush screwed things up royally but what alternative is Congress really offering? They can’t even overide the Pres’s veto. Their heart is unfortunately not into ending the war really either.

This is what happens when the Peter Principle comes into play: the stupid are advanced to positions of power they should not hold.
Bush lied to or otherwise misled Congress; or, he was simply misinformed when he spoke about the Iraqi WMD situation. This is either malice or stupidity; either way, there’s cause for impeachment.
If Clinton could face trial over something like The Blue Dress, then certainly Bush should as well. I hate to be trite, but when Clinton lied about Monica, nobody died.
So, Mr. President, how many more must pay the last full measure of loyalty until you realise your mistakes?

One poster here has suggested the Generals should be tried for treason for not blindly following the commander in chief. I believe my recollection is correct when I say that at the Nuremberg trials at the end of World of World War Two blind obedience to the Fuhrer and to the system was not received as a valid defense for the atrocities committed.
It is ludicrous to suggest that in our ‘democracy’ that we (ant that means ANY of our citizens) should just blindly follow the president. Partly, it is that kind of mentality that has us in the mess we are in. It is truly unpatriotic that someone one would suggest that this is what America is about. Do we really believe in democracy??

We need a general like General Patton to send to Iraq with about 250,000 ground troops plus support personnel. These liberal generals think they can appease Islam by bringing our troops home but it will only embolden these Islamofascists to strike us again at home. Only this time it won’t be just two buildings but an entire city lying in ruins. If Patton were in charge of Iraq, the few remaining Muslims left alive would not only be appeased, they would be worshiping Jesus too. Ha ha ha

“I think Bush is the worst President in my lifetime and I will be 60 May 10th”
It’s not entirely fair to blame Bush. We elected him in two general elections. Instead of promoting critical journalism and independent media, we feed ourselves with schills who pass-on misinformation from government and corporations, for a handsome profit. Instead of making sure the electorate is well-educated and understands how democracy works, we waste our precious attention with star-worship, sport entertainment, and television as a life-form of its own.
If our country is to rebound, be it right or left, changes in the abovementioned ills will mark the recovery. Otherwise, I see further erosion of our society, further divisions, and such increasing animosity as to spark a second civil war.

The heart, spirit and freedom that once defined this great country have been consumed by the lies and fear spread by the White House.
This Fourth of July, I will celebrate John Batsite, Paul Eaton and Wesley Clark. American Heros who are standing up for the troops. Even in a time of national shame there are heros that represent what is right.
There still is a desire for “Truth, Justice and the American Way”. It is up to each of us to restore pride America.

I would hope that none of us ever forget the 11th of September and how many civilian lives that were taken. Also, remember that our military strength was decreased in the prior years leading up to the attacks on our country.
As Gen. Abizaid has said, “We may not have the patience but this is a generational war.” They really are out to get US.
If we do not take care of this matter now we will get attacked again and we may anyway. This is not a situation that Americans and the military are accustomed to.

A constitutional amendment is needed to take the pressure off the President for armed conflicts. All armed engagements should require the Congressional approval within 30 days and continual authorization every 6 months. This would be final. The President would not have the power of veto. The President is the chief military officer. Armed conflicts should only be controlled by the Congress.

I’m appalled at the comments of insubordination just because some Generals, who BTW, actually know something about military operations, have the fortitude to go against policies that they know in their hearts are wrong.
KUDOS to all the Generals, all other Commanders and troops who have spoken out against this failed policy in Iraq.
My son is now serving in Korea. His next assignment will bring him back to his homestate, but the price will be rotation to Iraq. Bush owes it to my son, my step son serving in the Air Force, my step daughter’s fiance serving in the Marines and all their brothers and sisters to get them out of the middle of Iraq’s civil war. Congress should defund this war and tell Bush and the Iraqi govt. our troops will no longer be pawns in their little game.
IF, and that’s IF, we have to fight them on our own soil, I want our troops here to defend our country, as our founding fathers intended for them to do. If I have to fight beside them, I’m ready.
Bring our troops home now.
I’m disgusted with all this justification for staying in Iraq.
And while we’re at it, get them out of Afghanistan too. Whatever happened to airpower?

Some of you posted messages acting like rabid dogs. Nothing that anyone of us say here or anywhere else is going to change a thing… except of course, election day! So many people quick to criticize every fabric of our government, but how many of you vote? That is the only way to make change in this country. For me, I don’t agree or disagree with the Iraq war. Much like the Vietnam War, this too will pass. Lost in the jubilation of it ending, will be the thousands of forgotton men and woman who died… maybe in vain, or maybe not. I look at the war a little like this. We spend billions per day to fight and fund this war, but the community I live in cannot afford to put an adequate number of police officers on our streets to the escalating crime rate. We except violence on our own soil, yet dismiss it at home. I’m a true-blue American and feel we live in one of the best places on earth. That said, we also live in the most mixed up country when it comes to these priorities.

Posted by: Mark | May 9, 2007, 12:29 pm 12:29 pm

If the president is leading the country into peril it is the duty and moral obligation of the commanders in the military to do everything in their power to protect this country, NOT a particular political party. If only General Colin Powell had done the same back in 2003, we would not be in this mess.

Posted by: Tracy | May 9, 2007, 12:31 pm 12:31 pm

It is evident that some of the posters have bought into the post-9/11 propoganda that brought us into this war in the first place. Mind you, we are NOT in Iraq as a result of having been attacked by terrorists on 9/11/01. Why is it that the majority of the hijackers were Saudi, Bin Laden is in Afganistan, but we are blowing holes into Iraq? The lunacy of this policy has nothing to do with terrorism, Al Queda, or a threat against the US from Iraq. We are far more an enemy of Iraq now than we ever have been in history. Think critically for yourself, instead of buying into the president’s m.o. of feeding just enough (mostly erroneous) information to citizens to create the group think necessary to move forward with his agenda.

ENOUGH! IS ENOUGH!
I think it is time now for the Congress of the United States to tell the solders, and generals that they are no longer taking order from George Bush, or Dick Cheney.
That henceforth their order come from the Congress of the United States, and the speaker of the house Nancy Pelosi. And Further, that the Congress of the United States, and speaker of the house will grant amnesty to any solders ignoring administration orders.
If congress does not want to assume command of the military. Then they should inform the military that any solder that lays down his arms, and returns home will be grated amnesty. Along with any solders that help them return home.
If Congress does not get our solders out of there soon. They are just going to quit. And leave on there own very soon. Mark my words!

Food for thought: I have it on pretty good authority that the troops are the reason Rumsfeld is gone.

I will be leaving again soon and am proud to serve my country and SEE THE PROGRESS first hand and until you have, I think people need to keep their mouths shut, we have done the right thing there. The Iraqi people are entitled to the same freedoms we have here and there will be bloodshed just as there was many many years ago here. The media is so full of crap sometimes.

“They all had to have taken the oath to support the Commander in Chief and with that alone, as military commanders, they should be following orders, and not questioning them.”
Officers do NOT take an oath to support the Commander in Chief. We take an oath to protect the Constitution of United States.
These retired officers have EVERY right as Americans to speak out and voice their opinions.

As in any military situation, commanders are allowed to make decisions based on the facts at hand and the SITREP being provided. Our commanders on the lines are not being allowed to make those timely decisions, as individuals in Washington are taking those decisions away from them. Name one person in Bush’s administration with actual battle field experience! I don’t think that anyone in his staff is remotely qualified to make those difficult decisions, which ultimately result in the death of our brave soldiers, simply following orders. I was a veteran of 10 years in the service, and the motto clearly states, “Lead, Follow or get the hell out of the way”. Kudo’s to our brave military soldiers who are simply following orders. If Bush want’s to make the decisions, then put him into a Forward Observer (FO) Capacity, and then let’s see how long he wants to stay in the line of fire.

If our own Congress cannot support our troops, by not letting the pentagon fight the war the way it should be fought, and if the people cannot unite behind the troops either, and if we’re going to announce to the world that we aren’t going to give our troops what they need, then we shouldnt tie their hands and keep expecting them to do their job. Might as well just admit defeat and bring them home. No use having anymore brothers, sisters, mothers and fathers dying for no reason. I can see the Muslims rioting in delight already. I can see the NY Times announcing our withdrawal, ABC will probably rejoice as well. We might as well wait until the enemy comes to us. Hopefully the democrats and liberals will allow us to fight the enemy when they get to the USA.
Maybe we need a civil war here in the USA. God help us,
God have mercy on us,
God Bless the USA.

Did the general ever state the exact thing that Bush didn’t listen about? From my recollections, the military wasn’t questioning going to war, but were questioning the number of troops required. Most ‘old school’ commanders were asking for 300,000 – 400,000 troops for occupation. That’s what they were frustrated about. The commanders know that they don’t make decisions about who to attack, they just want the resources to do it the way they think it should be done. Rumsfeld botched it by trying to limit the amount of forces committed. When they realized the error, politically they couldn’t insert another 200k worth of troops. Now we have the ‘surge’ which still disregards the initial assessment of many commanders.

