Gingrich Predicts Obama in Iowa
ABC News’ Ed O’Keefe Reports: Newt Gingrich predicts Barack Obama will win the hotly contested vote in Iowa, saying the junior Senator from Illinois will motivate more energized supported than the former First Lady.
"My guess is Senator Obama’s going to win Iowa and that he’s going to win it by a surprising margin," the former Speaker of the House told ABC News’ Diane Sawyer on "Good Morning America".
WATCH THE FULL INTERVIEW HERE. And catch up on all the latest in politics in The Note.
Obama, D-Ill., and Senator Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., will soon roll out the "charisma brigade", dispatching mega-surrogates Bill Clinton, campaigning for his wife, and Oprah Winfrey, making a first and rare foray into the political arena on behalf of Obama, whom the talk superstar has endorsed.
"I think Oprah Winfrey is a remarkable figure," Gingrich told Sawyer, "I think she brings a, not just a celebrity status, but there are millions of people who trust her judgment."
Pressed on whether the Oprah-factor would "tip" the nomination toward Obama, Gingrich replied, "I think it’s a significant asset to (Obama) and he’s not married to her."
"I think there’s a double-edged sword when President Clinton shows up because he also reminds you, do you really want two presidents in the White House? And do you really want Mrs. Clinton to have to rely on President Clinton to have to win?"
In the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll, shows a tight race in the Hawkeye State with Obama at 30 percent over Clinton at 26 percent, and both former Senator John Edwards, D-N.C., and Governor Bill Richardson, D-N.M., trailing with 22 and 11 percent respectively.
Perhaps more significantly, ABC News’ Polling Director Gary Langer points out that the poll also showed "most Democratic likely voters in Iowa, 55 percent, say they’re more interested in a "new direction and new ideas" than in strength and experience…a help to Obama, who holds a substantial lead among "new direction" voters."
"I have a hunch," Gingrich told Sawyer on "GMA", "that the emotional energy that Senator Obama’s building is more powerful than the emotional energy Senator Clinton’s building."
The former House Speaker said he has "great respect" for Senator Clinton and the Clinton "machine" but went on to add, "It just seems to me right now, in Iowa at least, Senator Obama’s building a really heavy steam."

Obama is going to destroy hillary in Iowa. Look at the 2nd choice numbers.
hillary has very little support behind her first choice voters. Obama is the overwhelming 2nd choice for Democrats in Iowa.
He will also win NH, and SC. It will be interesting because she won’t give up and then it will come down to who’s better organized in the other 47 states.

I think Oprah should move more lightly in the background in support of Obama. I think what she is doing will backlash. People are not ready to accept celebrity opinions as their deciding factor in their choice for president. Oprah should run if she wants to get that much into the political arena, and I think she could muster lots of support for herself.

I used to actually care at what Newt had to say until he pulled his sham on his Conservatives of possibly running for President, only to sell his workshops. Forget you Newt! Don’t care what you have to say anymore!

Although I would never vote for either, IMO Obama is the more honest of the two. The Clintons reek with dishonesty and if HRC is elected, we will be more divided than ever.

So another Republican hack is giving ammunition to the Obama campaign… doesn’t it raise the least bit of suspicion? Maybe the Republican’s want to face Obama in the general because he has not been properly tested or vetted in the Democratic primary. Imagine how badly the Republican party will slaughter Obama…inexperienced is probably just the tip of the ice berg. Obama supporters are latched on to an IDEA of what they describe is “hope.” Ideas can only take us so far– get behind a real supporter with experience–Clinton, Biden, Dodd, anyone BUT Obama… what a joke. If Obama is nominated we won’t stand a chance in the general… Obamaites, don’t ruin this for all of us.
Posted by: TexasDem | November 27, 2007, 9:50 am 9:50 am
If Obama is the nominee it won’t matter how divided we are because we won’t stand a chance against ANY Republican. Need I remind everyone of the Harold Ford Jr. race in Tennessee? Voters are likely to agree that they’ll vote for a black candidate, but that it will never materialize in any primary, especially one as white as Iowa. Wake up and smell the coffee. We need someone with experience not a green politician who is calling on a talk show queen for support… give me a break.

Gingrich is a fool. I’ve never seen anyone more intent on predicting everything but all he does is blow with the wind. Hillary was a lock to be President, according to Newt, then it was 50-50 after a poor debate performance. Now that she is slipping in the polls she is going to lose be a surprisingly wide margin. This idiot reads the latest poll and then parrots it as his “prediction.”
Posted by: Joseph | November 27, 2007, 9:58 am 9:58 am
For the first time in my life I find myself agreeing with Newt. I wonder how skewed the polls are by unrepresented people who do not have landlines in their homes, who consider their cell phone as their primary telephone, and have not been polled. I am convinced that this group of unpolled voters is both younger and will probably vote in greater numbers for Obama than either HRC or the GOP candidates. If I am correct this statistical anomaly will be even greater in state contests with larger urban areas. I hope I’m right Go Obama!

Obama winning in Iowa would be no great surprise as Hillary is by far the most distrusted candidate out there on the liberal side.

We’re supposed to take this from the architect of the republican/conservative Contract for America? He had a hand in making rich people richer. Obama might be a good president but there’s the experience thing. Actually both Obama and Hillary lack the experience thing when it comes right down to it. Both are relatively new senators. We need change but we need somebody really strong who will stand up to a divided congress and push through the American people’s agenda (healthcare, immigration reform, tax cuts for the middle class). Make the rich pay a higher % of their income and lift the cap on Social Security. These are challenging times and the economy, gas, healthcare and immigration reform are at the top of the agenda. Don’t allow Republicans to tow the War on Terror and values crap. We’ve had enough of that fear-mongering over the last 8 years

TexasDem…polls show Obama ahead of Hillary. That seems to be a no-brainer at this point. You just spit nails at Newt because he’s a Republican, which makes you a biased blogger, and have no validity of intelligence behind you. Newt may not be my favorite person, but he is extremely intelligent when it comes to politics.

We don’t actually see much about them in the news are far as policies are concerned, but we do get plenty of news on the just teh mechanics of the race.

I’d rather see Hillary stay in the Senate as Senate Majority Leader. Who ever becomes president on the Democratic side, I hope selects Bill C. to be either Secretary of State or Ambassador to the UN. And to reserect the Clinton economic team. We need this to at least start cleaning up everything that GW has destroyed in the last 7-8 years.
And my first choice is Edwards, my second is Obama and my 3rd is anybody not Republican.

Why does anyone listen to this man? I don’t think it will change anything if Obama wins this time. Hillary will still get the nomination. Oprah can sell books but I don’t think she can influence the way people vote. I for one would never vote for Obama or Edwards.

I for one cannot wait until Obama begins winning early primaries and takes the Democratic nomination!! Otherwise, if Obama cannot win the primary – lets bring back Bill!

I hope Newt is correct. Because if he is, that will give us (republicans- God’s nation loving people) and easy shoo-in for the presidency. Because God knows we can’t nominate anyone of any merit this election. And as far as Oprah’s involvement goes… She wields millions of votes as the “talk show queen” and what she is doing is not only un-american but just plain dangerous. I mean this is an election for the leader of our nation and the free world. NOT a popularity contest.

Edwards will win Iowa. Go on to win the nomination.
All this talk about Obama and Hillary is just some sort of smoke and mirrors campaign.
The nominee always has been a “white man in a suit”. The USA is on way too shaky ground for the voters to go away from the norm.

It does not matter whom the Democrats vote for in Iowa if they end up running HRC in ’08. The only way they can win is if they can get a Moderate/Conservative third party candidate ala Ross Perot to split the center right voters. Remember Bill Clinton never got over 46% of the vote (42% the first time over Bush). If we look at Ohio and Forida (which will probably decide the election once again). Over 50% of LIKELY VOTERS consistently say they would NOT vote for Hillary Clinton under any circumstance.
If I were advising the Democrats, they should be urging Bloomberg to get in the race as an Independent. That’s the only chance they have if the choice is HRC.

