Thompson Blasts Columbia University

ABC News’ Christine Byun Reports: Republican candidate Fred Thompson maintains that, if he were running the country, he would deny Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad entry into the United States.

According to UN Headquarters Agreement of 1947, the US "shall not impose any impediments to transit," obligating the US to allow representatives of UN members, or those invited on "official business," to visit the UN. However, the government may bar entry based on national security grounds, but would have to provide specific allegations for banning Ahmadinejad.

"There are exceptions to every rule. This is our home soil," Thompson asserted on Bill Bennett’s "Morning in America" talk radio show Monday morning, adding, "I wouldn’t mind a little controversy at the United Nations."

Ahmadinejad — who arrived in New York Sunday — is to speak at Columbia University Monday. Thompson criticized the school’s decision, claiming it shows a "double-standard" because, he says the university does not allow ROTC on campus.

"It’s supposed to be a place of diversity and controversy and things of that nature … but they’re giving rank hypocrisy a bad name," Thompson said.

For a Republican Presidential Candidate who hails from the State of Tennessee, where Conservative Democrat Albert Gore was once Senator, and then hails from Hollywood– I´d say that he sure is putting the Liberal-Republicans and Leftist-Democrats on a run at Columba University !
Thompson is the most palatable Republican Presidential Candidate so far–a cross between Abraham Lincoln and Willian Jennings Bryan.
If he wins the Republican Presidential Primary–he sure has my vote as a Republican !

While Bush has tampered with the Constitution, Thompson will continue in the same vein by ignoring agreements our nation signed and vowed to uphold. If the U.N. is held captive to American dictates, then how can it even be given any credibility when implementing International Law in the world? This man is a politician first, and he will bow to the emotions of the public before upholding honorable laws and agreements our nation is bound to abide by. I WILL NOT vote for this man in in official capacity… he’s a sellout!!