I firmly believe that if Bush (The Decider) had decided to keep our troops in Afghanistan with a blind focus on hunting down Bin Laden and Mullah Omar until they were captured or killed, this whole country would have been solidly behind the Administration. For some horrible reason, Cheney, Rummy and their puppet, The Decider, felt the need to go into Iraq against the better judgement of those in the know. We all know what this has led to. The spin the administration puts on it is just outright false. For example:
Spin: We don’t support the troops because we are against the war.
Fact: We support the troops far more than Bush because we want them out of harm’s way.
Spin: If we pull out now, those who have been injured or killed will have done so in vain.
Fact: For as long as this war lasts, our troops will be killed or injured in vain because this conflict will not be settled by military action.
Spin: Fight them there or fight them on our shores.
Fact: Our being there has not prevented them from doing more damage here.
Spin: The War on Terror.
Fact: How does the administration reason that their fighting terror by starting a war in a country that had nothing to do with al Queda..??
Spin: You’re either for us or against us.
Fact: Loyalty to the Bush administration has no relevance in this matter.
Spin: Speaking out against the war is appeasing the enemy.
Fact: Speaking out against the war does not mean wanting to surrender, does not mean we are siding with al Queda or encouraging them. It’s simply the truth.
Undeniable Fact: The Bush administration is the worst thing to ever happen to our wonderful country.

Funny how people commend any armed forces member that disagrees with the administration. Yet if you agree your considered a follower. Just because you disagree doesn’t make your comment any more intelligent. The president has acknowledged there have been mistakes. War isn’t easy mistakes are made all of the time. Why not give them the support of the entire nation for a change and let them end this thing once and for all?

Those that promote the war should go. Oh they won’t because they are cowards. Too much too lose. They just like to see others get crippled.

I think it is time for the Generals to step-up. And ask speaker Nancy Pelosi, and the Congress Of the United States to assume full command of the military. To bring our solders home. Before the solders simply lay down their arms, and walk away on their own.
It is all ready happening. Solders are just walking away. And the highest percentage ever are committing suicide. Time is up. Act now! It already too late.

You people (Bush Haters) on here are a TRIP!!!!! So let’s say President Bush gives the orders to invade a country and puts two 4 star Generals in charge of the combat operations. Over time, General #1 says, “Hey Mr. President, I agree with how we are running operations over here”. Then, General #2 says, “Hey Mr. President, I DO NOT agree with how we are running operations over here”. So what’s the President (COMMANDER IN CHIEF, MIND YOU) to do? He either continues his operations because he thinks it’s the right thing to do, or he doesnt. Look people, soldiers from the top down, always gripe and complain. If Presidents of past, and present, reacted to every complaint that goes on during war AND peace times, NOTHING WOULD EVER GET ACCOMPLISHED!!!!!!! So, shut up and stop griping and complaining and get behind your troops out in the field to help them accomplish the mission.

I think this has been a long time coming. The generals knew for a while that Iraq was a wrong cause and a lost cause but dare not speak up while they were on active duty. That would be like one of us telling our boss he doesn’t know what he is doing. Are any of us that brave if we want to keep our jobs? I don’t think so. I’m glad the generals are free to speak their mind now. Bush has been wrong all along with his Iraq “policy” if that’s what you want to call his mess. Hurrah for our generals!

Tapper responds to your comments!
“Did the general ever state the exact thing that Bush didn’t listen about?” asks Jason. “From my recollections, the military wasn’t questioning going to war, but were questioning the number of troops required.”
No, not yet…I have a call into Maj. Gen. Batiste to ask what exactly he’s referring to. Will let you know.
“I will be leaving again soon” for Iraq, writes Cheryl main, “and am proud to serve my country and SEE THE PROGRESS first hand and until you have, I think people need to keep their mouths shut, we have done the right thing there. The Iraqi people are entitled to the same freedoms we have here and there will be bloodshed just as there was many many years ago here. The media is so full of crap sometimes.”
Thanks for your service and best of luck. Not really sure what you’re taking issue with — was reporting the thoughts of a retired Major General who was commander of the 1st infantry in Iraq. Not my own thoughts — his. But God speed.
“You can’t handle the truth” writes: “I think it is time now for the Congress of the United States to tell the solders, and generals that they are no longer taking order from George Bush, or Dick Cheney. That henceforth their order come from the Congress of the United States, and the speaker of the house Nancy Pelosi.”
I’m not sure if you’re being serious. But that’s kind of against the constitution.
“Listen up JUST STOP ALL FUNDING,” says Stanley Hutchinson. “That’s what ended the Vietnam war, and that’s what it will take to end this one real quick , and bring the troops home. Let the troops run out of bullets, and fuel for the jets for air support…”
He goes on from there…That seems pretty cruel to the US troops, Mr. Hutchinson.
“I think needless propaganda only mucks up the water,” says allen. “I believe in their right to voice an opinion just disagree when it purely political”
The two retired Major Generals have been outspokenly critical about the administration’s prosecution of the war before, but you’re right, allen, in that this is the first step I’ve seen them take that is so political, running targeted TV ads aimed at specific Republican Members of Congress. Interesting that that’s where you draw the line. Why is that?
Lon points out that I accidentally referred to John Boehner as “House Majority Leader” — that’s been corrected, Lon.
Thanks for writing, everyone!

It’s never a good sign when the top Brass start speaking out against the boss man. This war was folly from the get go, and I think everyone knows it. Nobody denies that Saddam’s regime was evil, but to the pro-war folks, please stop using that as a reason for why we went to war. We all know that had nothing to do with it. There are evil regimes all over the world and we are not going after each of them. North Korea is as bad as it gets, and we KNOW they have nukes, yet we do nothing to them. This whole Iraq mess was about something completely different, and I don’t even think it is as simple as just oil (although that is certainly a part of it). I think this is a much more personal agenda of our president.
Also, for all those that are pro-war, the military desperately needs recruits. If you really think this whole thing is a noble effort, then why not sign up yourself? Lastly, stop saying those that are against the war are against our troops. That is a typical Repub. bullying tactic and I for one have had quite enough of it. Bringing our troops home safe from a pointless, un-winnable conflict is PRO TROOPS. Keeping them there to be killed or maimed in a pointless vendetta is ANTI TROOPS. Wake up. You are the ones who are against our soldiers.

Posted by: Aaron | May 9, 2007, 1:31 pm 1:31 pm

Our Army and Marine Corps are still the best in the world. The terrorists are not winning but they are an unconventional militia with no rules and no morals. Even if they take over Iraq, they will lose. They will become another Taliban regime that will set itself up to be clobbered by the West again.
There is nothing the army can do to contain these rats nor make the Sunnis and the Shiites love each other and get along. It will only cost more lives (on both sides) and more money to keep our troops there. Withdrawing is not a “defeat” and I’ll never look on our troops as losers. They are bad asses!
Withdrawal is strategic and necessary to our national security. Our armed forces need a breather and need to get their equipment repaired for other conflicts in the near future. Who knows, we may have to go back to Iraq and we’ll need to be bigger and stronger to take down the next regime if it sponsors terrorism.
And George Bush needs to get his Texas butt back where it belongs and spend the rest of his damned life praying for forgiveness. His gun happy ways have cost half a million lives and he will pay for it, if not now, then for eternity. Worst president in my book. Because of him, my cousin’s little girl has not seen her daddy but two years of her 4 year life. Damn our president.

As an African American Female & 10 year Army Veteran,I always knew that the U.S. would regret the decisions they made in the ’80′s. The fiercely trained soldiers I served with (mostly minorities), were Forced out during the Regan Era “Cutbacks of troops and Base closings”. It was during that time that the Army lost a lot of it’s real soldiers, those who joined to serve, rather than to go to college. African Americans were forced out in droves by any means(Cold war over, they were no longer needed to risk their life), while whites were allowed to stay, and retire in peacetime. Today, I live! Grateful for the many injustices so openly carried out in an attempt to protect & preserve the Klansmen mentality that headed the Army at that time. Thanks to them, Afican Americans are not a majority in the Military anymore, and the reason we have not lost as many of our men to this war as we did in the Vietnam.
The election was stolen by the republicans for Bush and they got away with it, then they lied to make a case for war, and got away with it. Now they are robbing this country and killing your children in a stupid war we should never have been in. The Bible says “You Reap what you Sow”.

If our US government began condoning internal oppression of American citizens, would we not cry out for help? What then if the all nations turned their back on us excusing the actions an internal US affair? I say, do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Obviously, many Americans are ignorant of our national values so they hide under our national banner (their bed) and assume it is not the responsibility of the US to make this world a better place. And why…? Because it will interfere with their personal freedom. The US was built upon a foundation of freedom and Christian values. But you Bush Bashing liberals would discard our national values and change them to oppression and separatism. Run and hide if you think you can. But I assure you that if we leave Iraq now, the terrorists will become bolder and celebrate their victory. They will continue to plan and invade, attacking the US again and again and there may be no peace for several generations to come. But so long as you are appeased for the present, I suppose that is all that matters.

USA troops will die in Middle East and the USA will be destroyed and as the dollar plummets and the economy dies and the debt of the war bill in the trillions come home to the tax payer, houses homes will be repressed and people who try to appose it will be put in prison camps.
The middle class will see their money and hard earned life styles die, USA will be like the former USSR, the super powers gone and the NEW WORLD ORDER COME INTO VIEW to chip and control every living soul on the planet into slaves for the elite a 1/3 of the world will be destroyed by nukes to bring down the population to a couple of billion so the world can survive the coming famines and natural disasters the shadow government are full aware of what is on horizon coming in 2012. I disagree with the minority person who claims that the blacks were forced out of the military in the 80 s. In fact, it is quite the opposite, they have come to dominate the ranks in all services. Just as they have in basketball. But the key issue here is that bush does not listen to his military who were trained and devoted their career to analize and try to plan responces to military situations. But they can’t control the politicos who seem to look at war as a video game.