There were two polls yesterday that pitted Hillary versus her potential Republican challengers. One was an ONLINE poll by Zogby that found Hillary trailing Republicans, the other was a poll from Gallup that found Hillary beating all Republicans by substantial margins.
Which do you think got more coverage?
As of about 9AM, the Zogby poll was covered on TV news 15 times and the Gallup poll was mentioned twice – by the Hillary campaign’s Mark Penn and Ann Lewis.
The Gallup poll showed that if Hillary was the nominee she would beat Giuliani by five points but if Sen. Obama was the nominee the race would be tied. Gallup also showed Hillary beating John McCain (by 6 points), Mitt Romney (by 16 points) and Fred Thompson (by 13 points). Hillary also leads all Republican contenders in Real Clear Politics’ poll average.

Obama went to school at a Maddrahs (sp?) or Muslim school. The Saudis have globally set up these schools to spread an intolerant strain of Islam. America is insane if they want Hillary or Obama. Obama’s veep could be Bin Laden. Edwards is a slimy ambulance chaser but he would be a better option than Hillary or Obama. Chris Dodd or Biden are even better.

The uptighty righty press will have a field day with a Clinton Campaign. They will open up the dusty vault of innuendo, half truth, rumour, and unsubstantiated accusations.
Though they can fault Barack Obama for perceived weakness, like “experience”, he can deal with it. Hillary will mobilize all the right to vote. The Neo Cons, radical right wingers, the religious right and their press will rise like no other time in history to fight her. Even though their leadership is bailing out on them because their ship is on fire they can win. Barack Obama is respected and loved by many Independents and Republicans. He can break the deadlock and partisan politics that has kept Congress inneffective.

What a load of garbage. Edwards will win the state, for cryin’ out loud. The handwriting is on the wall.
One poll among polls which are poor indicators of voter sentiment in Iowa does not a winner make. Obama has squandered millions, while Edwards until recently spent virtually NO money there and was still in a statistical tie.
Everything else is trash, but the media desperately want to make it a race between a 40-state loser (Clinton) and a 50-state loser (Obama).
It’s transparent.

I do not want to see the US Presidency continue to be a ping-pong match between the Clinton and Bush families.
It is indeed time for some new ideas and approaches and there is no way we can get that from a Clinton.
I voted for Bush but would be happy to vote for Obama next time. There is no way I’m going to vote for Hillary. I am not at all alone in this.

Hilliary is DONE. She will lose the first three states but hang on a while until she is finally put to rest, hopefully, once and for all. The counrty is DOME with the Bush/Clinton era for good.
She should not be the first female president. It would be better for the gender to wait for a truely honest, sincere person with a good heart. That is what most females represent and is their shining quality.
The nominee will be Obama, although, I think that Biden is the BEST candidate for the Dims. If I wasn’t GOP, I’d consider him. I watch all of the debates, both sides and he is a clear standout for experience, gravitas and personality. He is actually pretty funny, when he’s not angry about something. I really like the guy, I just don’t agree with all of his positions. I think he’d protect America in a heartbeat, which is my #1 concern.

As an Iowan, I assure you that in this late stage of the campaign, we’ve more than had our fill of the candidates and their celebrities. As the latest Zogby poll shows with Hillary getting beaten by all five of the leading Republican candidates, Democrats are beginning to more seriously consider the possible general election match-ups/outcomes. For this reason, Hillary’s poll numbers will now begin to decline and Barak Obama’s won’t be far behind.
Posted by: sps91158 | November 27, 2007, 11:14 am 11:14 am
It’s about time Obama started getting some positive press. I agree with Newt, Obama is building a movement. Obama’s experience is equal to Hillarys, it’s his wisdom and fair mindedness that makes him the better candidate. Dick Chaney and Donald Rumsfeld had lots of experience, where did that get us??? Obama has been in public office alot longer than Hillary, and he’s lived his life with a lot of integrity. In this election I think wisdom will trump Washington experience. Obama 08

Clinton is truly less experienced than obama. The whole time she was hosting parties in the white house bubble, obama was in office in illinois doing plenty for the good people of that state. To say he is inexperienced is a shot in the mouth to state assemblymen and loval civic leaders everywhere. Experience won’t be the key to beating republicans. It will be the ability to attract voters from accross the aisle. Hillary has zero ability to do that. We know that. Obama is the only one with that potential.
Posted by: josh | November 27, 2007, 11:17 am 11:17 am
sps91158 – The Zogby poll was done online, I participated in the survey. Online voters are more likely to skew toward Obama. In addition, the survey is opt-in, not random, which means diehard liberals are a large piece of the pie.

Texas Dem:
That Gallup poll you mentioned that shows Hillary leading the GOP candidates was conducted Nov. 11-14, 2007 — old data — alot has changed since then. The Zogby poll was much more recent, conducted Nov. 21–26, 2007. It showed Hillary trailing all top 5 GOP candidates while Obama was leading them. Sorry Tex, you can’t get away with spinning this one.

Obama can be elected and independents and some (former) republicans will be happy to vote for him. Obama has more or as much experience than Giuliani, Thompson, Romney, or Huckabee. As an independent, I would most like to see Obama vs. Huckabee for the general election. I’d vote for Obama at this juncture, but I’d be swayed.
Clinton vs Huckabee, no question, it’s Huckabee from what I’ve seen. Obama over any other republican. Huckabee over any other democrat.
Clinton? Never.
Posted by: Dan,TX | November 27, 2007, 11:23 am 11:23 am
I hate to say this, because I like the guy a lot.. but the republicans will eat him up and chew him out in the general. If you listen real close, you hear the inexperience in his rhedoric. Hopeful, idealistic.. yes.. and that sounds pretty but realities are much more difficult. I hate to say it, but Hillary or Edwards is better positioned to take on the repubs.. actually, Hillary has the best shot as a moderate. Democrats tradionally go with moderates because those do better in the general. And that is the ultimate fight, folks.. the general. They’d be well advised to remember this formula in Iowa. Food for thought.

Bob–so an ONLINE poll is more reliable because it’s the most recent? That’s ridiculous. I would think it would be less reliable. And by your own argument, the poll that showed Barry leading within the margin of error is old news too isn’t it? It’s not spin… it’s fact and I’m sorry you can’t understand that. I don’t trust polls altogether, but an ONLINE poll that the MSM was all over is ridiculous.
All I can say is: remember Harold Ford Jr. and his campaign in Tennessee. I worked on that campaign and really wanted to see him win (and still would), but this country has shown it’s true colors that it is not as racially progressive as we think it is.

We have some really interesting comments here! A few which really shock me in that people still believe that Obama is A: Terrorist that went to a madrassa, B: Unelectable because he’s black , C: Inexperienced and incapable of being president, even though we’ve have much less experienced presidents in the past.
I’d like everyone to check their so called “facts” before blabbering the same rhetoric over and over again. I’m with John Edwards on this, anyone that wouldn’t vote for Clinton just because she’s a woman or Obama just because he’s black – I believe should NOT get to vote. We’re the freaking United States of America, what happened to people? Equality? All men created equal?
I don’t agree with everything Obama stands for, mostly just gun control, but I support the great majority of what he is and what he has to offer. Run, Obama, all the way to the White House and jar this country back on track.

The Gallup poll has a pathetic sampling number in the mid hundreds where Zogby’s sample is over 9,000. To date Zogby has been way more acurate than any media herd poll. Personally, I’m supporting Rudy but wish all the best to Obama!

This country is terribly divided and polarized due to the past 20 years of Bush/Clinton. A Hillary Clinton presidency will simply make matters worse, like throwing gasoline on a fire. In my opinion, Barack Obama has the best chance of bringing this county back together again. We need a uniter not another divider.

I get the impression this is going to be very similiar to 4 years ago with Hillary being Dean and Obama being Kerry. Obama was little known outside of Chicago heading into the primaries and the voters are beginning to recognize his passion towards making positive changes in this country and it is showing in the polls. Obama isn’t out to be the first African American President, he is out to make this country a better place for us and our children. I get the impression that Hillary sees this more as an opportunity to make history and be the first woman president. I have no problem voting for a woman when there is a woman candidate worthy of being President. Hillary is not that woman.

