Kerry Rhyme Takes aim at Vitter

ABC News’ A’Melody Lee reports: A rhyming ditty created by Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., suggests the career of a peer in the Senate may be heading downhill.

At a Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee fundraiser on Nantucket last weekend, Kerry recited a five line limerick that takes aim at the conservative Republican senator David Vitter, R-L.A., who is at the center of a sex scandal.

A Democratic aide close to Kerry has confirmed to ABC News that he said, "There once was a man named Vitter / Who vowed that he wasn’t a quitter / But with stories of women / And all of his sinnin’ / He knows his career’s in the  — oh, nevermind."

Last week Vitter admitted "a serious sin" after his phone number was found on the records of Deborah Jeane Palfrey, the "DC Madam" who faces federal charges of racketeering for allegedly running a prostitution ring out of homes and hotel rooms in the Washington area.

A Democratic aide in attendance at the fundraiser tells ABC News that Kerry’s joke went over well and the whole room was in stitches. The clever rhyme may just make up for another attempt at humor – the "botched joke" he delivered to California students last October.

Kerry told students at Pasedena City College  they might "get stuck in Iraq," if they don’t "make the most" of their education and "study hard."

The comments did not win him any favors with military veterans who interpreted those remarks as derogatory.

This ‘fine’ individual came very close to being the President of the United States. Providence was looking out for our great country when that failed to happen. I give thanks almost every day.

“He knows his career’s in the — oh, nevermind”
I suppose Kerry would know *exactly* how that feels.

Wonder if he has any cute little ditties about his friend Teddy?

I’m trying to find where, in the story, Kerry finds himself “in trouble” over the limerick, but I’m not seeing it.

ABC: Thanks for devoting half the article to the “botched joke” non-scandal!
Please give us the whole history of Kerry’s comedy career, including the full lyrics of any “novelty songs” on that album he recorded back in high school.

i like it, kerry’s a funny dude. and anyone who “gives thanks almost every day” that kerry LOST the election is way out of touch.

So. . John Kerry goes into a bar and orders a drink and the bartender says, “Hey John, why the long face.” LOL!

Posted by: Chas | July 20, 2007, 2:08 pm 2:08 pm

What, exactly, is wrong with John Kerry developing a sense of humor? I think Vitter is fair game.

What can you say about a guy whose own mother had to remind him, before she passed on, “Integrity, integrity, integrity.” She knew him better than anyone.

Posted by: Chas | July 20, 2007, 2:11 pm 2:11 pm

John Kerry doesn’t need to be “developing” a sense of humor – he has been his own punchline for years. For a really good laugh, just ask him what he has done for Massachusetts lately – no not lately – ever. He is one dull, self inflated suit, who, as they say, married up. John does only for John.

Posted by: Chas | July 20, 2007, 2:16 pm 2:16 pm

Kerry’s limerick is clever, and accurate. He’s a better Senator than Vitter any day of the week, and it’s too bad that he was cheated out of the Presidency.

I loathe John Kerry, but good Lord…
Apples and Oranges.

This is about loose VITTER not Kerry….Vitter is a hypocrite pure and simple…they all are…show me an honest senator

Posted by: marshall | July 20, 2007, 2:29 pm 2:29 pm

Wow, Republicans are getting angrier and angrier by the minute.
Sheesh, grow up. Spoiled brats. You lost 2006 and you’re going to loose 2008 even worse if you keep acting like spoiled brats.

Not only was John Kerry cheated out of the presidency by an obvious dullard but that same dullard was able to cheat Al Gore out of his presidency as well. Isn’t that something how such an inferior man was able to “steal” the presidency, not once, but twice. Get off the Kool Aid. John Kerry has been a thorougly forgettable senator for Massachusetts -not even disputable. He such an invisible LT. Governor, that some in this state don’t even remember he once held that office. His only serious achievment was marrying into some serous money.

Posted by: Chas | July 20, 2007, 2:33 pm 2:33 pm

As much as I loathe Kerry, I have to admit that I LOL’d. However, that was more appropriate for the ‘hallowed’ halls of the Senate, or some other less public place than at a fundraiser. That’s the time to be a bit more professional. Ooops! I forgot whom the subject was.

Dear John,
After only 3 months in the wreck
You have 3 purple hearts about your neck
And not one record to confirm
That you were actually infirm
You have no moral authority to give someone else heck.

Why isn’t the blogesphere all over Kerry’s denial of the massacre after the US pulled out.

Posted by: Samantha McMann | July 20, 2007, 3:01 pm 3:01 pm

why would this land kerry in trouble? sounds like you guys want to frame the outrageous hyocrisy of yet another god and country republican as a loss for a democrat. vitter will eventually resign, along with the 30 other republican members of congress who flynt is going to out.

Posted by: michael | July 20, 2007, 3:06 pm 3:06 pm

Ugh,
If you’re going to write a weak limerick you should at least pay attention to rhythm and meter.

nitpickin’

Kerry made a funny! That is great. Nothing wrong with it. Vitter deserves all of it a whole lot more.

It’s pretty funny. What’s the controversy over, Kerry actually succeeding in being truly funny this time? I say, Bravo! Vitter gets what he deserves.

My My how the left wing democrats can get riled and gang up. If I were you (and perish the thought)I wouldn’t mention any Cintons when trying to impress us

At least it seems Nantucket is the right place to be making limerick jokes.