The sad part is that US soldiers don’t even have the right to the very free speech they are defending all over the world. They can’t just “speak their mind” on this issue as long as they are active duty. Once they get out or retire then they speak up. If they were allowed to say what they really feel, I am confident you would not have as many soldiers agreeing with this war as you seem to think there is.
Bush is not a military leader by any stretch of the imagination. He has his own agenda that he is fulfilling. He is NOT listening to what the American people want. He is only doing what George W Bush wants. He stated very firmly to the press that HE makes the decisions, no one else. That said it all. The rest of us be damned. Our opinions do not matter. He isn’t even listening to the military commanders, why should the American public matter??? I am counting down the days when my husband can retire and get the hell out of the military and when this President is nothing but dust in the rear view mirror on Pennsylvannia Avenue.

it has been said recently that the reason for delay in clean up in the tornado stricken areas is because our troops are over-taxed in the fighting in Iraq. now is the time to take care of our own at home and let the Iraqis take responsibility for their own actions and government. we cannot impose our form of government when they are not willing to allow it….

Let’s face it…we’ve not had such a corrupt nor incompetent administration since President Grant. The ineptitude and incompetence are overwhelming. Unfortunately, the leadership failures are both civilian and military. The Joint Chiefs have failed miserably…if their advice wasn’t taken, they should have resigned on the spot.
The war in Iraq has clouded our purpose in the global war on terror. As a military retiree with a son in Baghdad, I can only express my disgust and dismay.
’nuff said.

What I find interesting is that they all waited to get out before making their statements. They could have voiced their displeasure while in the service and then truley been counted among those who place honor and courage above a career. But NO, that is not what they did, they waited until they got out, then because they didn’t make the next step, decided to voice their “concern”. As a “lifer” I understand what they are doing and it is not Courageous, but in truth the cowardly way. A true Patriot would have “fallen on his sword” while in service as other great officers did, such as MacArthur, if they truely believed the war wrong or that there was an injustice being committed. These officers are just being used as political lackys and they deserve what they received-which was to see an end to their careers-because as officers they are lacking integrity and true courage.

You don’t fight terriosm by attacking a country with an Army. You do it using intelligence and covertly as Israli did (ref. the movie “Munich”). Members of Al Qaeda make up many country’s not just one. Beside’s they were’nt even in Iraq they were in Afghanistan. We also had Iraq marginized by controlling the North and South no-fly zones. Saddam could’nt do anything to hurt us. Bush is an idiot he listen’s to no one except Cheney and he’s more concerned about Halliburton making money.

Why those who still support the war in Iraq want to try and fool the American people that this war is about saving the people in Iraq is beyond my comprehension. This war is not about that. It is about oil. If we really cared about the people we would also be in Africa where they are wiping out tribes and tribes of people. But, there is no oil there. We entered the war under lies and remain there under lies. Why can’t we learn from history and realize that we cannot win a war when the gov’t of that country tells us what we can do and who we can kill. We should have learned that lesson during Vietnam. If we were really fighting terriosm then after 9/11 why didn’t we go straight into Afganistan to hunt Bin Laden rather than Iraq? Oh, wait a minute, I forgot, Afganistan doesn’t have oil!!! Our present president has never and never will listen to anyone. After the last election, he said he wanted to work with Congress and compromise to make things work. That was bull!!! He continues to do exactly as he pleases and thinks. As long as someone goes along with what he thinks he is fine. When people don’t go along with him he draws a line in the sand and dares you to cross it because he is not going to compromise on anything. We need to bring our troops home especially if the Iraqi gov’t doesn’t get its act together and do what it needs to do to correct things in Iraq. I can’t hardly wait until Jan. 1009 then we will be changing presidents and I hope the next one elected will truly work with Congress to make this a better country.

How is it possible that in one part of this news report, you read that ‘…2,700 current and former service members’ support continued U.S. combat operations, but the main story grab are the two or three that disagree? I smell the ‘b’ word. (It’s bias…in case you’re wondering.)

Posted by: Dennis G. | May 9, 2007, 2:12 pm 2:12 pm

Gary E, as a lifer you know better than to question why these military officers are waiting until after they retire to voice their opinions. It’s called conduct unbecoming & could mean loss of rank, fines, incarceration & reduced pensions after 20+ years of service.
Get serious & realize our continued involvement in a civil war is only making a bad situation worse.

Let’s try a simple concept on for size…
The attacks of 9/11 begot the fighting in Afghanistan. The world supported the ouster of the Taliban and the crushing of Al Quaida. The evidence was clear, incontrivertible and actionable.
The War in Iraq fails to live up to any standard of evidence, decency or justification. Bush is a fool, Cheney is a manipulator and Haliburton has raked in billions…
George stated the follwing, verbatim: “We are NOT in the business of nation building.”
Every action in Iraq, the continued presence of US troops and the insane buildup of troops points to this statement being a boldfaced lie. USAF troops are being retasked to cover the lack of available Army troops to fill their mission goals. The list is endless. The suffering is endless. The lies of GW and his cabal are endless. The War in Afghanistan is backpage news at best and lo an behold, the Taliban is making gains…. $500B
for what…?
Meanwhile, Walter Reed is in disrepair and the troops are suffering for it. GW goes there every year and sees none of the problems he is directly responsible for creating. Shame on this fool and shame on anyone who excuses his idiocy as “patriotism”.

Being that I did serve my country and got out due to the that what soldiers say has to be “filtered” I can understand why the officers are talking now. They did voice their opinions while active and were ignored. President Bush is a stubborn idiot from Texas who is POWER HUNGRY and is taking advantage of his authority and power! He does not care about what the US people have to say nor does he care about what the MAJORITY of the soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan have to say. I am at Fort Drum, NY right now and soldiers have been recently coming back from Afghanistan and Iraq and the majority of them do not think we should be over there as well as extending their time from 12 months to 15 months. This will not help anyone win the war. This is causing conflict on US soil. All President Bush is doing is making family members resent the authority figures of the military and our patience is wearing thin! Marines and soldiers should have the right to tell America the real truth about how they really fell about us occupying these two countries and unfortunately the only way to do so is to get out of service or get kicked out.

Re: Swillabrew — I agree and disagree with your comment to Gary E. I’m a veteran as well. Yes, you are correct that many service personnel get caught in situations where they have to decide if it’s worth risking their career. But, that begs for me to ask you this question. Who promotes the Generals? Is it the President, or Congress?
You know the answer to that question SWILLABREW.
My point is that if Gen. Batiste stuck to his guns and let his chain of command know his displeasures, then, all he would have to worry about is getting fired. His pension and perks are still there because Congress promotes and demotes the Generals. NOT THE PRESIDENT. Eric.

So some general that is retired come out to say the Prez did not listen, well why didn’t he speak out before he retired. I will tell you why he is getting more money now to spew this crap. I will not call him a traitor but he is for sure making a profit with these statements. If he was truly worried about our fighting men he would have spoken out while still serving his country. Will it be long before he runns for office as a Dem…

This isn’t ‘some General’ making bucks off his comments.
This is someone who was IN CHARGE over there. In other words someone who knows a great deal MORE about the situation than a bunch of arm chair critics sitting safe and cozy in their computer rooms.
Some folks don’t like to hear crticism of the failed policies of this administration but facts are facts and the ones who unequivocally have THE FACTS are the folks like this General who were actually over there, in charge and ignored by someone who never actually served and lied to get us into this mess to begin with.

Chiloquin Doran-
I think you hit the nail on the head. That is why I say:
ENOUGH!

Actually Anthony, General officers serve at the pleasure of the president. While congress approves filed grade officer promotions, the president submits, Congress does not. If the General would have voiced his displeasure while in service, the most that could have been done would have been his forced retirement. The president would not have touched his pension nor his benefits-those are provided by law. It is not disloyal to the country to have an opposing opinion-it is disloyal to have one and not voice it while in the uniform-something they could have done-and as officers of high integrity should have done. They did not; so one of two things is happening here-(1. They do not have as high integrity as they have claimed and so should be retired or (2. they are making big bucks by speaking out now. Both by the way prove that they have less integrity then was thought during their serving period. In case you have not noticed, my problem is not that they have an opposing opinion, they most certainly are allowed such, my prpblem is wit officers who do not have the integrity to do what the country has asked of them and that is to stand up and be counted-troops lives depend on them everyday, we need officers who are true to their word and duty.

I would hop that none of ever forget the 11th of September and how many civilian lives were taken.
Also, remember that our military strength was decreased in the prior years leading up to the attacks on our country.
As Gen Abizaid has said, “We may not have the patience but this is a generational war.” We do need to somewhat get the situation under control and then do the same work as they are doing in the Horn of Africa.
They will attack us again! This is a conflict of their idealism (which is from many nations) not like prior conflicts of country against country.

I’m sure I don’t need to remind you what happened less than a month later in December of 1941. Please don’t try and sell ‘the majority is always right’. It doesn’t stand up to the truth of history.

J. B. Munch-
The only “cackling Chicken” I am aware of is the 5 time military draft dodgers Bush, and Cheney. Who spent there time boozing it up, doping it up, and screwing their girlfriends back home. While American heroes died alone. Rotting face down. In the jungle horrors of Vietnam.
And then they had the disgrace to campaign to continue the Vietnam war, while they were tucked away safe at home. A war that everyone else agreed was a mistake. And that we needed to get out of ASAP. How ironic that these politicians have America in this same mess again. Vietnam all over again.
GIVE ME A BREAK!