Bob– “United not a divider…” Sure sounds like George W. Bush to me. The country was far better off when there was a Clinton in the White House Bob. Get over it–hope is just an idea if you don’t have a candidate with the experience necessary. This doesn’t have to be HIllary (although she is my candidate), but there are also Biden and Dodd who are equally capable. Obama is a hack of a politician. I’d vote for Oprah over him.

Here is a great example of the kind of person Hillary Clinton is:
When asked about the recent Iowa poll showing Obama leading she said “I don’t pay attention to any polls”. Then later when asked why Democrats should believe that she can beat the Republicans, she began citing polls that showed her leading the GOP candidates. Is this the kind of person we want leading this nation?

C’mon people, be real! I have no doubt that Mr. Obama is an intelligent, talented guy, but have you actually looked at his positions? His views are frighteningly naive!!! He may be a good candidate for president in 4-to-8 years, but the thought of this man running the country (with all of it’s it’s complexity) is truely scary.

This is too funny. Horizon says we need the “authenic” Biden. Right. Sue illustrates that anyone divorced should not be allowed to talk. Most hilarious is the people’s party of equality and diversity is saying some interesting things about Osama’s ethnicity. I clearly don’t have the nuance to comprehend all this.

A Barack Obama presidency represents a huge fundamental change in US politics. Just the basics are significant — Barack is of mixed race, has a Muslim father, has an Arabic name, and lived overseas for several years as a child. These facts, even on the surface, will make America look entirely different to the rest of the world — in a good way. It will be much more difficult for those who hate America to claim we are the enemy of the Islamic and Arabic world when our president’s name is Barack Hussein Obama. Plus he has limited inside the beltway experience, few connections to the lobbyists and special interests that have influenced the White house during the past few decades and an inspirational, uplifting, charismatic style that we have not seen since JFK. This is the kind of change many are looking for and this is the change America needs now.

Frankly, I hope John Edwards comes from behind and wins. This would make things more interesting and I think Edwards is a much more electable candidate than either Clinton or Obama. That said, I’ll support any Democrat in the general election.

Anyone coming on here and stating they would not vote for a man simply because of his skin color… how do you people sleep at night? How does the color of a persons skin determine how qualified they are to lead the FREE nation? You people are no different than the extremists that attack this nation and the freedoms we all have. Shame on all of you.

I have donated to Obama’s campaign, which is remarkable considering I have never in my life sent money to a candidate. There is something quite inspiring about him, something I haven’t seen before. I WANT him to win in a way I have never WANTED a candidate to win. I am amazed at myself, but more important, I am amazed that a calm-speaking, smart guy like this is actually connecting with the voters. Totally, completely inspiring.

Though I disagree with his political leanings, I find that Obama is personable and likeable, whereas Hillary is utterly cold and afraid of being challenged. I especially like how Obama has broken the fourth wall and taken Hillary to the woodshed over her hypocrisies. He is a fresh face on the scene and I wouldn’t mind seeing him beat her for the nomination, which Hillary has taken as her annointment by default.

To TexasDem, TrueBlue, and others of similar sentiments: What is amazing to the majority of America is you criticize hope, reason, and tolerance—but you want to instill fear, cynicism, and corruption. You’ll realize shortly that you’re in a minority. America is tired of your rhetoric. They will no longer work.

All of Hillary’s different voices are as fake as she is. Teacher, BLack, SOuth, NYC. She is the queen of deception. Is that the kind of WOMAN you want for the first female American President? What a poor example for the youth of America.
I’ve always suspected that her real, long term goal is to have her likeness on Mt. Rushmore. Unfortunately, it would only serve to remind us of the shame brought on by the Clintons for all eternity. The only question is where to put it. Next to Lincoln or Washington? I would suspect Washington who was dubbed the “Father of our Country”. She would be the first “Mother of the Country”, albeit for the reason of gender, instead of Washington’s bringing the country together. Wow, the irony of that thought…

I sincerely hope Gingrich is correct for once and is predicting accurately. After much research of all presidential candidates, I have reached the conclusion that Mr. Obama offers American’s the best opportunity to be able to return good governance to the United States. We must remove the control of the federal government from the continuation of “politics as usual”, and return it to the control of the people. Not only during his career in the state of Illinois, Mr. Obama has demonstrated the unique ability of being able to author and pass into law legislation on a bi-partisan level, against all odds, and a long entrenched political machine. Legislation which has included reforms to health and welfare, criminal justice, and the most sweeping ethics reform legislation of any state. He has been endorsed by the fraternal order of police for his work in the justice area. All this in the nation’s 5th largest state with the 3rd largest city. As a United States Senator he has worked to author and enact legislation on a bi-partisan level as well, evidenced by his successful work with Republican’s Richard Lugar and Tom Coburn. He also brings an obviously above average knowledge of constitutional law to the arena as well as an understanding of the problems of all people from the poor to the rich. Regarding other candidates, Joe Biden and John McCain represent the most experience in the politics as usual area, but Biden is un-electable for a number of reasons, McCain may have a ghost of a chance against the business financed campaigns of Romney and Giuliani. Romney is too embedded with big business and a proven flip-flopper. Giuliani is running on one merit alone of questionable doubt, and his past is too connected to corruption and immoral ethical standards which automatically raise a red flag to most people of intelligence. Then we have “tax hike Mike Huckabee” who will attract the religious right who may stand a chance by pulling support from Romney. Hunter, Gravel and Tancredo are out of the picture and Ron Paul’s libertarian stances won’t sell to the mainstream, which leaves Edwards and Hillary. Edwards has less experience in an elected public office than Obama or Hillary, and I don’t believe he can overcome his connection to the well healed and make a credible connection to low and middle income American’s, despite all the talk to that extreme. Hillary’ main asset of course is Bill. I think if all who are supporting Hillary were to ask themselves the question as to just why are they supporting Hillary, the answer would have to be, because she brings Bill with her. While she would bring lots of experience being first lady to the table, I wonder just how that equates to experience in dealing with the likes of Kim Jong-il, Ahmadinejad, or Putin, who presides over an imploding state. I question her ability to effectively enact non-partisan legislation beginning with the task handed her by husband Bill to formulate a health care plan and the subsequent demise by the Republican led Senate and Robert Dole. Her first term as senator also has not been stellar. I also question her lack of clarity on policies and questionable votes in Congress. I also don’t believe she can bring stability to right our own imploding economic condition, which brings me back to Obama. Obama has demonstrated the ability to answer all questions put to him regarding major issues facing the American public without non-answers or work-arounds, as Hillary and others do. While a number of his answers and policies may not sit well with some, and I myself do not agree entirely with his stands, but if he becomes president, they will be debated by 435 congressmen and 100 senators, who hopefully can reach a consensus regarding policies that can benefit us all. I firmly believe Obama brings this ability and quality to be able to get the job done, and I hope the majority of Americans do their own unbiased scrutiny of the candidates and reach the same conclusion as I have.

I believe Senator Obama has a deep vision, but the number of years experience as a Senator – Federal Government experience – is my concern! Look at Bush! However, I do believe if he does not make it in 2008 – I see him in as 2016 and if this comes true – I truly, truly believe, he will be considered one of the greatest Presidents in American History – next to Washington, Lincoln and Roosevelt (both Teddy and Franklin).

The country needs a real person/leader in the White House – we can not afford another propped up bum selling our assets and values piece by piece. The presidency is not the place to acquire personal power. Obama is the only candidate (though I don’t agree with all of his policies) that has the best interest of the WHOLE nation(not just his party)at heart. Go Obama! If he gets the Nom. I will vote for him.

