Libby Sentence Commuted

Good decision. Why put him in prison when drug dealers walk free?????

Commuting Libby’s sentence accomplishes the same thing as a pardon, keeping a crook out of jail. Impeach the crook in the White House for obstruction of justice!

Bush has officially jumped the shark. I can’t wait for his reign of terror to come to an end.

Can’t the president still pardon Scooter Libby at the end of his term?

BTW, he SHOULD have been pardoned. Bush only partly did the right thing. Libby won’t spend time in proson, but his life is still ruined, and for nothing.

Why are we shocked about this commutation of Libby’s prison sentence. Dear Bush’s Conscience bothered him, knowing that it should have been him and/or his vice president going to prison…..Americans, the Supreme Court, stacked by Daddy Bush, made the son, Bush President of the USA. The people didn’t. Therefore, why are we surprised by the lack of scruples exhibited by the Son, Bush, who calls himself President of the USA?????

This is the letter I wrote to the White House today:
To whom ever gets this e-mail,
I am neigther a Democrat or a Republican, but rather a citizen who votes for whoever I believe is the best candidate, and lately for the party that is least corrupt. Right now – that is not you – not the republican party. I am disappointed and disgusted by the pardon the president has given to Scooter Libby. I have nothing against Mr. Libby or either party, but the man was convicted of a perjury in a court of law – he broke the law.
But as has been the case to often in our government lately – loyalty to the president is put above what is best for the country – or in this case what is just.
I will vote Democrat in the next election because of this – and will encourage my entire family and all my friends to do so as well – not that I assume they are less corrupt than you – but you and the Republicans have now lost your turn in my eyes.

Ok America1 Wake up for the 08 elections. This administration and everyone in it, is above the law. Name the category and it has been violated right under your nose. This is very disturbing right from the lies to get us into war and the civil liberties that have been violated without our knowledge. I am a Democrat and am not to happy about their progress, but the oversight hearings and the under handed meetings that have taken place by administration officials is remarkable. Whether it is dimwit Cheney and him not a part of any of the branches of our government or the dimwit Gonzales with the AG’s office, this is almost unbearable to say that I live in a the best country in the world. I do not know how much more the American public can take, but it would be in your best interest to go to the polls and make a hopefully better change in our politics. I would like to criticize the Democrats as well for not stopping the war and other things. You have to keep in mind that investigations are for everyone’s benefit against both parties. High gas prices, pardon’s Etc. Where and when does it end?

How can you commute a sentence of a man who does NOT plead guilty? Libby has acted as an INNOCENT man from day one. Is this just another BUSH justice systems as coached by Gonzales? Justice by political party. If i ever LIE to a prosecutor can i claim that is ok per the President Bush Doctrine?

The President has done what should be done. A distracting and rediculous case will soon be gone from the headlines and the President’s detractors can now get busy trying to impeach him for exercising the powers he enjoys as the President. When will the elected few in Washington get busy and pass some of the legislation we sent them there for instead of motivating legal wrangles intended to embarrass or discredit each other?

How low can he go? His poll numbers are under 30% and he’s got another 567 days to continue screwing this country up. The only thing I find enjoyable about this administration is watching his poll numbers sink ever lower. Other than that, it’s been a tragedy. A real tragedy.

What is wrong with this President? Libbey was found guilty and yet George W Bush commutes his sentence! This was a serious crime as the judge regarded this punishment. This precedent of committing perjury under oath and not serving jail time was something that Bill Clinton imitated. “I did not have s_x with that woman”. I’m British and let me start by saying I am very aware that we do not have an ideal system. A real life queen is our head of state after all, and it’s 2007!
But if a British prime minister were to commute the sentence of one his administration’s closest aides, he would he hounded out of office.
I know, I know – it’s different in the US. The president is the head of state and has the power to commute. Our prime minister is not, and does not. But that’s kind of the point – Bush can only do this because he has that power, and he is abusing that power. It is simply unthinkable in most modern democracies for this kind of corruption to take place. It’s disgusting, and it was very fitting that Bush spent the weekend with President Putin of Russia. The two men have a lot in common when it comes to leading from the gutter, putting cronyism before justice, personal interest before national pride.

Bush now thinks he’s prosecutor, judge, and jury. We all better watch out or he is going to rewrite the constitution without us. Can he just override everybody? That’s not the way I learned American Government! Somebody soon better look into how much he really is controling!

