Biden (P)rebuts the President

ABC News’ Brian Wheeler Reports: Delaware Senator and Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden held a “prebuttal” presser today ahead of President Bush’s primetime speech where he charged that "it is the president’s time and his responsibility to answer a question that general carry out his policies in Iraq could not answer."

"Is pressing ahead with the war making America safer? Based on everything we heard this week from the President’s surrogates and everything I have seen and heard during my eight trips to Iraq, the answer is no.” Biden said.

Biden also took a swipe at his Democratic rivals who voted against the last Iraq funding bill, or who have argued for defunding the war since: “So long as we have any troops left in Iraq, we must treat them with care, not disdain, and give them the best protection this country can provide…if a soldier spends a single day in Iraq, he should be able to ride in the Mine Resistant vehicles I’ve been fighting so hard to build.”

Biden has said a number of times that voting to fund the troops is his responsibility, so long as any remain in Iraq.

The Delaware Democrat’s Iraq vision also earned him the endorsement of Iowa House Majority leader Kevin McCarthy (D-Des Moines).

"Iraq is by far the single most important issue facing America today and Joe Biden has the most credible plan to get us out without causing further chaos,” McCarthy said at an event this morning.

Biden has received endorsements from 8 Iowa state legislators, second only to Hillary Clinton’s sixteen. He’s also close to a sweep of the IA House Majority Leadership: 3 of 4 assistant majority leaders have endorsed Biden as well.

I agree with Congressman McCarthy regarding Joe Biden’s plan. Furthermore, he is the most intelligent, learned and heartfelt candidate that I’ve heard. His experience has as Chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Comm. has ‘forced’ him to gain a comprehensive knowledge of the Middle East, theologies, philosophies, habits, etc. That alone puts him far above any other D or R candidate who is running. Perhaps a Biden Pres. with an Edwards VP is the optimum choice. I believe that the other candidates all have their hands in someone else’s pockets.

Biden’s words are as hollow as George Bush’s.
Continuing to fund the war is the same as supporting the war. Blathering on about not supporting the war while funding the war is typical of the Democrat party and why they are going to lose big time in 2008.

Bush’s devious plan worked. He ordered 25,000 troops into Iraq for a surge. He now says we could withdraw those 25,000 by next year. That is just down right pulling the wool over his supporters eyes so he can continue the war. They don’t keep track of whats happening and he knows it. He appears on TV for a sound bite that says we are withdrawing troops. Thats all they hear so it sounds good; Echoes of Karl Rove.

What this nation needs–especially the Republican party–is old fashioned “Whigs” like Abraham Lincoln !
And I doubt that the present Republican candidates measure up !
Maybe a good old-fashioned True Conservative Democratic Candidate, with guts like Harry Truman and convictions like William Jennings Bryan, can ! ? ! ? ! ? !

What the GOP “leadership” needs is a good old fashioned a** whipping.
How the GOP has idly stood by while the Bush crime family loots the US Treasury is beyond me. The Bush crime family represents everything but conservatism.

One paragraph does not explain the Biden plan. Not mentioned, but critically important is his plan to reduce the role of the central goverment and split up Iraq into a loose federation. The people of Iraq are loyal to their clans. Except maybe for soccer, they have no national identity and have no interest in forming one. The boundaries of the middle-eastern countries were set by the Europeans during their imperialist days, and they were convenient for the them, but not for the people of the land they controlled. In order to fix the middle east, we need to fix the problems created in the 19th century. So far, only Sen. Biden has come up with a plan radical enough to have any promise of success.