No more Bushes; no more Clintons; no more two-faced governors from Arkansas (Clinton & Huckabee). This is the WORST presidential field in my lifetime. Guliani is a liberal posing as a conservative. Rommney says anything to appeal to voters. Thompsons a dud. McCain flipped off his base from 2000-2007 and now wants their support. Paul is a nut. Dems – Hillary literally has about two more years of experience as the INEXPERIENCED Barak Obama who says he’ll attack our allies (see his comments on Pakistan) if they don’t do what we want, when we want (but yet has a problem making the same remarks to our enemies like Iran); Hillary is a blithering idiot when she gets off-script (as her debate performances have shown). Edwards is a wouse who sends his wife out to defend him and his policies (and attack other candidates). Richardson has the experience and resume but serious integrity issues and his illegal immigration stance is 180 degrees from mainstream America. Dodd – seriously? Waitress sandwhich anybody? Gravel & Kucinich – Grade A Nut Jobs. Biden is about the only one I would consider in the Democrat field, but he has no chance. Regardless, if we rely on our political leadership, this country is screwed. This country’s strength is in its people (and their morale goodness) and our capitalist system.

He will not stand a chance against Ron Paul if he wins, for one making the government larger is not the solution to decades of overspending. It matters not whom you elect if the ideas that make up the government are far from the original intent. The answer to the Bush administration is not a larger sized version, nor is it a massive tax grab. The only breath of fresh air is to restore constitutional government, that means ending the war on drugs(consensual crimes), ending overseas adventures into other people’s business and restoring rights to privacy and reigning in corrupt corporations that behave more like governments. These people know no bounds in their attack on freedom not of the terrorists but of the American people. Just because you can print money out of thin air doesn’t mean it’s right. We have allowed this to go on for so long because of our inattention to these details of economics. People have become so inclined to worry about movie stars or sports performers or the way someone appears and placed those ideas above substantial progress and change. Ron Paul will bring about a real change. Obama represents more of the same with a new face. I don’t care what color you are, if you spout the same tired rhetoric of the past, it will not bring about my attention, turn yourself into a blue purple talking horse or whatever, it’s still the same program being run, then I’m not in.

I was a big Newt fan when he started his web site. Signed on first thing. Ask everyone to keep an eye on him as he could be our next President. Actually voted for him in 78 when I lived in Cobb county Ga. Newt is probably the sharpest guy out there when it comes to framing the issues that confront our country. Newt is great when it comes to analyzing eveyone else in the campaign but ole Newty has a problem, NO GUTS. Teddy Roosevelt has a saying that fits Newt to a T. Look it up, it’s about the critic. I lost all use for the guy when he backed out of running for President.
He’s making to much money with his Winning the Future deal. Wait till about February when he’s bled that cash cow dry and he will crank up about maybe he might better take a crck at it after all since the field of candidates hasn’t got a real handle on the issues. I tried to put a happy face on my opinion, but I didn’t want to tell anyone what I really feel about the guy.

It appears Hillary is gonna auger-in, how sad, and with all her experience. Experience, something none of the dems have. After Hillary is out of the race, there’s Obama. Now here’s a man that really has it dialed, maybe 6yrs total of political dues paid. Hillary has no history of getting anything accomplished, likewise Obama is right in the “front row” with her, nothing, oh but he’s smooth. I read a quote, it goes something like this.
“If the position of president was a street, someone would have to hold Obama’s hand while he crossed it.” Clemmet Shofnick—-WOW! He’s got my vote. What are the people thinking, the dems are a bunch of FREAKING LOOSERS!!!!

As for experience — can someone tell me exactly what bills or legislation Hillary Clinton co-authored or wrote while senator? The answer is none. Da, folks, that woman has been in elected office for a full 6 years and her biggest move was a huge blunder — her vote for the Iraq war. Now I hope that type of judgement and experience is not what voters want.
Let’s vote for change and a candidate that has passed an ethics reform bill through congress, that has passed legislation in his state to get over 100,000 people healthcare — plus he has done a whole lot more. I am talking about Mr. Obama.

Right now, Mark Penn is trying to flog Hillary’s strong national Gallup numbers against Rudy. What he’s not saying is that she still hasn’t cracked 50% against a Republican frontrunner whose party hasn’t coalesced.
She never did crack 50%.
Look, I’m a Republican. I want Rudy in the WH in the worst way. I think he would be a much better C in C during wartime than Hillary, who would feel compelled to prove herself in ways military that Rudy would not, much like Lyndon Johnson felt himself compelled to in 1964.
However, even I understand how powerful an Obama candidacy would be for the “turn the page” crowd. It would be as if Bobby survived in 1968 to run against Nixon. Obama is hitting his stride at just the right time.
Obama can beat Giuliani. It would be close, but Barack can win. Rudy, however, will beat Hillary Clinton like a rented mule. Democrats don’t see this, but I can see this coming a mile away. Women will go into those voting booths and abandon her, even though they will tell pollsters otherwise.
There’s pantsuit tough, like Hillary, and there’s real tough, like Rudy. Put it this way; John Gotti never would have wasted his time putting out a contract on Hillary Clinton, would he?
The question on who’s tougher answers itself.
But the Hope issue goes to Barack going away.

I’m amazed at the number of people that consider Hillary Clinton “experienced.” She’s a 1 and 1/3 term senator from a state that never would have elected her without having the last name Clinton. She’s done no major legislative miracles, voting with the majority on most major bills. Are we really to believe that she was the face of foreign policy for the first Clinton Administration? This is nothing more that Bill’s way of getting 8 more years in the Big House. How old is Chelsea now? Before long, we’ll see HER surrounded by people telling us how smart she is so when she’s 35, she’ll run too. Laugh now, but remember you saw it here first.

Now Ron Paul supporters — I know your frustration, but based on reality you guys are going to have to vote for someone that is electable — Ron Paul is not — sorry to say that. Ok, no harm.
You Hillary supporters — are you guys living in the by gone days of the 1990′s? If so, that time is over and will not return. We are going into 2008 and the political landscape has changed. Face it — Bill had his time.
As for Hillary — folks she represents the old politics of the 1990′s. She won’t get enough votes to win the nomination. So forget about her even running for the presidency in the Fall. You see, many people simply will not vote for Hillary — she is not likable and is seen as dishonest. So you Hillary supporters have a major problem with your candidate.
Now truth be told, and I have to admit, I love this truth, Barack Obama is the populist candidate. Like it or not — it’s a fact. I know some of you do not want to hear that, but the facts prove it.
Barack Obama:
1. Has raised more money thus far than any candidate running, including Hillary Clinton. Clinton had to take $10,000,000 from her senate race to add to her presidential campaign so it looked like she out fundraised Obama — well that did not work.
2. Draws the largest crowds all over America, more than all the other candidates. His crowds have reached over 20,000.
3. Has the largest and most organized grassroots campaign.
4. Is very straight forward and concise on the issues facing America and the world.
5. Has the broadest voter base than any other candidate running.
Based on those facts, it is clear he has the advantage over all the other candidates.
Look, we need to unite around a candidate that can help unite this country and help get the important laws passed in congress that America needs so badly. We need a president who can work with both parties to form a consesus in congress. Obama is that candidate.
Cast your treasured vote for the future of us all — Vote for Barack Obama.

THE ‘WHY’ OF USEFUL IDIOTS
People magazine and other such rags as well as a myriad of vapid shows on both cable and network tv gives the impression that celebrity is far more important than substance. That the Clintons are viewed as akin to rock stars shows how much the political debate has slipped. It was apparent that Bubba loved the perks of his office more than actually doing his job of running the country. But the current hero “worship” directed towards Ma Clinton still escapes serious understanding. An empty resume, a career enhanced only due to the circumstance of her marriage and the inability to truly articulate a vision for a better America seem to matter little to an adoring media. Perhaps once the primaries have ended and the BEAST finally disposes of her two very weak challengers, more serious discussion will take place and the country will get a full understanding of why the BEAST is NOT the person who should be entrusted with the leadership position—we can dream can’t we?
It was revealing when, in the Dim “debates” in Las Vegas, whenever her opponents challenged Hillary, the crowd boo’ed. Not only is this incredibly rude behavior, which one can expect from the far left, but it’s instructive. The supporters of Hillary don’t want her to be asked hard questions, they don’t care if she can answer hard questions, they just want her to win for emotional reasons. They have basically turned off their evaluative processes, their rationality, in order to back a candidate who appeals to them on some emotional level.
Now, to some degree, emotion plays a part in any decision. However, when you turn off your critical thinking skills, you make bad decisions. If Democrats were actually THINKING, they’d support a candidate who could articulate his or her positions and face tough questions. One might disagree with Dim ideology, but one must at least respect people like Biden or even Obama who actually discuss details and are not evasive.
The vast majority of people (87%) will believe anything they are told in a poll. An equally high number (88%)will also believe anything that an “authority” in their own political party tells them…or worse yet, some “celebrity” (ala Babs Striesand)— these “sheep” then turn around and spout off on blogs and over the water cooler and regurgitate all they have been told and present it as if they had done the research themselves—as if they could actually think for themselves. Polls can be manipulated by framing the questions in such a way as to encourage certain responses—thus providing fodder for the “sheeple”.

