Hubbard White House Departure Marks Sixth in Six Months

ABC News’ Ann Compton Reports: A senior administration official this morning confirms for ABC News that Alan Hubbard, for three years head of the National Economic Council here, is departing.

"Al Hubbard has been a wonderful colleague and a valuable contributor to the President’s economic policy for nearly three years.  We will miss him."

In the event of the usual explanation (to spend more time with kids), it’s worth noting that both Hubbard’s children are in college, one about to graduate in fact.  This is the second senior staff departure in two weeks — on the heels of Homeland Security Adviser Frances Townsend; the sixth departure of a senior staff member in six months.

White House Chief of Staff Joshua Bolten had asked the staff to let him know by Labor Day in September of plans to depart before President Bush leaves office in January 2009. But several have resigned in recent days — most of them to return to more lucrative careers in the private sector. For instance, Al Hubbard owns prosperous companies in Indiana and intends to return home.

Instantly the phrase “rats leaving a sinking ship” comes to mind.
In this case, some day when the congressional investigations take place and the watered down results come out, who will go down in history of not doing the job they were elected to do but instead, did what they did in office for just self-interest.
Get out now boys and girls, the voters might be sheep most of the time but they also have a tendency not to forget all the time!

The GOP Corporate Meat Puppets now acknowledge the writing on the wall: “The constitutional raping of WE THE PEOPLE will no longer be tolerated.” Keep packing losers. Inauguration Day will be our Independence Day!

With the exception of Janet Reno, nearly Bill Clinton’s entire cabinet resigned before his term ended. Were they abandoning ship or is this just the norm?

Bush is reaping what he and Cheney sowed these last 8 yrs. He will definitely go down in history as one of the worst presidents of all time and one that never really listened to the majority of the American public.

Can we put some ankle monitors on these “rats”, because when the impeachments and indictments go down, I want them found!

His economic policies and advisory has been well observed, specially lately

This is nothing new. Of Clinton’s original 14 cabinet members, only 4 remained until after he left office after two terms. Alan Hubbard here is only an “advisor” not a cabinet member. In fact, Clinton had four (4) Secretary of Commerce appointees. The first of which was Ron Brown who died in a plane crash (guess we’ve forgotten Bill’s crying act at the funeral). I’ve yet to hear of a Bush appointee “dying” before deciding to move on. Only Janet Reno (Attorney General), Bruce Babbit (Sec Interior), Donna Shalala (Health & Human Ser), and Rich Riley (Sec of Education), 4 of 14 were with Clinton at the end. This is nothing new guys. Don’t read too much into it.

It is not just his White House people/cabinet members/advisors who are leaving. Look who is leaving the House and Senate. I read a comment about Lott, that he does not like being in the minority so he is going home. BOO HOO If he thought that he was in the minority now, just wait until the next election. This has been the WORST administration EVER as far as I am concerned. KING George and PRINCE Dick need to leave. They have ruined this country. The $ is dropping around the world. The Canadian $ is worth more than the US $. It takes nearly $1.50 to buy a EURO now. Is no one paying attention?

Yeah, I never have liked Lott either. It’s good he’s leaving. There are a lot of clowns on both sides and some in between. History may indeed not look favorably on Bush’s administration, but I think Carter’s was worse both domestically (18% mortgages/runaway inflation and especially foreign policy. Read up on him and see. Try to keep an objective point of view. Notice I didn’t call him a “clown”. I think personal insulting labels are inmature and add nothing to the debate. I do remember the 1980 campaign when Reagan was running against Carter and someone had a sign that said “why not an actor? We’ve had a clown for 4 years”. It was a pretty clear choice back then. I don’t think the country is ruined. Keep the faith we’ll survive this administration too.

I have a question… Is it possible for Bush to pardon these guys for future indictments? Because if it is, I bet his sorry butt does it. So many people in this administration need to go to prison for the things that have been done.

Rachel, Interestingly enough yes. Under Article II Section 2; “The President … shall have power to grant reprieves and pardons for offenses against the United States, except in cases of impeachment.” So first they would need to be impeached! Like Senators and Representatives. I’ve never heard of a presidential advisor getting impeached though. This dubious distinction has alweays been reserved for constitutionally elected officials. I suppose Bush would lose the power to pardon if “HE” were impeached. But I’m not sure I understand who you mean by “these guys”? With the recent exception of Libby (whose pardon I personally disagreed with), no one has even been indicted much less convicted of any crime. If something comes up later, by this time the legal process could never get it done before Bush was out of office. So it’s kind of a non-issue at this point. The point is that people who support the president resign all the time. Usually for personal reasons (sometime when they get in trouble). This article implies that there are resignations because they want to distance themselves from Bush. I think this is probably slanted.

Ah, more Rats following Biggie Senator Loot’s departure. A little traveling music if you please.

I’d just like to know what “prosperous companies in Indiana” Al Hubbard owns.

How many left the Clinto regime in the waning days of HIS presidency?

Hey all you Bush bashers, this is my final post on this subject. Apparently, Clinton’s ship had some “rats” that left too. The point is this is normal stuff and to infer otherwise is slanted journalism.

Can’t wait until Bush and Cheney leave, the sooner the better. The world will be a better, safer place when these morons leave office. So much damage has been inflicted on the US by these two criminals.

always bashing bush. the dems remind me of a kid that if they cant have it their way they will take their ball and go home. wait and see if a dem gets elected this country will go more downhill than when clinton was in office. and as for the war, clinton had chances to stop this before it ever began but was to busy trying to keep himself out of prison and chasing women. but how fast we forget

Did you say Clinton could have stopped this war….ha ha ha ha…you would be the first to say Clinton is going after Saddam just to take heat off himself for SEX SEX SEX SEX….

Truth Hurts, OK one last post on this. I didn’t compare anything about what Clinton DID and what Bush DOES. I was simply trying to pointed out that presidential staff and cabinet resignations is a normal part of presidential administrations. You missed the whole point!!! If you could ever get past your blind anti-Bush ranting and name calling of anyone you perceive as disagreeing with your point of view, you might have picked up on the discussion.

Bush deserves daily bashings for all the damage he’s done to this country. His supporters hopefully will wake up and realize their blind support for the worst President ever,is a huge mistake.
