Myths and Misses
We take a look today at the Watergate mythology that his built around former Sen Fred Thompson, D-Tenn. — READ IT HERE.
And in response to news that 17-year-old Caroline Giuliani was, at least according to Facebook, a fan of Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, we chatted with her brother Andrew Giuliani (READ THAT HERE)…

Obama Backs Off Birth Control Battle?
Let me quote a time-honored maxim, slightly changing it to something more appropriate for Mr. Thompson’s benefit in his ongoing effort to polish his resume to a high gloss: “Those who do not know history are condemned to read a rewritten version of it.”
The behind-the-scenes facts of Watergate clearly show that Mr. Thompson was a minor player there, and only stumbled upon the scandal of Nixon’s tapes. For him to assert that he was protecting Nixon’s image, or somehow defending Nixon against a far-too-liberal press (and does that charge sound familiar?), is simply contradicted by the facts. Other than his minor role in Watergate, Mr. Thompson’s career as a senator was largely undistinguished. I must admit, though, I especially enjoyed Nixon’s characterization of the then-senator and soon-to-be savior of the Republican party’s presidential hopes in 2008.

I’ve heard and read some pretty nasty diatribes handed out by Nixon in the Watergate years. So if “not too smart”, and “kid” are the best he could do at the time to trash Sen. Thompson, I would say that puts Thompson in the Mensa category. If it was, as was reported, Sen. Thompson’s staff that uncovered the White House taping system in preliinary, non-public interviews, then I suppose Thompson deserved to ask Butterfield the incriminating question in public. If I were Sen. Thompson, though, I wouldn’t try to stretch the truth about my “heroics” from the late 60′s or early 70′s—–that didn’t work too well during the last Presidential election for a certain Senator from Massachusetts.
