Gains for Romney, Poll Shows

Our partners over at USA Today’s On Politics blog report: A new national Gallup Poll shows Mitt Romney moving into double digits and third place for the Republican presidential nomination.

The former Massachusetts governor is at 14%, behind Rudy Giuliani (32%) and Fred Thompson (19%).

Romney was at 8% and fourth place in Gallup polls in July and early August. The latest, taken Aug. 13-16, shows Romney’s favorable rating jumping from 22% to 33% over the past two weeks, and his unfavorable rating dropping from 31% to 24%

Exactly tumbleweedin. I remember the ABC/Washington Post poll that was recently up showing Romney in the lead at 26% of the vote…problem was, the poll was in no way scientific because they had only polled 402 people! What a ridiculously small sample size…Where is the data for this poll?

Sounds fishy to me too.

Listening to Romney, I find he’s articulate, optimistic, has strong leadership skills. His entire family supports him which says a lot. Brownback and Paul also have believable messages, but face it, they aren’t going to win. After Iowa, I knew Romney would catapult higher in whatever the poll. Why not?

The only poll that counts is the one on election day.

Mike Huckabee and Ron Paul were the winners in Iowa relative to time and money spent there. Romney was for abortion and socialist medical care in MA but now opposes those things.

Come on now, how can you believe a poll that puts Fred Thompson so high up? 1-He hasn’t even decided to run yet, 2. If he did, no one would vote for him, he has the laziest, no-show record of all congressmen. The only thing he has is celebrity name recognition from being a second-tier actor on Law & Order.

I totally agree with the polling numbers. I am amazed at the turnaround just here in my Texas community concerning support for Mitt Romney. Many of us previously were interested in seeing what Fred Thompson had to say, but now realize that he really doesn’t have the organizational skills to pull off a successful campaign. He just seems too slow and plodding on so many levels. Mitt Romney seems to have the intellect, focus, energy and integrity that will be required to handle all of the challenges our country faces ahead. None of the other candidates (Republican or Democrate) come close to having that same level of problem solving skills. I really believe that as people get to know him, Mitt Romney will be the candidate to beat come election day.

Finally, a man rising in the polls that I am not afraid to have my sons look up to. More than a politician, I want a leader. A leader who shows that a man’s family life must be in order prior to fixing anything else. Go Mitt. For the sake of my children and my children’s children, your example as a father will live on for generations….

Mitt was in Daytona Beach last week and wowed a standing-room-only crowd. All of us observing the political scene closely have noticed he is easily the most articulate among the candidates, with stands on issues that would resonate with most Americans. Don’t be fooled by some who criticize him for changing his stand on abortion. We all evolve in our understanding of many things through life, and this was not different.
Hey, he won two straight straw polls in Iowa and Illinois. Fred Thompson cannot decide on whether to run or not, but it would be nice to see him and Romney in a future debate, if he can make up his mind about running.
Paul, Brownback, Hunter, and Tancredo ought to drop out. The first tier is now made up of Rudy, Fred, and Mitt. John McCain probably has no chance of resurrecting his fading campaign.
Watch out for Mitt!

Can’t wait for Romney to get the GOP nomination. I’d love to have another devote religious type continue the tradition of destroying our country, sending the nations children as sacrifices abroad while they’re own stay here and do their patriotic duty by campaigning for daddy.
Let’s not forget about getting the rest of the world focused on wiping us out like the current group has already been doing so successfully. Let’s continue that policy MITT!!!

It seems the biggest thing going for Mr. Romney is his checkbook and support of the Bush family. If he is nominated could the plan be a ROMNEY/BUSH ticket? Jeb Bush this time? Out of 300 Million Americans I feel for the establishment when they have to go to the same ole, same ole to carry their dirty laundry.

Would like to see a Romney/Huckabee ticket. The only credible pollster is Rassmussen, an the reason that I can say that is his track record. Also, the MSM ignores his polls. That should tell you something.

Who cares if each of the votes in ames cost $1,000. For all of the media attention he received as the clear winner, it was a great return on investment. It showed that he could orchestrate a campaign that Guiliani and McCain were afraid to compete against. As for Ron Paul, if his wife had not fallen ill, he would not have received any mention.

“These Republicans sure do love their family loving draft dodgers.” – obviously this hypocrite has never heard of a fellow by the name of Bill Clinton!

I can’t believe these poll numbers. Guiliani #1. A man who got a law judge to defer him from service in Vietnam; has run for offices as a democrat, an independent, a conservative and a republican; called himself “the agent of change”; appointed friends Harding & Kerik who eventually were indicted and imprisoned; started Guiliani Partners, a firm whose leader ended up in prison because of fraud scams; lobbied for Citgo & the makers of Oxycontin; conflicts with Fox News,(investments & wife working for Fox while Fox sponsoring presidential debates); appointed member of Iraq study group, never attended meetings, asked to resign; supports Alan Placa, former priest and child molester and Guiliani employee, Guiliani refused to fire him; not to mention three marriages, plus affairs and then his statement regarding freedom, quote “Freedom is not a concept in which people can do anything they want, be anything they can be. Freedom is about authority. Freedom is about the willingness of every single human being to cede to lawful authority a great deal of discretion about what you can do.” Then we have Romney who was for abortion then against abortion; was for gay rights, then against gay rights; wife who can’t remember what she was for, or against; members of a so called religious cult, according to those of other faiths. Then we have Thompson who leaves the Senate with $378,000 of peoples donated campaign money and promptly pays the largest part to sons company who has no phone, no address, and no employees. A man so adept in political shrewdness he has to pick “Miss Pork” to show him around the Iowa fair. Come on ‘Repubs’, you can do better than this can’t you? I know Bush is a hard act to follow, but give us a break, find someone who can be a leader.