Abiout this falling on thier sword statement….everyone that I know of who has fought the good fight and spoken up against this war has been labeled a Jane Fonda liberal and anti soldier and anti American, and we have been told to set down and shut up. And that goes for today too! You as much as say this General is not a true blue American and he is a money grubber and worse becasue he is speaking out.
Well I am here to tell you I won’t(and by the way didn’t) make any money believing all along we would end up right where we are in this mess. How do you explain me…I am a 60ish consevative women living in the conservative state of Nebraska and I believe with all my heart we have been more than foolish and unwise in all our actions and deeds where this war is concerned.
Don’t you get it you guys on the right are wrong and I believe you are too proud and full of yourselves to admit this was pure and simply the biggiest mistake made in the last 35 years.
And by the way what does 9/11 have to do with this mess? And why can’t we let that one go. And while I have the stage I will tell you I would have gladly fought in the streets if needed if I thought it would have brought one single person back from that terrible day. But I would have wanted to have done it here not Bagdad.I am not afarid to fight or have my family fight for a just cause.

I spent some time in Iraq myself. I’m just amazed how people become experts overnight when they never been there or have a clue what it’s like. I was there and don’t claim to be an expert. This two star general has a right to his opinion. He even has the right to disagree with the commnader and chief. But that is just one general. How about a four star general that says we are making a difference! Should we only listen to a two star because he agrees with the Dem’s? I love how the opinions of retired generals who are not in the “know” become gospel and generals that are on the ground don’t.

Posted by: Frank | May 9, 2007, 3:17 pm 3:17 pm

So now that Democrats bought a retired General for money I wonder how much they are paying him? Does he not know Democrats never gave a flying flip about the military even when he thought they were right? Thanks for stabbing us in the back, General John Batiste. Your name is now General Judas Isacariot! My, what great honors and retirement benefits is he now drawing from my paycheck? But Tapper changed my mind about the war after all, because I don’t want to die serving under any other back-stabbing generals like Batiste. Just wave some Democrat campaign money under their nose and they’ll come along.

Posted by: Braxton Bragg | May 9, 2007, 3:21 pm 3:21 pm

Hey Lenny, to do what you ask is actually worst than what is going on. You are asking for sedition, you are demanding that Congress override the constitution of the United States. The president is Commander in Chief, not the Speaker of the House; in fact the speaker is 3rd down the chain. Since you can’t impeach either one, you do not get to just “tell the solders and generals that they are no longer taking order from George Bush or Dick Cheney.” No matter what your feelings, neither the American people nor the courts would let you destroy the constitution that way. And by the way, no more soldiers than at any other conflict are “committing suicide”, the number by far is a lot lower than during WWII and Vietnam and as to walking away, desertion or AWOL numbers are some of the lowest in any CONFLICT EVER. You need to research you numbers and data before you throw them out. The all volunteer military, while tired and overworked, is not:”just walking away.”

This “war” was a mistake from day one. GW thought this Saddam was going to be an easy target. The people were misled as to the reasons for the war and then again when GW declared victory with the political photo op on the aircraft carrier, what 4 years ago? Some victory.
We are stuck is a situation that cannot be won. The admin does not even know what would constitute a win at this point. The Iraqi government is thumbing their nose at us and dragging their feet every step.
I can’t help but think how much safer our country would be ifteh $100+ billion dollars was spent on internal security. Think of all the people that could have been hired to guard our ports, borders and airports.
The US is not safer. Try going to any country in the world and see how Americans are treated. The world looks at us as the ultimate arrgessors. To them we are the terrorists.
It’s a joke, its about oil and it’s about GW’s revenge on Saddam for his bounty on his “Daddy”.

Sorry, but as anyone who has served in the military knows, military personell are required by law to remain politically neutral in their public statements. These generals who are voicing their opiniions now are doing so because they previously could not. If they had they would have been subject to UCMJ action, up to and including a courts-martial. In a courts-martial they could have been stripped of all benefits and retirement. So in fact it was not ok for them to say something while on active duty. To those who say that they should have spoken up anyway and risked their pensions I say: Yea right!!!!!!

Hey Fred, you’re right about the Generals becoming more like politicians than soldiers as far they climb the ranks. Of course, that wouldn’t apply to the Cols, Majs, & other officers & enlisted who either choose to wait until they’ve officially severed their ties with the military before speaking out, or in some cases have spoken out while active only to be ignored, whitewashed, or who knows what else.
I’ve been sadly amused to watch Bush accuse the Congress of not heeding the leaders on the ground when he has been guilty of exactly the same thing since the first days of Shock & Awe.
Guess that’s why we call them politicians, eh?

I am baffled by the inability of the idiots in the America that cannot see that regardless of blunders made in this war on terror that we still must fight the war to keep the enemy from our homeland.
Do any of you pay attention to the news and the thwarted attempts to attack us internally, like the attempt to attack Ft. Dix. Do you not understand that the Islamic radicals are out to kill ALL of us not just our military? Have you not heard them say what their goal is….to kill all Americans? Do you not understand that they hate us? Do you think they are just spouting off at the mouth like most of you that have posted here?
God have mercy on us as a nation. He has to have mercy on us because the people are to blind to see the truth and are to busy being concerned about their self centered comforts and being impatient to get their next technological toy to play with rather than doing their patrotic duty and serving their country and defending our country.
Maybe when the next big explosions or a chemical attack that kills thousands or millions takes place maybe the people will wake up. What a pathetic mess the country that I gave 20 years of my life defending has become.

Posted by: Tom Cobb | May 9, 2007, 3:49 pm 3:49 pm

I am afraid JIMT that you do not know what you are talking about. What Article of the UCMJ does it say “military personnel are required by law to remain politically neutral in their public statements”. Because in my UCMJ, which I have open right now, there is no such article. You are required to clear public statement with the department of defense, just as you would if you are writing a book or an article for a paper. You did not give up your rights when you joined the military, just the freedom to use them while in uniform or to attach an official notice to your statements. There are several current examples of both officers and enlisted participating in the anti-war movement today. They are allowed to do so because they are participating as citizens and not as officials of the government. Again I repeat that If the General would have voiced his displeasure while in service, the most that could have been done would have been his forced retirement. The president would not have touched his pension nor his benefits-those are provided by law. It is not disloyal to the country to have an opposing opinion-it is disloyal to have one and not voice it while in the uniform-something they could have done-and as officers of high integrity should have done. We are the people of the United States. If we don’t like the way the government is run then it is up to us to make the changes. We started with the last election. The House and Congress are doing what they can at the present time. If you don’t want to wait until the next presidential election then tell your congressperson. If we flood their offices mail and calls then they won’t be able to ignore us.

Thank you for your courage, Jake Tapper.
I have great difficulty believing the US will EVER get out of Iraq(1)given the investment expended on the 5 huge military bases built in that country and our history of rarely leaving any country we “conquer”(2) the chronic, now ingrained 60 year old Industrial-Military-Congressional Complex that predominates and overwhelms our ECONOMY and CULTURE(3)the profitability for private contractors in Iraq,(4)the basic war aim of controlling the oil resources in Iraq in perpetuity, and (5)the continuing lack of any relevant analysis and insight presented to the American people that explains evergrowing Muslim hostility beyond Iraq to the aims of US world hegemony.

Tom Cobb, the best offense is a good defense. What defense do we have now? Half the National Guard is in Iraq. Our borders are ports, borders and airports are open to anyone with half a brain to get through.
You don’t have to be a 5 star general to now that you don’t go off to fight when your front door is open.
The war money would have been better put to use for defense of the homeland.

This piece is intended to educate the unknowing, unthinking, unconscious among us. I’ve read your rants, stood by your soapboxes, and searched for the truth. Since the majority of posts are in favor of pulling the rug out from under those accused of pulling the wool over them/us, I have a couple of points to ponder:
First, of the US Constitution grants sole authority to go to war to the Executive Branch, aka Bush43. The makers of the US Constitution realized long ago that nitwits like Pelosi, Feinstein, Reid, et., al., would emerge from the woodwork from time to time, and should have some collective authority, but very limited individual authority, whereby they could do some minor damage while not greatly impacting the world the rest of us live in.
The ‘Decider’ is the one for whom the individual authority is reserved, which fuels not a little animosity/envy from the aforementioned nitwits and their supporters. For the Legislative Branch to usurp authority from the Executive Branch is counter-constitutional, and smells a lot like anarchy… never mind sedition.
Secondly, we are not a democracy, but a democratic republic through elected representation. The founding fathers knew that masses are essentially sheep, and as such, are prone to follow whichever wind seems most favorable at a given time. They never intended for public sentiment or whims to decide the nation’s direction, but to leave that to the elected President and his cabinet. And, yes… 70+ percent of Americans can be wrong.
Thirdly, this nation is in very dire straits, hated for what we are, envied for what we have, despised for what we give to the world’s down-and-outers. Add this to a Muslim jihad feeding-frenzy and we have the potential for a serious interruption of our busy schedules. The insanity of it all is that perhaps half of this nation would cede anything to the jihadists if they promised not to hurt us anymore. These factions can’t be reasoned with, cajoled, or enticed to like or get along with us. Their net contribution to modern civilization is the rockpiles they live in. It has been so for centuries and is unlikely to change. Therefore, if you are not comfortable living under Sharia Law (or the prospect of having your progeny do so), then the solution is to find them and dispose of them by whatever means is most expeditious and efficient (take no prisoners who will live to fight you another day!). To truly see the enemy for who he/she is, watch the beheading videos posted around the web. These jihadists would gladly do the same for you and your family.
Lastly, paid spokespersons, lobbyists, and the like are frequently former military, but just as frequently former corporate or entrepreneurial. If the issue is combat, the former military voice would seem the most credible, but I would first follow the money trail, then arrive at a conclusion. Douglas MacArthur differed with Truman, and paid the political price. Where were these general officers when they could have voiced opposition?

I knew Bush was going to be trouble for our nation. I saw him as an evil leader. I knew it, and that is why I didn’t vote for him. Something just wasn’t right. But now !! Look what we are stuck with. He needs to be impeached, stop fooling around and pussyfooting. Get him out and bring our troops home. I totally agree with General Batiste.

