Huckabee Hits Thompson Again

ABC News’ Mary Bruce Reports: With Fred Thompson set to formally announce his candidacy for president on Thursday, Mike Huckabee sent an elbow in the direction of the former Tennessee senator. "I’ll put it this way: I’d rather run on my record than on his record," the former Arkansas Governor said in a "This Week" interview with George Stephanopoulos.

Huckabee also sought to point out the differences between his record and that of Thompson. "My record is somebody who hasn’t had a Washington zip code. I’ve not been a Washington lobbyist. I’ve not been a United States senator. But I have been a governor. I have actually run a government."

Huckabee has been hoping his campaign can pickup some stem since placing second to Mitt Romney in last month’s Iowa Straw Poll.

When asked about Thompson’s likely campaign pitch of being the only "consistent conservative" candidate in the race, Huckabee said "in fact, I think that’s one of the reasons that maybe he’s delayed….if he’s looking for a consistent conservative that would be Mike Huckabee."

Earlier in the week in an interview on the Christian Broadcasting Network Huckbaee attacked Thompson’s record in the senate. "There’s not a substantial record in the Senate in him having authored the landmark signature bill that changed America.