This is just another example of the President and Vice Presidents disregard for the Judicial system. They consider themselves above the Law and they have the power to ignore the other branches of the government wether it be the senate or congress or for the that matter, the american people. Anyone who says that no crime was committed has no concept of the issue except for how to make a post on this website. The man leaked the name of an undercover CIA agent to the media in an act of political treason. He should share a cell with whoever gave him the OK for the leak.

What is the point in having a judicial system comprised of judges and juries if King George can dismiss a conviction? Frankly, I think the only reason he hasn’t been impeached yet is because Cheney is next in line and that is probably the worst of these two evils.

Scooter was a loyal public servant. Dick Cheney lost a good man when Fitzgerald went after Libby for political reasons. Talk to a “Special Prosecutor” long enough and you are bound to commit a crime (obstruction or trumped up perjury).
Hell, even James Carville, pitbull for the left, wrote a nice letter to the court on Libby’s behalf. Some of you smell blood and attack, if we could just train you to stop eating our own and kill the enemy we would be well served.
They should give Libby the Medal of Freedom. He deserves it. He did his job and he did it well. Plame is not to blame for her husband’s diahrea mouth, but one can’t expect not to get a pink slip when one is in the intelligence business and her spouse spend’s his day jacking his jaw about the leaders of our country. How covert can that be? What kind of cover is it to have a diplomat husband trashing the administration on every move they make?

Ass appalled as I am over Bush commuting Scooter’s sentence, I must say that it was expected in some way, and after reading some of the comments the only thing I can say is I weep for the future. Could he be any more of a criminal, no, could Bush be any more of a lap dog for Cheney, no. Could we as a nation be any worse off than we are now, no.

I think the people drawing comparisons between Clinton and Libby forget one thing: Clinton lied about cheating on his wife something we had no right to ask in the first place. Libby lied about outing a CIA covert operative. Last time I looked having an affair was not against US law while outing an agent was.
We were going to a pool with the person guesing W’s rating at on 1/20/09 winning but too many people wanted to take zero.

Thank you GW Bush for your courage and doing what is right. Few people writing here or these democrat news wires actually know what Libby was convicted of or the circumstances of that conviction. Even today I heard NPR (gag) describe VP as an “Under Cover CIA Operative”. Give me a break! Although she is somewhat of a hot piece and Rush has already said he’s interested in her physically, no law was broken and in fact she and her nit wit husband told far more lies then anyone else involved. All along the democrat media was reporting what they were told to report. Meanwhile news of sitting rep democrat Jefferson William and his freezer full of $90,000 bribe money get buried while nonsense like the partisan Libby case gets front page attention for months. Pathetic.

I’m not at all surprised, but I am – yet again – disappointed. I knew Bush couldn’t ‘pardon’ Libby, because a ‘pardon’ legally requires remorse on the part of the convicted. My Libby, apparently, believes he is innocent and has NEVER expressed ANY remorse for ANY of his actions. No fears for those w/ whom Ms. Plame worked in a covert way and no fears for any ongoing covert actions, or at least none outside of the VP’s office.
Although I was never in the courtroom, I followed pre-trial and trial closely. The Court went to great lengths to impanel an impartial jury and be VERY careful to avoid any decisions which could become grounds for appeal (and did a good job, hence forcing Bush’s hand today).
Where’s my country going? Where’s it gone?

The villian in this case was Patrick Fitzgerald. He knew from the beginning that no crime had been committed with respect to outing Valerie Plame. First and foremost, there could have been no crime because Plame was not a COVERT CIA agent within the meaning of the law.
Knowing this upfront, Fitzgerald pursued his investigation hoping that he could trap someone in a false statement. This is a violation of prosecutorial power. Do we really want this kind of witch hunt in our political system???
Let’s say that Hillary does win the White House in 2008. Do we want a special prosecutor to investigate conduct which he knows up front is not a crime with the hope that he can catch one or more of Hillary’s appointees in a lie?
For those posters that believe that Libby compromised national security, I suggest that you read the history of the case before you remove your foot from your mouth.
We just saw a rogue prosecutor, Mike Nifong, disbarred and removed from the DA’s office. A similar fate should be faced by Patrick Fitzgerald for his vile conduct in this case.