I remember when the Iraqi War started….hmmm…how may years ago was that? It’s been so long I can’t remember! I remember when President Bush announced “Mission Accomplished while speaking on an aircraft carrier”. …….hmmm….how many years ago was that? It’s been so long I can’t remember! Come on folk’s you don’t have to be a liberal to see the Bush administrations Iraqi strategy has failed time after time. The President has surrounded himself with the best propaganda team the American people have ever been exposed to. Many of those that got sucked in and supported the war are having a hard time with it. Americans are a competitive bunch and always like to back a winner. Sure these ads are propaganda, but hey! Propaganda has worked for the Bush Administration all these years, maybe the Democrats a getting a little smarter and decided why not give it a try? Anything that might help bring our brave troops home is worth a try.

2nd Ammendment gu you make good points but one thing you are wrong about. Our country is supposed to be run by the will of the people buy our elected reps. This is certainly not the case. Our counry is run by corporate greed. Corporate money run the White House. The oil industry decides policy.
Why is that in most of the country you still cannot get alternative fuels, ie E85 or bio-Diesel. The oil companies want to keep us addicted to oil. Just like the cigarette companies did.
If we became energy independent, the middle east’s economies would crash and they couldn’t aford to wage war. Plus we would have no reason to be there.

I seem to remember that the war was started because of weapons of masss descruction. Then it became the war on terror because no wmd was found. This is now a religious war not a military war and we are in the middle. Bush says we need to stay until it is done. Well when will that be. When we have to put up a second wall with untold thousands of names on it. This war should be called THE WAR WITH NO END. Only the ones who gave the ultimate will see the end. Lives cut short for no reason but to satisfy one mans need for a legacy. Well bud you got it; a failed legacy.

This has never happened in my lifetime that the retired Generals are so displeased with a president that they actually defy him in TV ads. That alone should tell the president how horrificly unpopular he is. It is because the President is so uncompromising to everyone and anyone but his few at-all-costs loyal compadres. He is going to loose it all not only for himself, but for the GOP for a long time to come. He will go down in history as the worst president to ever serve the American people and the destroyer of democracy and the American way. My opinion is he deserves it along with his die hard loyals.

Again, how will we accept U.N. and foreign troops in the U.S. taking over National Guard duties unless our troops are elsewhere? Spurious George is spending brave servicemen and women’s lives like he is drunken sailor! And he has committed every impeachable offense just short of prostituting shool kids to senators! I am sick of reading and hearing about the lives of these brave soldiers getting sniped, car-bombed, and blown to smithereens by IEDs when I know that they are being used to protect big oil and the hegemonic agenda of contractors like Halliburton! I am fed up, how about you? The number of U.S. troops that have been killed is disgusting. Over 655,000 dead civilian Iraqis is also disgusting! I cannot blame the Iraqis for fighting us for we Americans would fight any occupying forces if we could pull ourselves away from ‘Dancing with the Stars”! Folks, Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11 and 9/11 was an inside job. There is a gargantuan pile of evidence to support this—investigate and think for yourselves–do not let people tell you what to think–think for yourselves! Iran is obviously part of the agenda and there will probably be some sort of 9/11 to foment people into being behind that too! The only reason that people cannot get their heads around this is because the mainstream media is complicit in not reporting the news so they think everything is OK! Wake up and wake other people up for the ‘redcoats are coming’!

I have two sons in Iraq, both in the Army, both in the Infantry. My son in Anbar Province says no matter how many insurgents are killed there are always more to replace them. The soldiers don’t come out during the day, it’s too dangerous. Their interpreter quit because he thought it was too dangerous to continue. My son in Baghdad simply does what he is told even though he thinks the situation is hopeless. He has had SF training and is more prepared than the rest. What scares him are the guys watching his back and how unprepared they all are. He has been hit by IEDs twice, suffering concussions both times. I want to know why my sons have to fight for the freedom of people refusing to fight for themselves.

The current administration’s “strategy” is convincing many of Islam’s “unemployed-without-direction-already-angry-at-the-west young males” that what Uncle Usama and other radicals (Pakistan Tribal areas)have justified, is, in fact, justified. Just what we need – all of the former “fence-sitters” heading downtown to the local “cell” recruiter and signing up for Jihad. The mistakes of this Iraqi adventure, I believe, will end up costing more US lives in the long run than many, many 9/11s. Hell, the Israelis “only” have to deal with Iran, Hizballah, Syria and the Palestinians. The US, by nature, has all of the above, plus horn-of-Africa, Asia and possibly even S. America. This has to be right up there with some of the “all-time biggest screw-ups” in recorded history.

The executive branch of our government has failed us completely. We must leave Iraq now and our Congress is the only hope we have of doing so before the next presidential election. Republicans, listen carefully to the voice of concerned Americans, if you wish to serve your country in future years. Your votes are what stand in the way of changing the failed policies of the oval office. If you will not help the American people save us from such a disaster as the Iraq war has become you may very well follow our current president into the obscurity he is destined for.

I was active duty during Vietnam and I am about to retire from the Reserves and this is the second war that I have served during where the man on the ground can’t identify whose the ememy and whose not. I said before we went into Iraq that it was a mistake even if he did have the weapons if supposedly had because it would turn into another Vietnam where we could not get out in a good face. The difference now is the people support our troups and the come home heros.

Seems that Mr. Batiste knew what Rumsfield was like, why didn’t he get a reassignment in 2001? Why does one wait so long to bring up the faults of the ones he was working for, including the President?Could it have been his Army that left behind all the guns and ammo that are today being used to kill our Soldiers? I would say give me a break but….

“2700 soldiers who petitioned to support the war VS. 3 Generals who want a political career? I pick the Soldiers!”
There are how many soldiers in the military and they could only get 2700 to sign the petition? That’s a fraction of the absymal turnout for the typical presidential election.

Way to many soldiers of this great country have given their lives in support of a Government that leaves them in the cold after it has used them. The current Government continues not to support the benefits of disabled combat veterans that served in past Wars. Yet they continue to make more disabled veterans that will go through more pain and suffering then they ever could have thought possible. All in j just trying to recieve benefits that the Government said they would have. I am one of those disabled combat veterans – of 3 wars who has been fighting the Veterans Administration for almost 7 years – just to get what I earned – no more and no less – I EARNED them and I sacrificed for them. There are many, many more in front and behind me that also have suffered and will continue to suffer. I don’t understand how such a great country can abandon those who gave everything for it! Yet the Government does! Get us out of a war that is going no where – didn’t they politicans learn anything from Vietnam – Bosnia – and the others – what a waste of so many good people and so much money – over what – politics and power! HOW SAD YOU ARE MR BUSH! I admire the General for standing up and saying his peace – he is truly a great man!

Generations of my family have served in the United States military since World War I, honored with a Purple Heart and a Distinguished Flying Cross during World War II. Every American family is in similar ways connected to our Men and Women risking their lives today in Iraq. Honor them. Find a way to end the occupation. It’s time for America to focus our treasure and our hard won FREEDOM in positive ways, to develop new technologies that replace petrochemicals, prepare our country for sweeping climate change, educate the world’s children, and help an overpopulated world live in peace.
Cheney, Wolfowitz, Rumsfield, and Bush – old men who thought they could manipulate our Democracy. Hoo-Rah America – time for a change.

Hey “You cant handle the truth”
If you are going to post something, you should post something that can’t be checked and shown to be a bold faced lie “The number of officer cadets resigning their commissions is the highest it has ever been in history. There has literally been a flood of resignations of the best and the brightest.” is one big lie. The statistics on resignations are public and posted by the Department of Defense, the line to get into the Point and every other Academy are still very long, try another propaganda tactic-you just might find one lie that works and people listen to, although you are so transparent so you probably won’t be able to figure it out.

Yo, people. If your still yapping about the fighting in Iraq then you have a failed situation on your hands; No And’s, No If’s, No but’s. Just pure failure. It’s just that simple.
By the way, the term “support the troops” is meaningless until you have a solid reference point as to what the statement means. And nobody has even bothered to write any list down.
Damn…people are stupid.

“I believe that those retired Generals that are opposing the President of the United States should be tried for Treason. They all had to have taken the oath to support the Commander in Chief and with that alone, as military commanders, they should be following orders, and not questioning them.”
No, actually they took an oath to preserve and protect the Constitution of the US. Pretty much the same one the Constitution has for the President.
Tony Aquiningoc and 2nd Amend. guy really need to read the document they so badly misquote.
The power to go to war is vested only in Congress, not in the President, he is CinC, a totaly different thing.

What caused us to lose in ‘Nam was a lack of support at home. Our morale had snapped and the enemy won. Here we are on another round and America still has not learned: when you are in a war you MUST win. The only question we should be asking and finding the answer for is: “How do we win?”

Mr. Bush has allowed Cheney and Rove to expose a deep cover CIA agent. A person at war with terrorists. An expert in weapons of mass destruction and a person that would get no diplomatic immunity if caught spying in a foreign country. This would be called treason if a democrat had done it but what’s more important is that this is a perfect example of where this administration is really coming from. Bush does not care one bit about the disaster his goons have made in Iraq. Bush is not fit to lead anyone into war. He is nothing but a spoiled idiot prince that has broken all the rules and gone to the front of the line all his life.

