Kucinich Gains Support for Cheney Impeachment

ABC News’ Jennifer Duck Reports: Representatives William Lacy Clay, D-Mo., and Jan Schakowsky, D-Ill., are co-sponsoring a resolution by Rep. Dennis Kucinich, D-Oh., to impeach Vice-President Dick Cheney.

Kucinich, a 2008 presidential candidate, filed articles of impeachment against the Vice-President last month.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., has previously stated that impeachment is "off the table," and many Members don’t take the resolution seriously, going great lengths to avoid the impeachment question when asked.

However, Clay believes Cheney deliberately manipulated the intelligence process to deceive Congress and the American people.

"That deception has resulted in a tragic, unnecessary war that has already cost the lives of over 3,300 brave Americans and has cost the taxpayers over $400-billion. The arrogant abuse of power and the complete disregard for the truth needs to stop," Clay said.

Kucinich spokeswoman Natalie Laber says it may be just a matter of time before more Members come forward.  "As Members read the articles they may conclude that these are very serious charges that ought to be merited," Laber said.

Op-Ed columnist Richard Cohen, along with a majority of other political analysts, thinks the resolution will not pass. "The Congressman’s case is persuasive, although his remedy may be too radical," Cohen writes in Wednesday’s Washington Post.

However, Cohen believes Kucinich presents a "rational, serious accusation" in the articles.

"Kucinich is an odd guy for whom the killer appellation ‘perennial presidential candidate’ is lethally applied.  But he is on to something here," Cohen writes.

I really disagree here.
Yes, it appears that Cheney lied to the public, manipulated the press, manipulated and deceived the country into a needless and bloody pre-emptive attack on a sovereign nation that had never attacked the US, authorized torture, thus making him potentially indictable as a war criminal (remember Nuremberg? They hanged those criminals)
but come on — impeachment? Frankly, this strikes me as “a bit too radical a remedy” as the abc blog puts it.
Irony intended

Let’s see… impeach Clinton for lying about sex and that was of little importance in the grand scheme of things to the nation. The VP lying about a war that cost @3,400 lives… I think we have us a winner here. We need to set an example and show the nation that our leaders are accountable for their actions. Dick Cheyney may be a really nice guy (highly doubtful, but hey I don’t know him personally) but as far as lying to the American people, he needs to be held accountable.

I agree with Jeff
If you impeach for lying about sex, it makes no sense not to impeach for lying about a war that has cost so many lives and billions of taxpayer dollars.
Besides, the impeachment process is only to determine if there is guilt. As an American, it matters to me whether my friends have died and taxpayer dollars wasted because of a lie or even incompetence on the part of those who were elected to represent me. This is the process that exists for me to find out.
So, whatever the outcome, I would like to learn what happened.

McCain gets credit when he wears the un-deserved title of “rebel, independent candidate,” While Kucinich IS the real thing! If he were a foot taller he would be seen as a commanding leader.

I was so glad to read the super-intelligent comments left by others here. As Rush Limbaugh listeners have been known to say, “DITTO!”

It’s most unfortunate that d’louise’s comment is on target: f Dennis Kucinich were 12″ taller he would be seen as a commanding leader. We have become so shallow the majority of our citizinery only follow handsome, tall, fit matinee idols.
Cheney lied, Bush lied and Rice lied. Colin Powell admits he lied! It’s time to impeach these people. We have had 1,000 deaths of American Service Members since this time last year for those lies.
Impeach! Indict! Convict! Imprison!

Why isn’t it clear that we cannot wait for Nancy Pelosi to take impeachment “off the table”? IF both Cheney & Bush were removed, she would become President. This obviously puts it off the table for her. IT IS NOT OFF THE TABLE FOR THE REST OF US, ESPECIALLY THE LILY LIVERED DEMOCRATS WHO ARE SUPPOSEDLY REPRESENTING US. And I don’t buy the argument that there is no time. From start of impeachment to Nixon’s resignation was 3 months. Besides, the build-up for impeachment needs to continue to increase througout the last days, even minutes, if we are to return to a “rule of law.”

From a handsome, tall, fit matinee idol kinda guy (haha) would vote for Kucinich in a heartbeat and impeachment to end this administration’s reign of terror in their own right, as the evidence IS there already and for major prosecutions afterward.
My problem with him on the other hand is his stand on illegal immigration and wanting to give em all amnesty…which I’m against because of the race to the bottom our wages and bennies take with a large pool of very cheap exploitable labor ready for the taking…
Why can’t there be a candidate who wants to impeach/prosecute all involved in high crimes and misde’s in this adminstration and can get the illegals protected and deported while securing our borders and soft targets for the upcoming terrorist attacks by radical islamists?

At least someone has the guts to stand up for the American public. Too bad the news media is managing again to provide us with inane entertainment rather than real news.

There is a huge number of Republicans that let this resolution through. This element is also news worthy. We impeached Clinton for a personal family matter and spent millions thanks to K. Starr. Yes, Cheney and Co. should be impeached. Personally I would like to see the lot of them prosecuted for war crimes, and war profiteering. This country needs to wake up…and we need to take this country back. Impeachment is necessary here. ~ Dustin

WE NEED TO COME TOGETHER AS AMERICANS AND SUPPORT THE IMPEACHMENT. OUR MEDIA NEEDS TO PUSH IT! HEY AMERICANS….THE REST OF THE WORLD PERCEIVES OUR GOVERNMENT AS IMPERIALSIST WAR MONGOLS THIRSTY FOR A SICKENING SCALE OF POWER.

It truly amazes me. President Clinton gets impeached for a bj. cheney and bush are active criminals of the worst kind and few want to consider impeachment. When impeachment is really warranted, it isn’t used, but when a president has consentual sex, people frothed at the mouth in ecstasy and ran headlong toward a meaningless exercise in waste – to impeach President Clinton.
Amazing…
You know, the emperor really is not wearing any clothes people.

Impeach. and then take the President, the VP, and their mob to the International Court of Justice for War Crimes. Its no wonder this president removed us from that judicial body as one of his first acts as President.

tere is a chance for our country to prove that it is democratic after all!
Kucinich is 100% wright, but there are too many “democrats” who forgot the real mening of that word. Too bad that majority of us, voters for Democrats are falling on appearence, smooth talking and lies and giving our votes to more popular candidates like Hillary.
Kucinich is the wright man for badly needed change in our country!

THE BEST THING BUSH & CHENEY COULD DO FOR THEMSELVES AND FOR THE WORLD WOULD BE TO IMMEDIATELY RESIGN FROM OFFICE AND VOLUNTARILY COMMIT INTO PSYCHIATRIC TREATMENT. IF THEY DO THIS THEY MAY LIKELY BE SAVED FROM ARREST, TRIAL AND EXECUTION UNDER INTERNATIONAL WAR CRIMES LAWS. FOR THEY WOULD LIKELY BE PLACED IN CONFINEMENT FOR THE REST OF THEIR NATURAL LIVES ON AN INSANITY PLEA. . . . Since the Congress refuses to impeach Bush and Cheney because of their own guilt as accessories before and after the fact to the crimes committed, We need to seek involuntary commitment of Bush and Cheney as they both pose a real and demonstrated continuing threat to the world! . . . Sample forms for petitions for involuntary commitment of Bush and Cheney are linked to this site so that We the People can take action to seek a removal from office of Bush and Cheney on grounds of mental incapacity. With sufficient financial support to sustain legal proceedings in a court of competent jurisdiction, a class action petition will be filed seeking involuntary commitment of Bush and Cheney.