Obama is a lightweight and a tool of Boss Daley. I’ve watched the Chicago machine for years and he will bring a corrupt administration to DC. Well, OK, they’re all corrupt, but Obama is easily shaped. Remember Bush haters how he is being used?
“Cast your treasured vote for the future of us all” Ha, what a crock Andrea, our vote means nothing to the Democrats, they’ll just let in more illegals.

Does Marrying Bill Clinton Qualify Someone To Be President?
If a CEO of a fortune 500 company were to retire, would anyone seriously consider his wife to be an adequate replacement simply because she was married to him when he ran the company? What about a Super Bowl winning football team? What do you think the reaction of their fans would be if their coach’s wife was being seriously discussed as his replacement?
It sounds ridiculous, doesn’t it? Yet, Hillary Clinton has practically been anointed by the press and the punditocracy as our next President, despite the fact that her run at the presidency is almost entirely based on being Bill Clinton’s wife.
By that, I mean that if Bill Clinton had meant the sweet nothings that he whispered in Monica Lewinsky’s ear and he had divorced Hillary and married Monica, today Monica would be planning her Senate reelection campaign while Hillary would probably be working as a lobbyist for the Chinese toy manufacturers association.
But isn’t Hillary Clinton a brilliant politician in her own right? Oh, please. She has been involved in more scandals than the whole rest of the Democratic and Republican fields combined, she’s a participant in an off-putting sham marriage, she has minimal charisma, she is one of the most polarizing figures in politics, she has a reputation as a shameless liar, and so far, in her entire tenure in the Senate, she has never once accomplished anything of great significance or displayed notable leadership on any issue. Additionally, this is a woman who has gotten away with taking bribes, which is what her famous “cattle futures” scandal was really all about and had she been Hillary Jones, ordinary person, as opposed to Hillary Clinton, First Lady, she would have ended up in a jail cell over White Water.
However, if you listen to the talking heads on TV, she’s talked about as if she’s a political genius. Does it make you a political genius to poll test every publicly stated position you have and then script out a response that allows you to change your position and go the other way if public opinion changes or, more importantly, if you think you can get away with it? Maybe it does — if you can come across as being genuine while you do it. But, Hillary comes across as exactly what she is: An amoral shrew who’s willing to lie about anything and everything, destroy the lives of people who get in her way, and help cover up and enable the frequent affairs of her husband, all because she has an all-consuming urge to achieve power for power’s sake — and that’s just what liberal Democrats like John Edwards and Maureen Dowd think of her. Republicans generally aren’t as kind in their assessments of her personality and character.
So, how in the world has she managed to become the favorite in the race for the presidency? Simple: because of her husband, she has been the beneficiary of a double standard that is outrageous, even by the standards of the mainstream media. Many of the liberal movers and shakers in the press are Baby Boomers who look at Bill Clinton as being “one of them”.
Out of love for Bill, Hillary has received the sort of fawning press coverage that’d you expect a Soviet premier to get from Pravda before the Berlin Wall fell. That’s why Hillary can get away with staging questions at her political events and also why her campaign was so grievously offended when Tim Russert actually tried to get her to come down on one side or the other on a question about giving illegal aliens driver’s licenses: Hillary Clinton is so used to being treated with kid gloves by the mainstream press, that she was shocked when she was asked to play by the same rules as the other candidates.
Sometimes people like Clinton, who’ve been given every break and then some because of nepotism, try to step it up a notch to prove to people that they’re worthy of the high honors they’ve so effortlessly acquired. For example, whatever you may think of Ted Kennedy, nobody can say that he hasn’t been a great champion of liberal causes. George W. Bush is another example. He may have been born with a silver spoon in his mouth, but he ran a business, he flew fighter jets in the National Guard, and he was elected twice as Governor of Texas before he became President. On the other hand, Hillary has not only never run a business, every job she ever held the private sector was given to her because of who her husband was.
Yes, she did manage, again, because of who her husband was, to get elected as a Senator in New York, one of the most liberal states in the nation, but that’s a rather thin reed to use as justification for a run at the Presidency. Just as a point of comparison, Dan Quayle was relentlessly bashed as being too inexperienced and green to be Vice-President, despite the fact that he has served in the Senate just as long as Hillary Clinton and had spent two terms as a Congressman besides. Even more impressively, Quayle won office on his own merit, not because he happened to have married the right person.
What it all boils down to is that Hillary Clinton is Kevin Federline becoming famous because he was married to Britney Spears. She’s “Brownie” being appointed as head of FEMA, not because he was the best-qualified person for the job, but because he knew the right person. She’s every 22 year old “C” student with a business degree who has been allowed to leapfrog over dozens of more capable people and start as a top executive because his daddy happens to be a heavy hitter in the company.
Does that mean she can’t win the Presidency? Oh no, she could certainly pull it off. In fact, people like Hillary Clinton get ahead of their more qualified competitors so regularly that, “It’s not what you know, it’s who you know,” has become a cliche. But, Americans should be forewarned that who holds the presidency, particularly during the war on terror, is not a trivial matter and unlike the Senate, where you’re just one of 100 members, the President alone has to make decisions of great import. Since that’s the case, don’t Americans deserve better than a leader of the free world whose chief qualification for the job is being Mrs. Bill Clinton?
THE BEAST IS “UNDER-QUALIFIED”
You can vote for her because….
You like her,
You like Bubba,
Because she’s a dem,
Because she’s a woman,
Because she can make millions with a tiny investment,
Because she has copies of your FBI file,
Because she will have the IRS audit you,
But you can not vote for her because she is the most qualified.
Will the BEAST and her minions be able to pull it off……? Clearly the answer is yes, as we will confirm in a year. This is what America has become. From the wilderness, accomplished men of vision formed a democracy, based on individual freedom and self reliance, that rose to be the mightiest power on Earth.
And now that once mighty empire of rugged individualists has become a nation of cripples, victims, loafers, degenerates and helpless children turning to an unaccomplished woman who’s done nothing but who promises to somehow make every day a sunny one at no expense.
Her election will prove that we are indeed unable to care for ourselves and that we must be more tightly controlled, just like any group with special needs. We will have shown that we are a danger to the world with all our weaponry but our inability to properly manage such power. Perhaps the UN should come here and provide oversight like they do for any Third World country.

andrea ,we dont need any consensus from the republicans ,they ran the country into the ground, and under without ANY democratic consent.
screw the republican , lets tax them like crazy and spend all the money they reamed from everyone while they were in office ,and i cant think of anyone better qualified to do the payback as hillary and bill. they will make the near term (and hopefully far ) super painful tax-wise for the money grubbers and thats what the republicans need ,less money in their bank accounts so the avg joe can get his hands on some of it and buy food and gas.
the republican majority ran what bills and such they wanted right through the republican house and senate, the republican president signed them ,and the republican appointed supreme court upholds all that tripe.
see what you get when you dont pay attention in school ?? ignorant voting like that by the uneducated american voter (letting any one political party have total control of the government) is EXACTLY the reason this country is so screwed up at the moment.
…sigh…(shakes head )

I am amazed at the number of people who talk of the ignorance of Blacks compared to Whites. This is so sad. Beyond that, the last time I checked—it takes 23 chromosomes from each parent in creating a child. So Barack is just as White as he is Black. This “blood formula” that was created—oh, before whenever—truly created an ignorant level for the likes of most to calm their self-esteem. However, if it works for ya—use it. Certainly not bothering Barack.

