American Airlines, Tampa to New York

Packed in like veal here in seat 24-D, on my way to ABC News HQ after the totally interesting and very contentious GOP debate last night in St. Pete.

We covered the debate for Nightline, GMA, and on dot-com.

You can watch our GMA spot HERE.

What did you make of it all?

I definitely give the edge to the republican debates for entertainment value. My favorite moments, not covered in the dot com report, were:
1) McCain, looking statemanlike and showing his absolute disdain for Romney and his position on waterboarding and torture, citing the Geneva convention, something with which one imagines Romney has little familiarity.
2) Guiliani paying respect to people of the Islamic faith.
3) Guiliani getting booed for rejecting a literal interpretation of the bible.
4) Guiliani getting booed for suggesting that the govt impose reasonable restrictions on gun regulation.
Oh and I’m surprised no one is talking about Romney’s response to black on black crime. Did no one notice that the questioner appeared to be a father living up to his paternal duties, ie he and his son posed together for the question? What a slap in the face Romney’s answer was. Does a black man forfeit the right to police protection because other men who share his skin color are statistically likely to walk away from their paternal responsibilities? And isn’t there some hypocrisy there – Romney deriding black men for not fulfilling their paternal responsiblities, while not addressing the state’s obligation to protect its citizenry.