Besides, you can’t get much safer than being in the Navy during a war, especially since the enemy had no navy or air force. Gee, he almost as safe and Bush and Cheney.

ntsc is correct:
All Officers and Enlisted personnel take an oath to defend the U.S. Constitution, NOT an elected leader of any type, including presidents.
Presidents are Commander-In-Chief of WHAT Congress allows presidents to be Commander-In-Chief OF.
It is CONGRESS that creates and disbands all government Agencies and Departments.
In short, If Congress wanted too, Congress could disband the entire military and recreate something completely new.
Now That’s power.

Liberals are so blind to the facts and the truth. You’d rather cut and run than make a stand. Instead of whining and crying, why don’t you ask the TROOPS whether they should leave before the job is finished. You morons don’t know what their mindset is. You don’t know how they feel. You aren’t over there making a difference for the Iraqi people. You people are just afraid of conflict. You liberals have been cut and run types since WWII. In fact, you may be to blame for the spread of Communism in Eastern Europe directly following WWII. You didn’t have a plan for Germany and Poland etc. like the Russians did. All you wanted to do was bring the troops home and forget that the war ever happened. So shut up and stop telling everybody what the troops feel when you don’t have an ounce of credibility.

Posted by: Frank Castle | May 9, 2007, 5:04 pm 5:04 pm

You who are accusing General Batiste of less than honorable motives apparently have never served in the military. General Batiste knows that trying to bring “freedom” to Iraq through military force is like trying to save your marriage by beating up on your wife. And maybe he’s sick and tired of watching his courageous troops being killed and maimed in a war as stupid as Vietnam.
Remember General Eric Shinseki? At the very beginning of the war he said it could not be waged without 700,000 troops on the ground. Bush ignored him and destroyed his career in answer.

I’m glad this is happening. At least our military schools don’t have all dummies. I was wondering why we had Military Schools. Bush should be put up for war crimes along with the congress and senate for following such a yogi bear. It was quite apparent that Iraq did not have nuclear weapons. The war on Terror is in the USA and our borders are not secure. We no longer have a national guard to protect us. We need the draft. With the draft things will happen. That is the public will become concerned. Only 1% of the population is affected with the guard. We need a Draft to get the ball rolling and end this Bush Fiascio. Bush is a Dummie. No argument on the alternative/bio-fuels position from me. One only has to look at Chavez seizing control of international oil operations in South America to see where that’s headed.
What it’s all about, unfortunately, and what many here can’t seem to grasp, is that in the free-world corporations, not governments, do amazing things like turning rubber from the plantations at Cu Chi, Vietnam and elsewhere and feed the Michelin monster, et. al., enabling them to produce the tires that get us from A to B. For their gargantuan efforts, corporations are rewarded by our consumption of their products. We are happy we got to work without a tire mishap. Corporate shareholders are happy because shares split 3-for-1. Corporate Boards are happy because shareholders are happy, and reward executives with gargantuan salaries and golden parachutes, a la Enron. And that all happens when profits are good.
It all comes down to P&L. Corporations who don’t make money go bust. But healthy corporations are vital to us and our way of life, they achieve and create the things individuals and entrepreneurs can not. They fuel the huge government machine that depends upon them for its existence.
Governments don’t make anything, they simply regulate and attempt to control what is made in the private sector.
I fear the future for US automakers, nevermind the trickle-down effect on the rest of us, who are about to go down for the count in the face of foreign competition.
With the Mexican Migration in full swing, we’re faced with some hard choices and we the people don’t seem able to make them. It’s a bit late to seal the borders and revert to isolationist policies, but the alternative worries me more. I have no faith in what my government can do for me, because it has proven that the best it can do is gridlock.
Therefore, I do the best I can, educate where I can, and hope for the best while preparing for the worst. Rome’s demise is not an isolated historical incident; it can happen here quicker than anyone might think. For the record, when (not if) oil is traded in Yen-per-barrel, we are done as a superpower. As a former vet, I’d hate to think it happened on my watch.

Here’s what I’d do as the next president.
Pull troops out of Iraq. Rest, rebuild, refit troops for two years. Fight a delaying action in Afghanistan, (the real fight) until the army is rebuilt.
Then send the refreshed army to Afghanistan. You have to do this in a way to convince the Taliban that fighting the new government will not work. No hope of winning that way. You have to split the Taliban from Al Quaeda. Each group has it’s own ideas and you have to form a split between them. This will take more time than necessary because of the bungled attempts by Bush.
The road is longer and harder. More troops will be wounded or be killed in action. Other course is to withdraw and see what happens. Actually that’s not bad either. You can always go back in, in fact, you might have a better outlook over the entire situation. Both ideas have merit.

Posted by: James | May 9, 2007, 5:19 pm 5:19 pm

As a foreigner it might seem unapropriate to react on this US internal issue, however I woul’d like to share this thought with you: As the USA seem to be willing to impose their idea of democracy onto the whole world, It would be nice if this democracy really works… and if a President of this your nation obviously misleades the people of that nation, and therewith the whole world that he wants to democratise his way, I think that it is appropriate that the people who know about that first handedly can tell about it, eventhough they are working in the military or even the administration. That would be nice for a change: to have some transparancy instead of conspiracy…

Everyone that says that the war is a failure is incorrect. Our objective was to get Saddam out of power. We did more than that. We got the whole government out. Now, it’s up to the people of Iraq to set up their own government without outside interferance.
The middle-east nations need to help by keeping everyone else out of the way so they can achieve this.
With that said, bring ALL of our military home to the good ol’ US and protect our boarders. Not just the Mexican boarder but the Canadian boarder and the coasts. When the cats away the rats will get in and have a BLAST, literally.

Bush is determined to do whatever he wants and NO ONE is gonna tell him otherwise. Meanwhile OUR brave men and women are fighting a dying in a war that they should not even be in. Can anyone tell me, what happened to trying to find who REALLY attacked us, thats right OSAMA BIN LADEN…when was the last time Bush mentioned his name. If we had to be at war, it should have been in Afghanistan and the mountains of Pakistan where our REAL enemy is. Now because of this fiasco, we don’t even have enough manpower to defeat the people (TERROIST) going after us. Bush did some kind of David Copperfield move to get most of the people (NOT ME) to believe that Saddam was the enemy. Saddam was our enemy, but a special ops force could have taken care of him, not our armed forces. Who’s running the store…Our President is dangerous and the longer we let him do this, the more danger we are all in, Osama is in a cave planning the next attack and we are in the middle of a mess. I can’t believ anyone voted for him, he STINKS!!!

First of all, I don’t think we DID “vote for him.” He was put into office under the most questionable situations ever known. Secondly, for all of the people who think the US is pro “democracy,” the US was established as a Constitutional Republic. A “democracy” is nothing more than mob rule. Setting up an enforced
“democracy” in any country is a recipe for civil war. The Founding Fathers of the US were completely opposed to “democracy.” What we have now in the US is no longer a Constitutional Republic. We now have all ten planks of the Communist Manifesto established here. We have a totalitarian, fascist, communist dictator in office, which is why he will not listen to us. In the meantime, the other world “leaders” march in step establishing the NWO, which is a communist plan of global scale and magnitude.

response to James, et. al.,
In the grand scheme of things, nothing this nation could do would be more foolhardy than packing our bags in Iraq for a 2-year hiatus.
#1 – We just told everyone who hates our guts how to beat us… just wait long enough and we’ll get tired and leave.
#2 – We walked into a country and neutered whatever government and military capacity it had; to walk away with (a) no effective replacement government, (b) no military capable of defending Iraq from it’s neighbors is pure folly. Remember the next-door neighbor who fought Iraq for eight long years over borders, and who’s convinced the Holocaust was a myth?
Whether you feel Mideast Oil is ‘What It’s All About’, would you feel more comfortable with Ahmadinejad (now with nukes) in control of Mideast oil resources??? Get a grip!
#3 – To expect that we remain in a holding pattern in Afghanistan for two years while revamping is equally bogus… if you were Al Queda, where would you go? Pakistan, Indonesia, Africa, Chicago, Toronto, anywhere the US troop presence was not. Remember, AQ is a fluid organization, has no borders, has no leadership that can be located, but for certain sure has a direction and motive. They’ve mastered unconventional war tactics like hit-and-run, like the VC of another day, they live and work in public in civilian clothes by day, and wage jihad after dark. There is no end to their patience; the end result – defeat of the infidels – is paramount to them.
If only we could be equally and mutually determined to see their end….

Bush, Rove, Cheney, Rummy should all be tried for all of their criminal acts.(and there are many)
This is worse President even Nixon was never this much of a buffoon. There are more corrupt gangsters sitting in the white house than seats.
Sadly, most if not all of this has all come at the expense of american people.
The only class of people not feeling the effects of this is the top 1 percent of the earners.

3,333 U.S. troops have been killed in a war over non-existent WMD’s in Iraq. The Bush Administration cherry picked intelligence information and used scare tactics to justify rushing us into war. 3,333 brave Americans who enlisted to defend America lay in their graves, because the Bush Administration betrayed them by using them as pawns. This war is about providing access to the 2nd largest oil reserves in the world to U.S. oil corporations. If Saddam was using U.S. oil corporations instead of Russian and French oil corporations, he would still be in power. U.S. oil corporations would have used their influence over U.S. politicians that they bought with campaign contributions to protect him. Through the Bush Administration’s incompetence and lack of forethought, they have handed the majority Shiite nation of Iraq over to the Iranians. My question is, how can anyone justify continued support of the Bush Administration?

To everyone who says our objective was to get Saddam out of power, and that attacking Iraq was justified because he was such a tyrant, please answer this question:
Why are there so many other tyrannical leaders elsewhere in the world, with regimes at least as dangerous as Saddam’s (some far more dangerous), yet we do nothing to remove them from power?
Have you really been duped that easilly into believing that we waged this war for humanitarian reasons?