Chris, come on, let’s try. At least we can say we tried. We just can not give up. Chris I truly beleive Barack Obama is a god-send. You don’t know me — but trust me on this. I have good instincts when it comes to politicians. I have called it right every time.
Just give Obama your support and spread the good word about Obama — get people to vote for him.
Sigh — America needs positive change, not bickering and fighting. That’s why we need to say no to Hillary and Bill Clinton. They are just after power. I know you want to get back at the republicans. That’s not the way to help this country. To get healthcare, education and energy reforms passed — we need a president that is willing to form a consensus in congress and can work with both parties. Vote Obama — think big, don’t think back.

Gingrich WANTS Obama to WIN… THat tells you that Republican Party is NOT afraid of Obama AT ALL…. WHY? Majority will NEVER VOTE for a Minority to be a Leader of a Country…. It will cause MORE chaos.
Bottom Line, if Obama wins the nomination, he will definitely lose the General Election. He will NEVER carry any Southern States and the Midwest STATES…. Remember the Reagan’s “Southern Strategy”… Most young people have no clue…

Some of you want to be cynical, that’s fine. But you know we have had great presidents that helped trnsform the nation and move us in a positive direction.
Barack Obama is the candidate that can lead the movement of positive change we all crave deep inside. I know a lot of people here have given up. You are waving a white flag right now! :-)
Let’s hang on to hope and give our vote to the best possible candidate. Like Obama said, he’s not perfect. No one really is. But Obama not only can help get us in the right direction, but the world will see us in a more positive light as well. Obama indeed may be our next Lincoln or MLK. This is a special moment in history — embrace it.
Check out my previous posts to read why I feel Hillary Clinton honestly has no chance of even winning the nomination.

I agree I am a registered Republican but I will rather see Hillary Clinton all the way in the White House because she will bring back the U.S. Constitution back in the White House and hopefully stop NAFTA, eventhough her husband signed it but never went into effect until this Bush-master put in effect in 2003…beside when Bill Clinton was in office he was more effective in border issues and trade, except handling Islamic terrorist he had Madelyn Albright advised him wrongfully…well I hope Hillary will have better advisor with her because I believe is she the best candidate because she is a true American at heart…PEACE OUT…MON’

In two posts condensed here, BAH revives Marxist economic theory by calling for “…some good old tax and spend (at the rich folks [sic] expense” so they have “less money in their bank accounts so the avg joe can get his hands on some of it”
Unfortunately, “rich” whether to Shrillery or B Hussein Obama (or Charlie Rangel, et al, ad nauseum) means those making over $90,000 a year. Just because someone is successful and earns a good living, or is wildly wealthy for that matter, does not make them evil, money grubbing, or deserving of a punitive tax code. People earn good money by identifying a need and creating a product or service to fill that need.
Seriously, why vilify such people? Their hard work stokes the engine that keeps this country running. Why does their SUCCESS become your ENTITLEMENT? If you put a little more effort into your own success and spent less time resenting it in others, you too might join us in the “fabulously wealthy $90K a year” club.

It’s time to turn the page, distancing ourselves from the scandals of the past and present. We need a new day and a new face for America. Hillary can’t provide that. The Republicans can’t provide that. Barack Obama is the right man for this time.
I’m fired up! Lets change America!

Andrea–The equivalent of your post is to ask: If Hillary Clinton’s last name was not what it is, would she be a viable candidate? That’s like asking, if Obama will not win the nomination because he is black? They are both ridiculous questions. You forget that Senator Clinton was a lawyer and activist before she was First Lady. You forget that she’s been in the Senate longer than Barry and that she’s signed her name to notable legislation (especially Plan B contraceptives and extending health care to our military forces). You can claim that she is inexperienced but you have no facts to support that claim. Obama’s only notable legislation is ethics reform, which he signed on as a sponsor at the last minute.
Hope is only a word if you don’t have the experience to put it forward–Clinton, Biden, or Dood–anyone but Obama. He’s as inexperienced as G.W. Bush and he at least was a governor with a proven track record before he ran… Barry can’t say that.
Wake up and smell the coffee! Open your eyes and don’t be fooled into an idea of hope–the candidate you want to support will ensure that we lose in the general and I will hold you responsible.

NOW ESPECIALL NEWT GRINGHES IS ENDORSING THIS OBAMA, THAT’S IS TOO FUNNY MY AMERICAN FELLOW…IT’S ALMOST AS FUNNY OPRAH SUPPORTING OBAMA…FOR ONE THING OPRAH IS A HYPOCRIT AND RACIST…REMEMBER BRO’S I AM HALF JAMAICAN AND CHINESE SO DON’T CALL ME RACIST…OPRAH ONCE SUPPORTED HILLARY AND CLAIMED HILLARY IS HER GIRL HAVE YOU PEOPLE FORGOTTEN THAT? YOU PEOPLE WATCHED TO MUCH TELEVISION LOOK AROUND YOU YEAH THE ILLEGALS ARE TAKING OVER, JOBS ARE GOING OVERSEAS, GAS GOING HIGHER, U.S. TROOPS STILL IN IRAQ, HEALTHCARE AND HOSPITAL GOING BROKE…AND WHO’S CONTROLLING THE HOUSE AND SENATE …YEAH ELECTED DEMOCRATS…
ANYBODY BUT OBAMA OR RUDY… I DON’T SUPPORT HILLARY BUT SHE DOES HAVE MORE EXPERIENCE RUNNING THIS NATION…
Posted by: RASTA-MAN | November 27, 2007, 3:18 pm 3:18 pm
And to your last point–Obama is not the right PERSON at the right time–look at Jena, LA and tell me that our country will be brought together with him as the nominee. Race relations are not what you think they are in your “idealistic” world. There are real life issues that need to be addressed that your candidate cannot solve. He has no experience and when he does have a so-called “plan” it’s picked apart and he then takes a nuanced position (health care, social security, etc). He may claim to have been against the war but he’s voted for funding since he’s been in the Senate–that isn’t real leadership and if that’s why you’re supporting him–you deserve to go down with him.
Fired up? Ready to go? Please do. Go away.

No poll, by anyone, can be or is of any value in Iowa.
Iowa does not vote. It has a caucus method .. it’s a shotgun method .. that changes every hour right up to choosing which side of the room one wants to stand on, and not be persuaded to cross the room … but alas, the lue of those home made browines are too much for too many.

People who want to have Obama in the office don’t realize that we are not in 1991 or 2000, where the world was nice and cozy…
We have extremely difficult problems to face and we need somebody who is already well established with the world leaders. The only one I know is Hillary Clinton. Nobody else has her life experience. She knows personally many leaders, she has a tremendous experience to work with congress. She knows what the president has to do to win congress.
If we are at peace, if America’s image was well perceived ion the world, I would certainly try somebody new, like Obama. Not today.

Newt is one of the smartest policy guys out there, and he’s a polling genius too. He’s probably right here. And those of you predicting Obama will lose because he’s black are missing two key points — (1) he was raised by his white grandmother and (2) is the child of privilege and the Chicago political machine. The Chicago Democrat machine elects black stool pigeons and race-baiters all the time, because they are easy to control. I predict Obama will win big, because Iowa Democrats want someone who is bought-and-paid for, rather that someone like Hillary who is unpredictably sleazy. Obama has the party’s interests in mind. Hillary has her own. Iowa Dems ought to want a partisan. America ought to want someone who puts America first… neither of them stack up.

Mr Obama if nominated will carry the flames of a united america where love, concern for one another thrills.you need to see the steam behind Mr Obama campaign. americans feel a sense of togetherness in Obama, white , blacks, latinos, asians americans , infact Obama represents america and if nominated he will crush any republican candidate hands down. quote me anywhere anytime.