I like the fact that the morality police for the nut roots is the Hustler himself. Couldn’t be better. Its Kerry and Larry together again. Two souls with one brain between them.

Republicans continue to make fun of our soldiers and veterans. I suppose you revere 6 deferment Cheney and “made other arrangements” Bush while making fun of a Silver Star winner.
No change. I remember how the veterans came home after Vietnam and the wingers spat in their faces.

Look there’s Paris Hilton!
Zelda: You’re funny. Great satire!

Posted by: Chauncy Gardner | July 20, 2007, 4:48 pm 4:48 pm

Wingers worship draft-dodgers and make limericks about purple hearts. And then slap support our troops ribbons on their bumpers and traipse around town. Why should we even engage these morally handicapped people?
And btw, nice joke senator, you had me in splits. Now, can you do one about colonoscopy?

Posted by: horatius | July 20, 2007, 5:57 pm 5:57 pm

When was the last time the Republicans had a good a decent man to admire?
Bush Sr. doesn’t count. His parenting skills are in woefully inadequate.
Did ya see the montage on College Republicans? Whole bunches of young republicans supporting the war to the hilt…..someone else’s…not theirs, they have no intention to serve.
Republicans don’t serve…they just criticize those who do.

Kerrys A Poet

And I didnt even know it. ABC News AMelody Lee reports: A rhyming ditty created by Sen. John Kerry, DMass., suggests the career of a peer in the Senate may be heading downhill. At a Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee fun…

I’m not a big fan of Kerry but if any of you seriously think we’re better off with Bush as president, then not only are you on crack, but you’re supportive of treason as well. He uses the constitution as toilet paper on a regular basis, he admits to breaking the law with impunity, his administration outed a member of the CIA striclty for purposes of vengeance, which is something his own father calls treason, etc….. Wake up. I just wish Kerry would have shown some of this sparkling wit when he was running- maybe it would have helped him out a little. (And no, I’m not blindly Democratic, either. This country is desperately in need of some third parties that actually DO represent we the people…..)

John Kerry would have been the relief we won’t have until we see the last of the damage done by this corrupt administration. Bush is a dumb, stubborn liar who does not come close to John Kerry’s honor and integrity in any way – none. Bush has caused great harm to America and to Iraq. He deserves to be removed from office for being incompetent and evil. Vitter is a hypocrite and he will be the butt of lots of jokes because he deserves to be.

I didn’t know that Ms. Heinz had bought a sense of humor for her husband. ; )

Here’s my two cents (rip away):
To face, a cold, satisfied grin
Appears on both women and men
When the other side falls
Or otherwise stalls
But the joke remains sadly on them.

There is something seriously wrong with a married man preferring a potentially disease ridden prostitute to his wife. But, if you are a Republican, you apparently do not realize this. Presumably, the forgiving geniuses in Louisiana will re-elect him, just like they re-elected that idiot Nagin. This country sure does need a house cleaning!

Posted by: A Viet Nam Vet | July 21, 2007, 2:06 pm 2:06 pm

Vitter is a an idiot. Senator Vitter’s constituents are imbeciles.

Posted by: Manuel | July 21, 2007, 11:54 pm 11:54 pm

That was low John. You should keep yourself above that kind of talk. Don’t stoop to their level of rhetoric. Anger will get you nowhere with that crowd.

Posted by: cliff jones | July 22, 2007, 1:39 am 1:39 am

There once was a senator
named Vitter
A man once proud and
not bitter
but astray he was led
by his other little head
and so his life wound up
in the sh##er

Posted by: Chas | July 22, 2007, 11:49 am 11:49 am

Kerry is a joke himself. A wimp who couldn’t beat his way out of a wet paper bag. An absolute nothing until he married into money thanks to Ms. Heinz. Vitter apologized and asked for forgiveness from his wife. What else do you want him to do? Kerry also supports the other US Senator from Massachusetts

Posted by: Rob | July 22, 2007, 8:51 pm 8:51 pm

Egad! It’s that goober named Kerry
With limericks he can make merry
But that face!…so distended
since his campaign was ended
at the hands of the Swifts and Bob Perry.

Posted by: Bingo | July 23, 2007, 5:30 pm 5:30 pm

In an effort to prove he is “fair and balanced”, will Sen. Kerry now compose a limerick about Sen. Kennedy?? Frankly, I believe the “Sen. Vitter limerick” was written by Kerry’s wife, because it smacks of the foul-mouth trash she spewed during his election campaign! The Senate should call for one of two votes, to agree with this ignoramous, or publicly censure him. And to think we could have had this no class idiot as President!! SCARY!!

The best part of this story is that Kerry was speaking in Nantucket, of all places. That’s priceless!

Posted by: Nick307 | July 25, 2007, 12:02 am 12:02 am

Really wanted to write a limerick but its damn hard to find a word that rymes with Chappaquick!

” Providence was looking out for our great country when that failed to happen.”
It never ceases to amaze me at the number of Republicans who quite freely express their dislike of our country and our troops. Can anyone honestly say that our country would have been worse off with responsible and competent foreign and domestic policies?

Posted by: Tammy Stickers | July 25, 2007, 1:09 pm 1:09 pm

The Democrats in this country are already practicing the foreign policy
of France…..SURRENDER!
