McCain Calls for Craig Resignation

ABC News’ Bret Hovell Reports: Sen. John McCain became the first prominent Republican to call for the resignation of his Senate colleague Idaho Republican Larry Craig saying that "when you plead guilty to a crime, then you shouldn’t serve in the Senate."

McCain’s comments came in a Wednesday interview with CNN’s John King where he also clarified that his position wasn’t a moral stand.

“That’s not a holier than thou. It’s just a factual situation,” McCain said. “I don’t try to judge people. But in this case, it’s clear that it was disgraceful.”

Craig pleaded guilty in court documents at the beginning of August after a June arrest for disorderly conduct in the bathroom of a Minneapolis airport. In the plea papers, Craig stated "I’m pleading guilty" to "physical" conduct that tended "to arouse alarm." Craig entered that plea "freely and voluntarily."

Who cares what Mr Craigs sexual orientation is. The issue should be that public sex acts are not now nor never have been legal. Solicitation is not legal. Penalize the guy for the right reason.

Moral Corruption in Politics is a wide spread situation, this problem did not start with Bill Clinton. It is a problem in all levels of government. Senator McCain is asking Craig to resign, then says it is not a moral issue. It is! but if McCain is right, then why ask Craig to resign? Seems to be a big problem in society today, No sense of Christian morals.

Let’s run this by a jury before we get judgmental. An appeals court should review this “plea without benefit of counsel” and all things considered I think he should have an attorney for the trial. There is NO evidence. There is only the testimony of an officer who has had the opportunity to see this old guy pass through the terminal on a weekly basis for many years. Now just before an election why not harvest a hated politician? Disorderly Conduct? An awful lot of Senators have gotten pretty disorderly at times over the years. There’s no justification to use the “A-Bomb” on them.
