McCain Accepts Mormons as Christians

ABC’s Bret Hovell reports: Senator John McCain, R-Ariz., said that he does not question many Mormons’ self identification as Christians — one day after expressing uncertainty about whether or not Mormonism was part of Christianity.

"That’s fine with me," McCain told ABC News Wednesday. "I certainly wouldn’t question that. At all. If I intimated that I did, I certainly didn’t intend to do so."

"I respect the Mormon religion," McCain said. "I’m not an expert on the Mormon religion. I don’t know enough about it to make a judgment. Except I respect the Mormon religion and I don’t think that the fact that someone is a Mormon, that that should be held against them in any way."

That last line is a reference to McCain’s rival for the Republican nomination, former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney, who is Mormon, and identifies himself as a Christian.

On Tuesday, speaking to reporters from a newspaper in Spartanburg, S.C., McCain was asked if he considered Mormons to be Christians.

"I don’t know," McCain said to the Spartanburg Herald-Journal. "I respect their faith. I’ve never frankly looked into the Mormon religion."

"I’ve known a lot of Mormons who are wonderful people," he said, adding that he doesn’t not believe Romney’s Mormonism should not be a factor in choosing a President.

I`m not an expert on the Mormon religion either but why do the Romney kids and their father refuse to serve in the military? They have said they support Bush`s war or is their support like Bush/Cheney`s Viet Nam war support-they cheerlead while real patriots do the actual fighting and dying.

The GOP candidates are starting to attack each other now. Reminiscent of the 2000 GOP primary when Bush attacked McCain as being a traitor. Between McCain and Giulliani, I don’t know who is the worst. Do they devour their own young too? After the primary, then it will be time to launch their dirty attack crusades on the Dem nominee. Look out Hillary – here they come in full attack mode baring their teeth, growling, snarling, foaming at the mouth, and biting if they get close enough! Some things in this world do remain constant.

Mormons don’t read the Christian bible so how can they be Christians?
I’m worried about McCain. I’ll bet he’s already promised to give them Utah.

What a compromising hypocrite!! Mormonism is not Christianity. True Christianity is based upon ONE BOOK, the King James Bible. Mormonism is based upon five books, plus the old prophet.

Mormons accept, believe, and study the Holy Bible. They also have additional scripture that is another testament of Jesus Christ from the inhabitants in the Americas whom Christ visited after he was resurrected. Mormons are Christian. If you want to educate yourself about The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormons) go to lds.org.
The fact that Romney is Mormon/Christian should not play a part in his or any other candidate’s campaign to be the leader for this great country.
I prefer someone who will uphold the constitution and who will restore my freedom and liberty that we are all quickly losing. I prefer someone who will allow me to help others because I want to and not force me to thru taxes and laws. I prefer someone who is honest and who has integrity.
I’m voting for Ron Paul 2008!

Mormons are not Christians. They deny the trinity and say that Jesus was the spiritual brother of Lucifer. They also believe that we will become Gods which goes against the ten commandments. The Holy Bible warns us to not be fooled by those who say they have received revelation from an angle. It says that it is false doctrine and to not believe it.

Mormons contradict your version of Christianity;not the people.

Oh! I meant we don’t contradict the Bible. We contradict your interpretation of the Bible. By the way, where did you get the authority to judge who is Christian or not. You all remind me of the self-righteous Pharisees. Maybe you all are modern-day Pharisees.
