MoveOn.org: Petraeus will Betray-Us
MoveOn.org took out an incendiary NEWSPAPER AD against General David Petraeus in today’s New York Times.
Read more about it HERE…
A Democratic leadership aide on Capitol Hill told me that the ad was "not helpful" because it allowed Republicans to refocus attention from "what’s happening on the ground in Iraq and the fact that everyone, even Gen. Petraeus, agrees that political progress is lacking."
Republicans are, indeed, jumping on the ad and calling for Democrats to decry it…
So far no word yet from the press aides for Clinton, Obama or Edwards…all of whom are normally quite quick on the email….
What say you?

UPDATE: Obama’s, Clinton’s, and Edwards’ campaigns did get back to me — their responses are all included in the dot-com piece I linked to above.

Moveon is a traitor group and any Democrat /lib who receives donations from them or talks with them is the same.
They are giving aid and comfort to the enemy with free propaganda.
Any Dem who does not denounce them should resign from office NOW!
The Times should close their doors also.
Take away their tax free status NOW also.
Cowards they are!!

The only thing more ridiculous than that ad from MoveOn is the way that Republicans are using it to be hysterics — ignore and it goes away, make an issue out of it and yet again both the Republicans *and* the Democrats end up looking like idiots who cannot be told apart from one another…

Shame, Shame, Wear your colors of political preference on your sleeve, see what happens.
New videos of Bin Laden? NOT! thats no more Bin Laden than Bush is a real leader. Besides if Bin Laden was still alive, his own followers wouldn`t be wondering where he is! As long as he is portrayed as alive Bush and the administration can still use the terror game against the US citizens.

It’s hard to believe that the major Dem candidates didn’t know of and at least tacitly approve a $65,000 ad in the NYT that had to be sold, composed, and page-laid out in advance. I’m more convinced when I read their cookie-cutter comments on Move-on’s insulting slander–sluffed off to the Dem candidates’ spokespeople. Anyone should react to that childish, disrespectful ad the way Republicans have–the Dems knew that–so they could pre-fabricate their insipid arguement that the G.O.P. would be reacting with ‘hysteria’ and trying to shift focus from the General’s testimony. That’s hilarious. The Dem candidates—NOT A ONE OF THEM—mentioned anything the General said–again, leaving so important a subject to their spokespeople. They just made some meally-mouthed mention of the General’s patriotism–then repeated their favorite cut-and-run talking points. No matter what the facts say, ‘we know better’, ‘Bush is desperate’, and even, ‘a military solution is not possible’. To me, this was planned disregard of Gen. Petraeus’s report with a planned face-slap by radical Libs (the Move-on ad) to turn the day into a circus that they knew the major media would buy into. To get into an objective, fact-based discussion of Gen. Petraeus’s testimony would have been the honorable thing to do–but honor is something that Move-on, and the major Dem candidates apparently know nothing about.

I think it’s funny that in all the media coverage of this ad that not one mainstream journalist that I found even took the time to do a factual analysis of the moveon ad? If it’s BS, then prove it. Just don’t write stories stating the obvious responses from both sides. This kind of reporting just sucks.
IMO, Moveon is over-the-top because they know it draws eyes and increases the spread of their message. Right-wing media and its politicians talking about, is only going to increase its exposure. Even more reason for a journalist to fact check exactly what moveon is claiming in the ad. Don’t you think abc?

I completely agree with Matt: the ad was designed to call attention to MoveOn, especially to give the conservatives numerous opportunities to self-righteously denounce the ad (are you out there, spock?) all the while giving MoveOn free publicity. Unfortunately, the ad simply inflames partisanship over a matter which should not be partisan, but which has been made even more so.
I, too, would ask the question as to where the independent verification is of the claims MoveOn made in the ad. It seems a rush to judgment to decry the ad as inflammatory without independenly verifying its claims, doesn’t it? Rather than report on the all-too-predictable responses from either political party, why not just report on the accuracy of the ad itself?

I didn’t see any of you Republicians crying when the “Swift Boat for Veterns” blatently lied about John Kerry’s record in Vietman, so don’t start crying now about something that makes you guys look bad!

Jeff–oh, please. The Swift Boat ads WERE funded by a big GOP donor. The ads were partly misleading. Kerry DID pull a guy out of the water while his boat was under fire. But he also DID stretch the truth about his wounds–one of which he later admitted WAS self-inflicted–and amassed enough purple hearts to get out of Vietnam early. The ads had a political, not righteous purpose. That was all Kerry wanted to talk about, because an in-depth discussion would have shown that, while he did act bravely at times, he also pulled a string or two to get out early. No comparison to Gen. Petraeus or Move-on. The people who were outraged over Move-on’s ad include GOP’s and Dems–and outrage isn’t whining or crying. It’s just outrage. And it’s warranted.

Moveon is affiliate of George Soros, whoi gives it its orders first of all, Second he is the order giver to Obama and Edwards. And questionable with Hilary (but I doubt it) The Dems knew about it and they gave their blessing, see moveon is an arnm of the Democrats, who hate our Military, look at the disrespect they gave this General, that proves that they support the message.
When was the last time a moveon traitor was in Iraq?
Jeff – As far a the Swift Boats, ah They were truthful, Kerry never proved anything they said was wrong, he refused to hand over his Military and Medical Records. The men that wrote the book were all heros from Vietnam. So please tell me where the lies were, since Kerry seemed not to be able to?
Oh thats right Libs do not like Heros, they like only knowing who Brad and Angelins’s kids are.
JB – Um so if Bin Laden is dead then you should be Praising President Bush.
Kerry is a traitor to this country which is proven from his speeches now and during Vietnam (listen to them)
It is about time the Republicans took a stand against the Democrats Treasonist attacks aginst our Great Men and Women of the Military.
