Edwards: Less Glitz and Glamour, More Hammer and Nails
ABC News’ Raelyn Johnson Reports: Sen. Barack Obama has Oprah, Sen. Hillary Clinton has her husband Bill, and now John Edwards is hoping he can bank on you alone.
“Instead of offering you a fancy dinner or photo-ops with celebrities, we’re giving you the opportunity to create the change we need to see in this country,” said Edwards of a new contest he’s launching to give a few supporters the chance to rebuild Katrina ravished homes.
Beginning today through the end of September, people can enter their names in a drawing for the chance to help rebuild an area devastated by Hurricane Katrina along side Edwards. At the beginning of October, five winning names will be selected.
While the campaign says no contribution is necessary to enter the drawing, when you register online you are directed to a page to donate. And the end of Edwards’ contest happens to coincide with the 3rd quarter fundraising deadline of September 30th.
All of the candidates will be making a final dash for cash this month but Edwards’ latest appeal is trying to prove his road to one America isn’t paved with gold. His contest comes after Sen. Obama was the recipient of a star studded fundraiser hosted by Oprah Winfrey over the weekend, and one lucky Clinton contributor will get to have to lunch with the Senator and her husband, the former President.

Edwards is bashing those candidates who offered “a fancy dinner” but he is doing the same thing. In fact, he’s copying Obama’s idea with a different twist, then acting as though he invented it all. Just don’t like Edwards sequel to the white house.

The only sequel to the WH is Mrs. Clinton who cares not where the money comes from – just let it come. If it had been John Edwards who received this tainted money, you can bet the Media would have a field day with it. Kind of makes the “haircut” shrink by comparison doesn’t it?

Based on Edwards domestic policy positions, including the advancement of socialized medicine, this headline is better read: Edwards, More Hammer and Sickle.

Who does Edward’s think he is that he needs to give us “the opportunity to create the change we need to see in this country.” That opportunity is there for all of us, we don’t need to win a contest while giving him money to be able to help the victim’s of Katrina. If you want to help, join AmeriCorps or one of the other organizations that is sending teams down to that area. Don’t just cross your fingers and hope to win a political fundraising scheme disguised as a contest.