The General has EVERY RIGHT as a citizen to speak his mind, that’s why he dawned that uniform on in the first place to protect the FREEDOMS that Americans have. FREEDOM OF SPEECH!!
Secondly, he’s RIGHT!! Bush is the WORST president this country has EVER had!! He invaded a country that had NOTHING to do with 911. He chose to take this country into a war that has no end in site. Bush has made that region less safe.

Posted by: Ron Maar | May 9, 2007, 7:41 pm 7:41 pm

Well I for one would like for The
General to elaborate. What specifically did he tell Bush that Bush ignored? I am willing to listen! As for the 300-400 thousand troops we did not have them and Rumsfeld admitted as much when he said you go to war with what you have, not what you want. I never agreed with Rumsfelds military re-organization or With Powells “you break it you own it philosophy.” But hell broke loose on Rummy for telling the truth. I would like to see a little more agressiveness on the part of the military as in tracking down and killing Al Sadr and anyone who dances in the street with a gun after an IED goes off. Our rules of engagement are too wimpy and that is the real cause of our problems! That and the inability to go into places that are off limits just like in Vietnam when we could not bomb Hanoi.
As to having gone into Iraq, Saddam was in violation of the truce and that was reason enough. But for those who are ignorant of the facts let me just state that Al Queda was in Iraq. It was working with the group named Ansar al Islam and was being used to suppress the Kurds with Saddam turning a blind eye. Saddam had a long history of supporting terrorist not Al Queda specifically. Iraq was on the list of terror sponsoring nations BEFORE Bush took office. Saddams relationship with the group is and was nebulous but did exist and is documented. There is no evidence linking him to 911 and despite the claims of some on here Bush and Cheney never claimed any direct link. I remember Cheney saying there was NO link. British intelligence still stands behind their yellow cake claims that Bush mentioned in his speech. Saddam was 10 times worse than Milosevic and how many on here supported his removal for his crimes against humanity ( I smell hypocrisy ). I did not support it and did not think such reasoning was valid in Saddams case either.
The justification and reasoning went as such:
1. Saddam supports Palestinian terrorist with money against their mutual enemy Israel. 2. He has not proven to have destroyed all of the WMDs that HE claimed to own post GWI. 3. What is to stop him from handing such a weapon to Al Queda to use on their mutual enemy the USA? See bullet number 1. Re-read as necessary until the light goes off in your head. You need not agree with the reason and still oppose having gone to war but the logic is inescapable. The intel given to Bush was wrong, incomplete and or both that does not make him a liar for having gone to war with it. There was no rush it, took 18 months of debate in congress and at the UN before troop one set foot on Iraqi soil. During this time the many reasons for going to war were trotted out one at a time making it seem that they were unrelated and as if Bush was grasping at straws trying to find something that would stick. The communication was simplistic and poorly done. All of the reasons should have been given together and mentioned every time. This does not make Bush a liar but a poor communicator and I think we call all agree he is not the best speaker.
There was a coalition of over 30 nations involved. They provided as much support as we got in GWI which is to say very little. Dont count me as ungrateful it is all some of them could send. The difference is that we were fighting GWI with Reagans military and could muster 300,000 troops easily and we are fighting the war on terror with the downsized Clinton military which is half the size under Reagan. In defense of Clinton this was the result of the collapse of the USSR and Democrats desires to spend on social programs. I dont have an answer on how to win I just know that I want us to win and leaving now just does not seem to be the right answer!

As a former Sergeant First Class of the U.S. Army, I am well aware of the ridiculous argument that not supporting the war means that you don’t support the troops, and that you are not patriotic. I served in the war. I have many friends currently deployed to war zones. I fully support their efforts. However, as a former Non-Commissioned Officer, I lived by the NCO Creed that clearly stated, “All soldiers are entitled to outstanding leadership.” The soldiers serving today are not receiving outstanding leadership from the highest levels. The Iraq war was founded on lies and deceit, and the soldiers that are acting under orders to complete each mission they are given do extremely well to meet all expectations. It is time that we gave these brave men and women the right orders to follow. This can only be accomplished by removing the “legacy chasing” commander-in-chief, George W. Bush. Leading this country means doing what is right for the country, and its people. Our government was established to create a foundation for leading the country through the voice of its people. The Bush administration is definitely not listening to the voice of the people, and for this he should be removed from his position.

I also did not realize that you would have done a much better job of running a war and a country at the same time. As for “seb’s” comment on all the problems this country is having and them falling squarely on the President’s shoulders, wake up. How can all the problems our country has come from the President who has only been in office 7 years? And surely you all do not believe that there has not been any good done in Iraq, do you? Oh wait, that’s what you’ve been told by the good folks at the networks, isn’t it? Does anybody notice how whenever the White House wants support the “powers that be” always score a major success like catching terrorist planning to kill troops at Fort Dixe. If Al Queda is really smart they’ll attack only when a competent administration is in office. Why waste your resources when this one will do your work for you.

I completely agree with the ad. Bush–the guy won’t listen. Americans DO NOT want to endanger our soldiers, we don’t care about the Bush family’s beef with Iraq (which has little to do with our everyday lives) and we don’t want to stay at war. Our nation is losing men & women unnecessarily and we need them home. Nevermind that we have a natural disaster almost every week with very few national guards to respond because they’re all in Iraq or headed there. The ad is right on point but I won’t hold my breath for him to listen now because he doesn’t need our votes anymore.

Greed and power backed by an unstoppable defense industry along with the control of the media is a painfully destructive combination. The actions of this presidency are not accidents. They were intentional acts intended to destroy America. This is quite clear when looked at from the globalist point of view. They must tear down America as far as they can, to eliminate all resistance while they built they sick, twisted new world order. But I have a strong intuition that they won’t get very far with their madness…

9/11 was an inside job. Research into the matter leaves no doubt for any rational person. Once you know this all the rest takes on a new perspective.
It is too late anyway, all of us around the world can see clearly what many Americans are yet blind to. The greatest and most pending threat not only to peace, but the survival of the human race, is the USA.
Since its inception the USA has never had a year when it was not involved in war, in other lands. More than one hundred million innocents have perished directly at the hands of the USA or in it’s history since the native Americans to the latest ‘Collateral Damage’ in Iraq or Aghanistan. More than 100 million!

To respond to the Bush Administration’s position that establishing timelines for troop redeployment and benchmarks for the Iraq government would be a mistake, it might be of interest to note that just this week the protestants and the Catholics in Ireland established a peaceful resolution to their decades old bloody feud. And it was due to Great Britain’s offer to withdraw their troops and their ruling powers if the two sides sat down and came to joint rule of their country. A timeline and benchmarks. It worked. Imagine that. No, we can’t just leave the mess the Bush administration created in Iraq, but we can create benchmarks with consequences that will have a resounding impact on the motivation of the new Iraq government and people to stop the insurgency themselves and bring peace on their terms and with their constitution, not our ideals of democracy forced on a different culture and a demoralized people.
Bush and Cheney should be impeached for their actions and a new administration put in place to end this madness.

What these generals are doing is effectively attempting to undermine the basic premise of our Constitution – civilan supremacy over the military. For thos who compare the Iraq situation to Vietnam, we would of won that war if libs did not tie the hands of the troops. and when we pulled out over 2 million people were slaughtered.
The 9/11 commission that te socialist hold up stated that the terrorists were at war with us during Clinton pathetic presidency and nothing was done. Which led up to 9/11.
Why don’t we wait until we see a mushroom cloud before we do anything. I mean the libs waited to take out Hitler after he killed more then 12 million people.
As far as the General resigning in protest, he was up for retirement. If he did not like it he would of resigned years ago. And remember Clark ran for the socialist party in 2006. They are looking for book deals.
When the socialist’s (Democrats) call our troops Nazis, terrorist in the middle of night I do not think that is supporting our troops and any ex military man that can support that party did not join the military for honor but to use it.

Nice try Tim! (I am repeating this from a posting a few days ago.) You may not want to acknowledge it, but George W. Bush WAS ELECTED President of the United States in 2000 and, AGAIN, in 2006. If anyone tried to steal the 2000 election it was the mainstream media in their attempt to delay calling the early Bush victories and overhyping the early Gore victories. They held off calling states for Bush that they knew he would win by double digits. And the networks called Gore the winner of Florida an hour BEFORE the polls on the panhandle were closed. About an hour later, the networks reversed the call and announced Bush the winner. All of that was an attempt to discourage Republican voters in states where the polls were still open and suppress their votes. It worked, but fortunately not enough! Then Vice President Gore decided to cherry-pick a handful of counties for recounting, hoping to find enough votes to overturn the election. He failed! Several media teams recounted the votes and they all verified that George W. Bush, did in fact, win Florida and the national election.

Posted by: James Danley | May 10, 2007, 9:19 pm 9:19 pm

George Bush was NOT elected in the sense that Ahmadi Nejad was elected. ie: By a clear majority vote in a democratic and transparent election. International observers confirmed this.
Ironically the international observers concluded that the US elections were not honest or transparent. The GAO investigations have also quantified the election fraud, it isn’t in doubt. The fact that US elections are now completely undermined, that they are rigged and blatantly even, is known to the whole world. The only ones denying it are those who still delude themselves into thinking their guys are in power.
If you want fair and honest elections you will not find them in the USA, but you can go to Venezuala, another victim of US slander and threats, and see a country whose democratoc elctions got top marks, again according to the same international observers who maintain the US system is fraudulent.

