Giuliani Doesn’t Support Present Immigration Bill
ABC News’ Jan Simmonds Reports: At an event Monday in New York City, Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani said he did not support the "present version" of congress’ Immigration Bill.
The former New York Mayor said he would like for there to be a system or database that would allow the government to "know everybody who is in the United States, who comes here from a foreign country".
"If you make that your goal then everything follows from that or leads to that," he added. "There should be a tamper proof id card, biometric id card that everyone who comes here from a foreign country should have. In order to make sure you identify everyone, in order to be secure."
Giuliani did hold out hope that through debate in Congress, the proper changes could be made to the bill.
"Let’s see what happens in the debates they have now, the Senate has to debate it, the House as to debate it," said Giuliani. "Let’s see if they can put something like that in, it that ends up giving us more security. The present version of the bill however … I don’t think that accomplishes that."
At the event Monday, Giuliani received the endorsement of the New York State Republican Party. Tuesday in Albany he is scheduled to be endorsed by state Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno, state Assembly Minority Leader James Tedisco and other GOP state lawmakers.

Rudy misses the the mark on the immigration bill. This bill will flood this country with overwhelmingly poor uneducated illiterate and unhealthy hispanics that will cost this nation trillions to support. The bill represents a worste disaster than 9/11 in that it will allow a full surrender to the Mexican government by allowing it to codify it’s defacto policy of alleviating the pressure against it’s own corrupt and evil policies of keeping it’s own citizens in penury. When 50% of the people polled in Mexico’s want to leave and come to the US that must be Mexico’s problem not ours. We must not enable that open sewer of a country to dump it’s human effluent onto our land while they laugh and flip us the finger. So be assured that any support of the Z-card instant legal status card aspects of this bill must be denounced as ruinous to this nation.

Rudy needs to take a firm stand against this bill! We need a secure border NOW, first and foremost. This bill is a disaster for the Republican party and for America. I am 100% for Rudy, if he will take the right position on this issue. Rudy will win the primary hands-down if he uses his voice for the majority of Americans on this issue. No amnesty!!!

I think our government is ignoring the true reality of the situation. When every economic indicator, think tank, 75% of the American people, and even the CBO says this law will devastate our economy, why do they ignore it in favor of their liberal corporate agenda? They’re either blind, stupid, or bought and paid for. In either case, Kennedy and his suck-up chronies are selling out America and we’re letting them get away with it. If they are successful in this grand fraud, then each of us deserves what we get for not finding a way to stop them.

“liberal corporate agenda”
Could there possibly be a more overtly contradictory phrase than that, “Tin”?
Also, what polls and economic indicators are you referring to?

I have supported the president all along but i do not support this immigration bill at all. I cannot believe he would want to allow the current illegal immigrants a chance a citizenship.
Send them home! Tighten the borders and they can come over here the legal way!
We don’t need to worry about the economy, if they want to be over here bad enough then they will come the legal way. It amazes me how illegal immigrants march around thinking they have a say when they are illegal. Amazing.

I respect Rudy immensely for his positions on foreign policy and his crime fighting measures implemented in NY, but I’m slightly concerned about what he considers important in this piece. The vast majority of Americans don’t support amnesty for illegals, yet he seems to indicate it’s okay to make them legal as long as we have this “tamperproof” ID card. That solves nothing! They still come here illegally, they still cost us trillions in government aid. I need to see a higher level of concern of how my tax dollars are spent than that for him to earn my vote.

I find it contradictory that Rudy says we need biometrics to keep track of people coming to the US from a foreign country out of one side of his mouth, while his law firm in Houston represents a Spanish company helping to construct the NAFTA highway which will allow unfettered access to the US. Biometrics? Yes, right. Give me a break.

Supporting any version of this bill is telling 75% of America “Don’t vote for me”.

The United Stated does not need to grant amnesty over an eight year period to over 12 million illegal immigrants. The U.S. is no longer a melting-pot. Mexicans have invaded the United States and each illegal costs American taxpayers $19,000 year. Illegal immigrants lower the standards for Americans performing skilled and unskilled labor.
People who want to immigrate legally from other parts of the world are discriminated against – Europeans, Russians, Asians, Australians, etc. A merit based system will kill immigration from other parts of the world regarding unskilled and skill labor positions. Employers who employ illegal immigrants need to be punished severely. Too many in this country want something for nothing. These people not only exploit cheap labor, they exploit U.S. taxpayers.

This is the defining moment for our country. I have been a staunch support of President Bush and Rudy but this is the end for me. No amnesty and no comprehensive invasion reform!

This immigration bill is a JOKE. We are Hispanic and DO NOT SUPPORT IT.
Under THIS BILL, NO ONE IS REQUIRED to become citizens of the U.S. NO! Instead, they are given PERMANENT LEGAL STATUS with the’Z’ visa, allowing them to reap all the benefits of citizenship, without having to swear ALLEGIANCE to our Great Country, pay any fines, or work for the betterment of America.
(In fact, my family knows very few Hispanics who could afford the $5,000 fine.) But why should they pay it?! After all, they will have kids in this country and their kids will have kids, and guess what….without paying any fines, they are ‘Americans’
In addition, this ‘joke of a bill’ gives all illegals FREE PUBLIC EDUCATION at both the state and local city’s expense; WELFARE, SOCIAL SERVICES, FOOD STAMPS, etc….roughly totaling $16 BILLION/YEAR….
Shall I go on?
In addition, no where in this bill, as far as I have read ….is there any mention of what each of these measures cost!!!! Typical INEPT CONGRESS… a nicely worded bill with NO SUBSTANCE…NO MEAT….NO MENTION OF WHERE THE MONEY IS COMING FOR ALL THIS.