I love Hillary Clinton. She has such great policies, but you can’t understand them because you don’t have a HillaryLoving brain, and she doesn’t say them because her words could destroy the unprepared, unenlightened masses out there in Americaland.

on the other hand if Hilary is nominated she spells blood for the dems party. i tell you why. she is the single candidate out there that will drive the least motivated rep to the polling stations.
secondly she would drive off indepedents to the rep party . listen to hilary, always talking about right wing machine, thats stupid politics, simpy energizing the rep base. Mr Obama is terribly smart. he goes for the problem and not the people. u need to see republicans give up hope of the white house if Mr Obama is nominated but get energized if hilary is.

An Obama win is a Republican dream and probably a Republican plant. Never will this country elect a black former muslim as president.
Go ahead democrats, nominate him, and live with a Republican for another four years, ha, ha, ha.

TexasDem — Hillary signed her name to legislation. Many senators sign their name to legislation. Hillary has nothing nothing ground breaking in the senate. An activist — where? What did she do and for how long?
Hillary also signed her name on legislation to send our troops to war in Iraq.
She fills her pockets with money from lobbyists. She’s an opportunist and a carpet bagger.
Hillary Clinton will not get enough delegates to win the nomination — she’s too divisive and dishonest — period.
Obama was an activist for 5 years in the tough streets of Chicago — he risked his life for his convictions. He helped bring about some change.
No TexasDem, I was not trying to ask the two questions you stated.
Look, TexasDem — I’ll see you on this board here in about 4 months, and we will see who is right. We have a date.

somebody mention President Reagan was acting with chimpanzee, what’s Reagan got to do with this circus? President Reagan was a U.S. Army Air Force correspondence, he couldn’t fly because he had bad eyes at least he was an American soldier unlike Mr. Obama Hussein Barack who grew up in Indonesia went to a Madrassa (Islamic extremist study) and a 7th cousin of Dick Cheney…scary thought I think Cheney and Co. is the one sponsoring Obama with his presidential campaign that’s why he hasn’t mentioned where his campaigning fund mostly comes from…don’t you guys see the irony here…Barack Osama is pigeon stool of the Republican to ran and lose, they want him to be the nominee because Hillary Clinton is too smart and will defeat the any Republican nominee…fresh look and breath of fresh air Osama is that what all you fools are considering this guy…I don’t believe all Americans are supporting this Obama, it’s just media hype because I relatives and friends in Chicago, Illinois, Obama is not well liked there because he hasn’t done anything there for them since he was elected…sounds like Bill Clinton, governing Arkansas which is mostly living off welfare and government cheese…

Most of the comments posted here appear to be a squabble between people who intend to vote for one Democrat or another. I won’t jump into this fray except to post my one opinion and then leave. My opinion is that a year from now, when all of the ’08 votes have actually been tabulated, the Democrats will once again be screaming “foul” and whining that the Republicans have “stolen” another election! It really makes no difference who the candidates are, Republican or Democrat, because the Dems are wrong on just about every important issue facing the country. A majority of the voters will recognize that fact when crunch time comes next November.

First of all, I am a female who thinks it would be great to see another female take the highest office in the land. Altho I’m a lifelong Republican, I thought it was wonderful to see Nancy Pelosi become Speaker of the House. She truly earned that position. Having said that, Hillary Clinton is NOT a female I would EVER vote for for president, under any circumstance.
Hillary does NOT possess the integrity, wisdom, judgement, temperment or the experience needed to be the leader of the free world.
Personally, I think it’s disgusting that she feels she is owed the office. And let’s be real people, she truly believes she’s earned it (following dutifully behind husband Bill all these years).
For the love of God and this nation – NO MORE BUSHES or CLINTONS!
You Hillary supporters need to get over yourselves and the fighting of all those old battles. This is not the 90s – those days are GONE. Bill had his time in office and the Dems got their equivalent of the Repubs Reagan. LET IT GO! In 2008 we need a fresh face and a new beginning. Hillary is NOT that candidate. She represents everything old and worn out, not to mention the establishment at its most entrenched sleaziness. There are far better candidates in the race, whether you choose to acknowledge that or not.
I will vote for RON PAUL in the primaries, but am leaning towards Edwards or Obama. (My deepest wish is that Gore and Obama would run together, but oh well).
I will vote for Obama or Edwards in the general against the establishment tool that will probably be the GOP nominee, but will definitely stay at home if the Dems are dumb enuff to nominate Hillary.
Peace.

The Democrats are stupid beyond belief to nominate Hillary, by the way. No other candidate will bring GOP voters out to the polls the way she will.
The Democrats have got to understand one very salient fact if they hope to win in ’08: A large number of people HATE Hillary. The reasons are debateable; however, the fact remains.
If the Dems reeeeaally want to take back the White House, it’s gonna take a nominee who can win over the Independents and some on the other side of the aisle. That candidate most likely is Barack Obama.
He is the one Democrat who has sizeable support on the right. Do not underestimate the importance of that. The 2008 election is WAY too important!

Tennessee may not be the south but explain the racial tension that took place in Jena, LA not too long ago? Is that also not representative of the entire south? They both demonstrate that racial tensions aren’t as kumbya as you wish they would be.
Andrea, the “tough streets of Chicago” where brave Obambie risked his life? Seriously? Though you attempt to knock every piece of legislation like increase in Plan B contraceptive or increasing health care for our troops but you fail to mention what “brave” legislation Obama has passed? He signed on as a late sponsor to the ethics reform. According to your logic, we should discredit that too. He’s helped continue to fund the war in Iraq despite being against it from the start as a “stupid war,” yet not “brave” enough to bring it to an end…sounds like a real winner to me.
Posted by: TexasDem | November 27, 2007, 6:41 pm 6:41 pm
Obama showed uncommon courage and judgement in opposing the war (from the start). He was running for office at the time, too.
Too bad the same can’t be said for Hillary.
As for Edwards, I can forgive him. He has fully acknowledged the wrongness of his vote for the war.
Hillary is every bit as stubborn and wrong-headed as her buddy W. Bush.
Posted by: Bailey | November 27, 2007, 6:51 pm 6:51 pm
Andrea:
To answer your other charge: Senator Clinton was the Texas organizer for G. McGovern, the organizer in Tennessee for Carter, and was against the war in Vietnam during her time in college, was the first woman to speak during graduation at her alma matter and used it as a platform to advocate an end to the Vietnam war. She also was an attorney at a firm that took clients with the likes of the Black Panthers when no other firm would. In the White House she championed children’s health care and the rights and needs afforded to families. She was an activist on the Children’s Defense Fund and sat on the board of directors. As a young lawyer, she was a lawyer for the Congressional Watergate Committee.
I’m sure there were a few “tough streets” that she walked through as well… but what’s more telling is what she’s been able to accomplish in her life as a woman in an era when women were not afforded the liberty to as much as you are today.
She advocated and passed legislation to increase Plan B contraceptions and increased health coverage for our armed forces and helped bring resolution to the survivors and widows of 9/11.
Do some research and save yourself the embarrassment at sounding so uninformed.
Hope is only a word if you don’t have a candidate experienced enough to implement it. Support Clinton, Dodd, or Biden–anyone but Obama. Fired up? Ready to go? Please do. Go away and don’t ruin our chance at winning in the general. Look at Jena, LA and tell me that race relations are what you think they are and then tell me that Obama will bring us together? Support a real viable candidate and not an EMPTY phrase that your candidate cannot back up.

Hey now.. you people are all wrong about the Harold Ford non-election in 06. It had nothing to do with race, in fact I personally think he got so close because he is a good looking, very articulate and likeable young black man.. what beat him is his family name. The name Ford is disliked and distrusted and often associated with criminal politicians. He got close, very close to a win, and he ran mainly on conservative values.. but his family last name and his prior voting record in congress is in direct conflict with his claims of conservative values.