Should we really be surprised that Bush hasn’t listened to the military? Nothing he’s done has been conducive to their well-being. How much of the money appropriated in all of the spending bills actually went to the military? How much went to DHS? What about Halliburton? Blackwater? So on and so forth…but the point remains; a lot of Americans are already awake to what’s happening, and a lot more are waking up everyday. I just hope these people know what they can expect when EVERYBODY in this country has had enough of their greed, hate, lies, and war. I like to think of myself as a pacifist, but every person has their limits. I rest assured at night knowing I’m not the only person that feels that way. Give sensibility and intelligence a chance. Support our troops with positive thoughts and prayers, and hope for their safe arrival home. Don’t support the idiots that are allowing their deaths for the sake of POWER. That’s what it comes down to…Power. The bestsolution I can think of: don’t give it to them. Don’t let them have power over you. All they want is your heart and mind. Keep those for yourself.

Denying the fact that Islamic extremists want to destroy America and the rest of the civilized world in order to form their own Caliphate is the real insanity. Democrats flexing their newly acquired muscle in an attempt to micro-manage the war in Iraq is the real insanity. Calling for the immediate withdrawl of our troops from Iraq — regardless of the consequences that have been forecast should we leave Iraq prematurely (even the Iraq Study Group Report warned: “If we leave and Iraq descends into chaos, the long-range consequences could eventually require the United States to return.”) — is the real insanity. Attempting to roll back the clock and reverting to a September 10, 2001 mindset is the real insanity.
Your hatred for President George W. Bush has blinded you from the real truth: The Islamic extremists want us dead because we refuse to convert not only to Islam, but to their extremist interpretation of Islam. It’s that simple! And they are willing to kill anyone, even other Muslims, who stand in their way. President Bush did NOT cause this. These Islamic extremists have been killing Americans for over 20 years. But it is President Bush who is doing everything he possibly can — fully within the powers given to him by the U. S. Constitution and Congress — in order to prevent any future attacks against the homeland by these Islamic extremists. Al Qaeda DECLARED Iraq as their primary battleground. Cutting and running from Iraq will only give al Qaeda the victory they are looking for. We must defeat the Islamic extremists wherever they are! It is better to take the battle to them, rather than wait until they return to Main Street U. S. A.
Thank you President Bush for your courage in standing up against the Islamic extremists; and remaining resolute in your efforts to defeat them wherever they are!

Could not say it better James. Don’t you love they keep bringing up Halliburton, but they leave out a few facts, one that this company is pretty much the only American company big enough to handle rebuliding Iraq and they sub contract alot. The only other company in the World is in France, so they do they want to give jobs to the French or do they want US citizens to have jobs. On another note most of their Lib leaders including Micheal Moore hold stocks in Halliburton. Hypocrisy at its best.

Islam taking over the world? What a joke. People saying that know the penny has dropped on the BIG LIE. 95% Media is jewish owned and that IS the truth. Americans are dying for israel; 9/11 was for zionism.
When the war crime trials start it will be Wolfowitz, pearle, Zakheim, kissinger, blitzer and traitors to USA bush/cheney/rummey twisting in the wind.

Before israel, all Arab countries wanted to do was sell the USA cheap oil.
I remember even in the 60s paying 25 cents a gallon.
Think about it.
It is time to dump AIPAC, and kick out all israeli/American nationals like Chertoff who support and are the real terrorist.

“Denying the fact that Islamic extremists want to destroy America and the rest of the civilized world in order to form their own Caliphate is the real insanity” Quote from Spock
Your remind me of a young Adolf Hitler when his views on the Jews were emerging.
How about you try reading books instead of burning them ?
History is my friend, ignorance is yours

Real Deal, I am the one who wrote “Denying the fact…” not Spock. I admit to ignorance when it comes to understanding the point of your comment, especially your reference to Adolph Hitler. My saying that the Islamic extremists want to turn the world into their own Caliphate is not my opinion; and certainly not my words (nor is it my prediction). It is the words of these Islamic extremists. It is what they preach to their flock and it is what they teach their children! If history is such a friend of yours, as you claim, then you should understand that attempting to appease someone whose sole purpose in life is to bury you, will only result in your burial.

Also Danley, I have posted an answer to your queries about US election fraud as seen by the world, but it seems to have been censored this hour past.
I guess I’ll be taking another screen shot of this page now before logging off.

@Spock making excuses for his rapist.
” Halliburton,………is pretty much the only American company big enough to handle rebuliding Iraq”
The Iraqi construction companies and etc who built Iraqi infrastructure in the first place and had made phenomenal progress since the last time the USA trashed the whole country, COULD AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN GIVEN THE TASK OF REBUILDING. Then you silly son of sam, you would long since have given them enough money for the job and it would probably be at least half finished. They did it last time, there is history to prove I AM RIGHT!
Instead you silly deluded sheepy, as it is now where the money is pouring into Iraq (in concept anyway) in billions and no discerbable result is to be seen. Unless you happen to be a Halliburton accountant or executive.

Rabbit, I am looking forward to your comment, as soon as Political Punch posts it.
But earlier you stated: “George Bush was NOT elected in the sense that Ahmadi Nejad was elected. ie: By a clear majority vote in a democratic and transparent election. International observers confirmed this.” I assume you are referring to Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the President of Iran.
You are correct, President Bush did not win the popular vote in 2000. But our founding fathers, in drawing up our U. S. Constitution, decided against determining our President and Vice President by a national popular vote. They instead decided on a system which is now called the Electoral College. With this system, each state has it’s own popular vote. While the names of the candidates appear on the ballot, the people of each state are actually choosing Electors (each political party nominates a slate of Electors). And it is these Electors who actually cast THEIR votes for President and Vice President.
If no candidate for President wins an absolute majority of the votes cast by the Electors, then the U. S. House of Representatives votes on the top three presidential candidates. Each state gets one vote. The states poll their respective House members and the candidate with the majority receives that state’s vote (if there is a tie, then that state abstains). The House of Representatives will vote in this manner until one candidate emerges with a simple majority. That candidate becomes the new President of the United States.
If no candidate for Vice President wins an absolute majority of the votes cast by the Electors, then the U. S. Senate votes on the top two vice presidental candidates. Each Senator gets a vote. The vice presidential candidate that receives the simple majority is elected as the new Vice President of the United States. HOWEVER if there is a tie vote, then the sitting Vice President breaks the tie.
There have been 4 occasions (1824, 1876, 1888 and 2000) where the winner of the national popular vote did not become President. The 1824 election was determined by Congress (as referred to above).

Rabbit, I did send a comment this morning that has yet to be posted. There have been occasions that I have had to click onto “Feedback” and request that my comment be posted (i.e. one of my earlier comments and then the one this morning). I’ll see if this is posted before the other one.

The petition signing at the VFW is very sad. Our soldiers want to be brave and they ARE brave. They go on fighting in the hopeless endeavour that Rove, Cheney, and their cronies have set upon them. This is the consequence of an administration that is AFRAID to ask of sacrifice from the country for this “war” (occupation). Supporting the troops means giving them 200,000 more young, healthy soldiers to “fight” door to door until the occupation weeds out all the insurgents. Or perhaps it is 300,000. Nevertheless, whatever the number is, THAT is what is needed, and THAT would take a draft.
But would it work?
If so, then instead of forcing our soldiers to endure this hopeless struggle, Bush should call for a draft or acknowledge the futility of the occupation and leave.
History repeats itself.

If anyone doubts the intent and the goal of the Islamic extremists, Google or Yahoo “Fouad Hussein.” He is a Jordanian journalist and author of the book, “Al-Zarqawi: The Second Generation of Al Qaeda.” Read about Fouad Hussein and what he reports and then judge for yourself as to whether the Islamic extremists’ threat is real or imaginary.
It IS my opinion that the history books (unless the gates of Armageddon swing open before then) will be very kind to President Bush. He will one day be hailed as a great visionary. One who tried to convince the world of the threat that these Islamic extremists posed to the civilized world but failed. One who demonstrated tremendous courage in putting national security and the survival of Western Civilization before party politics. Laugh all you want! The day will come that every Bush-hater will recognize their hatred blinded them from the real truth. Unfortunately, another day will come! But for far too many, there won’t be a day after!

Oh Rabbit Blind as the whole Liberal Hate / Blame America First crew.
Yeah the Iraqi group did real good building the temples for Hussein. Ah but just like all the Libs you respond with name calling instead of fact.
So as far as prospering lets see Mike Moore, Pelosi, Gore, Kerry, Clinton must be making money since they all own stock in Halliburton. UMMM Hypocrisy!

Hey Real Deal, First as already pointed out I was not the one who wrote that, but I do agree with it. I think you read it wrong, I presume he is talking about people ignoring the threat that the islamic terrorists is a danger, just as the libs ignore Hitler.
Kathy on a little note the cut backs to the military happened under Clinton, not Reagan who built it up. from Carter’s cutbacks.

If the problem is Islamic extremists who hate the freedom and licentiousness of the West, why aren’t they attacking Sweden … it not only has Christianity as a state religion but allows gays to marry!
There must be something MORE than mere “hatred for our ways.” Something MORE. Oh, what could it be?

Posted by: rewinn | May 16, 2007, 5:09 pm 5:09 pm

rewinn: “…why aren’t they attacking Sweden…”
Give them time!
There was an article in the Christian Science Monitor, by James Brandon, back on December 6, 2005, regarding the growing unrest within the Muslim community of Malmo, Sweden. He reported: “Bosnian authorities arrested a Muslim Swede in Sarajevo in October for possession of explosives while Islamist websites published several inflammatory but unsubstantiated claims in late summer that a mujahideen training camp has been established in southern Sweden.” He also reported: “…many Malmo Muslims are turning to increasingly radical forms of Islam…”
