Romney Tops NH Poll

ABC News’ Rick Klein reports: Former governor Mitt Romney, already leading in the latest Iowa polls, is now sitting on top of the presidential field in New Hampshire as well, according to the CNN/WMUR-TV poll released this afternoon. Romney, R-Mass., is the favorite choice of 28 percent of likely Republican primary voters in the Granite State, according to the poll conducted by the University of New Hampshire Survey Center. Rudy Giuliani and John McCain, who topped the survey in April with 29 percent, are both now at 20 percent, with Fred Thompson jumping from 3 percent to 11 percent. This points to an interesting dynamic in the Republican presidential race: Though Romney is placing fourth in early national polls, he is now polling first in the two early-voting states that have historically been the most important. Romney was also the leading GOP fund-raiser in the first quarter, and his early organizing in Iowa scared Giuliani and McCain away from a summer straw poll that was once viewed as vital to all Republican candidates’ prospects. Another interesting tidbit from the poll: 32 percent of respondents found Romney to be the "most likeable" candidate — the highest proportion among the Big Three — while only 19 percent found him to be the "most believable" — behind McCain’s 27 percent and Guiliani’s 21 percent. Could it be that New Hampshire Republican voters — who are intimately familiar with the former governor from the state next door — know about his shifting positions on social issues but don’t really care?

It doesn’t surprise me one bit. Romney is an incredible leader. Anything Romney does is at 100% and whatever it is turns out successful.

Mitt Romney is right on with his Immigration reform. I would like to see him and Colin Powell on the ticket.

It’s really interesting to look at the same poll before and after the GOP debate in NH.
Romney jumps 11 points, J-Mac and Rudy are both down 8 points. It seems NH voters know how to spot a winner!

The Republican race is going to be between Romney and Fred Thompson. McCain and Giuliani are both in the early stages of non-stop slides, mainly because they are so against the grain of the social conservatives in the Republican party. Social conservatives will be fine with either Romney or Thompson, but I assume it will go to Thompson in the end because he is a Southerner and Romney is from New England, and Republicans don’t pick Easterners — not since Dewey (the Bushes could pass as Texans).

Those online polls really do not reflect the American people well at all. I do not believe you should put much weight into internet polls. That is exactly why most people don’t consider Ron Paul as a viable candidate. If you want to read an interesting article on the subject go to…

Mit wants to double Guantanimo and start shotting of nukes. Good stuff there. Dukakis,Keery Mitt what is in the water up there. Thompson is a 20 yr backroom lawyer/paid lobbiest representing interest both foriegn and domestic. No need for any pass the envelope please OJT for him. No military experience/ avoided vietnam/ Lead lobbiest for MCCain-Fiengold. He’s divorced and remarried to a “girl” 4 yrs younger than his daughter??? Our new first lady?? Our moral compass Oh MY what is going on in this country??

Romney is right in almost every issue. The man has more leadership qualities than any other candidate. His I.Q. equals the rest of the GOP combined. The man make whatever he touches successful. I am impressed with Romney.

You’re judging a group of people by a few people. The Elders of the LDS church are in their 20s. Do you really think it’s fair to judge the church by a few of its members? I sure hope not, because whatever denomination you belong to deserves some bashing. The LDS people are some of the highest quality people you will find. I’m sorry about your experience, but please don’t throw stones at a group of people that aren’t deserving of it.

When I look at Romney, I see someone who has proven executive leadership experience. He’s someone who knows how to put together a top notch team. If Romney were president, I don’t think we’d have to worry about problems with cabinet members, attorney generals, or whatever. He picks people with solid credentials and proven track records. Look at the kinds of people he’s surrounded himself with! I also appreciate that he considers his family life a top priority and fought to preserve traditional marriage while he was governor in Massachusetts. It appears people in New Hampshire are seeing Romney as a strong leader and as other people get to know him better I think they will see the same thing.

Ok that’s fine, BUT again what does that have to do with Romney running for Pres? Are you going to make it equal and rip apart the Catholics for the transubstantiation? I don’t mind people having an opinion about a faith but I can’t stand when they bring politics into it.