I love these liberal rant posts. We need someone as President who going to Tax the rich at a higher %, fix healthcare and immigration? The liberal version of rich is anyone who makes more than $50,000 a year. Tax increases are bad for everyone. Fix healthcare by making it run like the your local DMV. Peole want to choose their own doctors. Immigration the Dems just want the boarders to overflow. Oh, I almost forgot we need to raise the cap on social security. Great idea to make one of the worst government programs in history even a bigger welfare program. If that is what we were going to do then kiss goodbye to America because none of us will have enough money to eat.

The Neo-con Republicans try to move just a bit to the left (compassionate consevatives) to appear like Democrats, while the Democrats are not bringing our men and women in Irag as quickly as possible (they use to be for the immediate withdrawl of troops) because they want to appear as tough as the Neo-con Republicans. In the end both the Replicans and Democrats are the same. Both stand for wasteful government;contining the war, while the middle class and poor are told that for the sake of patriotism to have their children die for these senseless wars, created by the elitist corporate powers and their puppet politicians; stealing our hard earned money with an income tax, to make them-selves rich, powerful and enjoy the best pensions and healthcare, while stealing our social security money for their stupid domestic and defunctional foreign policy. I am a woman and but will not vote for Clinton. I am a minority but will not vote for Obama.
I am patriotic but refuse to let the neo-con have my vote. All of the vermin above steal from us and want to send our children to die or be left with the enormous debt to pay with a devaluing American dollar. Wake up America….vote Ron Paul!

Here’s more on the Zogby poll that shows Hillary trailing all 5 GOP candidates while Obama leads them all. Apparently, Mark Penn, the chief political strategist for Hillary Clinton criticised the latest Zogby Interactive survey simply because it showed Hillary in a bad light. Penn mischaracterized this latest online Zogby poll as Zogby’s first interactive survey ever – a bizarre contention, since they have been developing and perfecting their Internet polling methodology for nearly a decade, according to Fritz Wenzel, Director of Communications at Zogby International. Zogby stands by the results.

As good as Obama is he does not stand a chance because his name is Barack Obama. We’ll see about Iowa, but the majority of middle America and the rest of the country is just not prepared to elect someone with such a name. Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush, Clinton. Those are the kinds of names America is used to. Not someone that shares a Muslim name with Public Enemy No. 1. Sorry, Obama people, you have wasted your time and money. Selling out and changing his name would possibly have made him the first black President. Not now.

I’m a conservative, so I don’t really have a dog in this Democrat primary fight (unlike Bill Clinton). Nevertheless, Biden is clearly the only one on the platform who GETS IT. When the candidates and the sheeple in the audience were all carping about the racial profiling created by the Patriot Act, Biden was the only one to stand up and say that the Patriot Act did not authorize profiling of muslim air travelers (which is unfortunate when you consider that none of the 9/11 hijackers looked like my grandma who is as likely to get pulled out of line at O’Hare as a 24 year old “student” from Syria with an expired visa). All the other candidates were clearly pandering and Biden was the only one who seemed remotely aware of the actual FACTS.

Super Tuesday, February 5th, 2008 is the real date that matters. Anyone who stumbles on 2/5/08 is a goner. New Hampshire and Iowa lost all their value when all the other states moved their primaries up. Too bad the candidates and their supporters fail to see that.

TexasDem,
So let me get this straight, her qualifications are she was a campaign organizer for the biggest loser ever in a POTUS election, organizer for the worst president we ever had, took a position in college that was popular in the polls and defended avowed violent criminals as a lawyer. Mostly her time as a lawyer was spent as a lobbyist and champion of corrupt business ventures. Laura Bush has championed education while first lady – maybe she should run as a child advocate. Or vote for Fred Thompson who actually SAT on the Watergate Committee.

Newt and the Republican congress ironically were the real reason for the success of the Clinton presidency. All the the good economic numbers that came out of that era were the direct result of that tight-fisted congress. Of course, all economic credit (good and bad) goes to the president, so Mr. Clinton, thank Newt for your success (such as it is). Hillary, however, is looking weak at the moment. I laugh at this talk about the experience factor. Laying next to her husband for eight years doesn’t mean Hillary has presidential experience. Obama has the identical experience as only one other president: ABRAHAM LINCOLN. He turned out alright. Obama means CHANGE, and that’s what American wants and needs.

Newt doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Polls change from week to week. How do we know the polls are correct. According to NH Hillary is leading Obama by a large margin and SC black minister’s have just endorsed her along with don’t forget Babs. Iowa is not the only state in the union and losing it is no loss. There are 49 other states and believe me she will win the big ones. Candidate should not make Iowa that important its to small of an issue and too small of a state. Obama will not get the nomination for president and it doesn’t matter how much Oprah campaigns for him. I believe Bill Clinton to be more popular than Oprah and will bring in the votes for Hillary no matter how many comments are made about him and her. Its going to be Hillar vs. Giuliani (and are his mob friends going to pay to get him elected?) and its going to be a very close race.

Sorry folks, the media has already decided that it will be Hillary vs. Rudy.
They’re throwing you Obama people a bone to keep their ratings up.

Hillary is just like Bill Clinton. She will govern like a moderate Republican and will do nothing to change things. She is completely uninspiring. It will be four more years of stagnation. Obama reminds me of Robert Kennedy. He has the potential to build some unity in this country and get us back on the right track.

If the Dems make the mistake of choosing Obama, the Republicans will have a field day in the genearl elections. Obama will simply not be the next President!

In Diane Sawyer’s interview with Newt Gingrich on GMA, November 27, 2007, she appeared shocked that Huckabee would run an ad that indicated he was a Christian. Ms. Sawyer seemed stunned that a presidential candidate would state he is a Christain in no uncertain terms in a nation such as ours with diverse beliefs.
I do not see anything wrong with Huckabee stating he is a Christian. Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs–including presidential candidates. Everyone knew of former President John F. Kennedy’s strong commitment to Roman Catholicism, a denomination within the Christian faith.
Also, it just seems prominent people in our nation as a whole no longer know the ultimate, changeless, timeless truths found in Scripture. They do not know who Jesus the Christ is or why He interrupted life on earth with His presence as He did 2000 years ago.
If Jesus is who He claims to be and if Diane and others holding her same opinion fully understood Jesus’ 3-year ministry on earth, I believe there would be far fewer people who can’t seem to comprehend why a person would stand firm on his beliefs in private and in public as appropriate.

Gingrich hates the Clintons.
Reminds me of the Watergate film ‘All The President’s Men’.
He could be stood in Gingrich’s spot now saying ‘they wanted to run against Obama and now look there running against’ after the Republicans have talked him up.
I live in the UK and from over here its blindingly obvious who your Democratic candidate should be.
The Democrats have to decide do they want to win the White House or go for Mr. Hope and Opportunity. Go for Obama and despite is outstanding public speaking he will be defeated. He will be made to look the inexperienced politician he is.
I think some of you need to wake up.
Do you want power.
If so you’ve got to go for Clinton.

This country is ready for a change, a change from Bush’s policy but not a change led by a minority who is getting press for just being a minority. People can’t seem to get over the emotional aspect in the democratic nominees. We need to look at the facts. Obama will not win against McCain. Hillary has a better chance than Obama. Edwards would have been the best rival against McCain.

Barack Obama get a gip. Let me say I am seventy one years old and I was married to a black man for twenty five years. (I too am a white grandmother.) We married in 1955 it was not so popular for what we called mixed couples back then. What nonsense that people use racial remarks about ordinary black people. These remarks are used against uncouthed or violent people. What’s more, blacks do it too. I have lived it so get over it !!!!! Correct your own attitude. People like Obama are the one that keep racial division going. and you buy into it. Most white people have so much more to think about in their lives that racial remarks are not important or even thought about. Now don’t say that white people are thoughtless about black people because that’s not what I’m saying and you know it!!! Once you get over yourself and stop looking for everything that you can construe as racial you might find that all of your problems are not caused by whites but are caused by you not taking responsibility for your own actions. There will always be some inequality for you as there is for white people but you are so busy looking at your own misfortune that you can’t see the problems of others. You think you are the only people that have suffered.
