Brownback: ‘Third is a Ticket on Forward to the Caucus’

ABC News’ Alyssa Kim Reports: He finished behind Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee at Saturday’s Ames straw poll, but Sen. Sam Brownback R-Kans., showed no signs of defeat. "It’s not over," said Brownback Sunday on This Week with George Stephanopoulos.

"I think Mitt Romney has probably hit up on top of his ceiling, and I think I have got a lot of room to grow and be able to introduce myself to a lot more people."

Speaking from Ames, Iowa, Brownback touched upon the qualities that differentiated him from the other candidates, namely his foreign policy experience. When asked if he would consider a draft, he quickly rejected the idea, saying it is not the solution for Iraq.

"We don’t need a draft," Brownback said. "The key issue here is getting a political solution in Iraq so we can start pulling our troops back from the frontline."

Brownback also presented his idea on how to reverse America’s unstable economy, saying corrupt lenders should be better targeted. "I would not come in with some sort of bailout of the sub prime lending market," he said. "I don’t think that’s the answer we should do. I don’t think that’s the way we should move forward from this point in time."

Looking ahead to the caucuses, which may start as early as December, Brownback took an optimistic approach. "I guess I will do my Christmas shopping in Iowa," he said.
