Tony Snow Takes ‘Heat’

ABC News’ Jennifer Duck reports: White House Press Secretary Tony Snow took some "heat" during the press briefing Friday for his explanation on why the Iraqi parliament is taking a month-long summer vacation.

ABC News White House Correspondent Martha Raddatz asked Snow if the Iraqi parliament still plans to take the month of August off, given the government’s "unsatisfactory" political progress cited this week in the administration’s Iraq report. The next Iraq report is due in September.

"It looks like they may, yes, just like the U.S. Congress is," Snow responded. "You know, it’s 130 degrees in Baghdad in August. I’ll pass on your recommendation."

Raddatz fired back, "There are a lot of things that happen by September and it’s 130 degrees for the U.S. military also in Iraq."

Snow then said, ""You know, that’s a good point. And it’s 130 degrees for the Iraqi military. And the Iraqis, you know, I’ll let them — my understanding is at this juncture they’re going to take August off, but, you know, they may change their minds."

Snow appeared to downplay the administration’s September Iraq report, saying, "It’s not a September deadline, it’s a September report," but he assured reporters, "I’m not dismissing it. No, it’s an important report."

And another Bush bud bites the dust. Everyone that comes in contact with Bush get dragged down to his nasty, insulting level. He is like poison ivy, he is a blight to everyone. Tony Snow used to be a pretty decent guy. Now he is just another smart-mouth Bushite.

Funny no mention from Ron of how Tony Snow has to deal with condescending, mocking questions, being interrupted repeatedly, etc. by a room full of journalists much ruder than he ever or any press secretary in any Administration is.
Of course Ron sounds like another deranged internet leftist troll so who cares?

As the wife of a United States Soldier, who by March will have spent 2 1/2 years of the last 3 nearly consequtively in Iraq, I absolutely thank Ms. Raddatz, for saying EXACTLY WHAT ALL OF US WERE THINKING, when Mr. Snow made such that idiotic and uncompassionate statement. Please keep speaking for us Martha, I beg you!

My husband is also deployed to Iraq and we miss him dearly. After watching a recording of the news tonight, I had to find this article online to make sure I heard the report right. I continue to be shocked by this administration’s insensitivity. I cannot thank Martha Raddatz enough for being our voice in that room today.

Hats off to those Americans making the sacrifice during the summer heat in Iraq. Shame on Bush/Snow for their weak, disgusting explanation (excuse.)

Tony Snow is a very compassionate guy. I do think it is inappropriate for the vacation, but that has no relevance to Snow’s character.

My husband is in Iraq now. This is his third deployment in support of the Iraq war. The base he is stationed at in Iraq has not had running water for over 3 weeks. They shower with 2 bottles of water every other day. In 130 degree heat.
Why doesn’t Tony Snow and the White House care about our troops suffering in this heat as much as they do the corrupt Iraqi parliament?

tony snow was once a respected journalist, but now he has become no more than than a lying puppet for the white house, and who creditablity is forever lost through the lying he is spreading for the white house

I feel sorry for Tony. Everything that comes out of his mouth has to first transit Bush, Cheney, and Rove’s intestinal tract.

What is wrong with these people! They will never get it. Tony Snow this does not become you. You were a decent journalist now you are a puppet. Why would you do this?

Army Wife this, Army Wife that… As the dad of an Enduring Freedom vet, I’m positive that my son knows exactly what he signed up for. Didn’t your husbands? Funny, too, that my daughter-in-law (an Army Wife herself) seems to have made it just fine, and will do so again if her husband is redeployed.
As for the Maliki government… sometimes you just gotta step back, get back to your constituency and talk to the people. Just because they’re not meeting in session doesn’t mean they’re all off to Club Med for a month. Don’t you realize that it exactly the ability to go back and visit with a CONSTITUENCY that is what our soldiers are there to provide?
Stop yer whining’. Get off of this administration’s (and Tony Snow’s) back.

stop your whining — I’d expect more from such a compassionate guy like yourself.
