Rice and Tenet Asked to Testify About Iraq WMD Intel
ABC News’ Kirit Radia Reports: A congressional committee investigating the botched intelligence that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction has rescheduled the requested appearance of Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on the matter. The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee said Monday it will ask Rice to testify at a June 19 hearing.
Committee chair Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., announced Monday that former CIA Director George Tenet, who has accused the Bush administration of politicizing intelligence about Iraq before the U.S.-led invasion in 2003, will testify at that same hearing. Tenet will also provide the committee with a private deposition prior to the hearing.
Waxman issued a subpoena last month for Rice to testify about her role in the intelligence which claimed that Iraq had sought to obtain uranium from Niger for a WMD program. The Bush Administration has resisted Rice’s appearing before the committee, citing executive privilege.
The committee has also asked current National Security Advisor Stephen Hadley, who was Rice’s deputy in 2003, to provide a deposition testimony prior to the hearing.
