GQ Picks Ron Paul as a ‘Man of the Year 2007′

ABC News’ Jennifer Parker Reports: GQ magazine has chosen Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul as one of their "Men of the Year 2007."

Paul, 72, appears in GQ’s December issue with GQ’s other men of the year including Hollywood heavyweight Tom Hanks, hip-hop artist Kanye West, new James Bond actor Daniel Craig, actor Casey Affleck, baseball star Alex Rodriguez, and tennis ace Roger Federer.

Calling him the "Dark Horse of the Year," the Texas congressman is the only White House contender to make GQ’s cut.

"He has tapped into his party’s silent minority, one that won’t abide torture, reckless spending, or endless war," GQ writes in their December issue on stands Nov. 27th.

"And his supporters (and admittedly, there are some real conspiracy-minded moonbats among them) have rewarded Paul for his courageousness, to the tune of more than $5 million in campaign contributions in the third quarter — about the same as John McCain has raised. It isn’t a revolution, but Ron Paul’s candidacy serves as a reminder that electoral politics needn’t be a joyless march to a clothespin vote. It can be daring and kind of kooky, too," GQ says.

Former President Bill Clinton, and potential First Gentleman, also made the cut for his foundation’s charity work in Africa.

The magazine also selected New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg — long-rumored to have considered a 2008 White House bid — to be among their ‘Men of the Year 2007,’ calling him a ‘Maverick’ politician.

Ron Paul is not like the democratic or republican candidates—-he is an honest patriot. The American people are way too dumb to see this and elect him verses the Hillary and Rudy duo. How sad is America anyway? Gullible people always lose their countries too treacherous liars.

I might take ron paul more serious if it wasnt for his supporters. They are maybe some of the most annoying people on the internet. I think theres a book you have to read when you start to support this guy because every single one of them coppies the same line when they talk about him. “he is an honest patriot”or “he will bring america back” every post says the same things. I cant take someone to serious that has jokers backing him.

Ron Paul speaks plain and simple and I’m alway’s refreshed thinking that he could be the next President.

It’s too bad that you see truth as a joke. There is no other way to say it. He has sound monitary policies, always voted in favor of the Constitution, turned down the congressional pension he’s entitled to, voted against the war and the patriot act, and he wants to limit governmental power while returning REAL power back to the American People where it belongs. I’m no kook, just an average Joe who is tired of corrupt politics and pocket lining. I honestly believe that Ron will not lead our nation any further in that dark direction, but instead, into the light. God bless him, we need more Americans like him.

Wow, many thanks to you ABC and Jennifer Parker for publishing this article on Ron Paul. I guess you all are not blind to what is really going on in America. We need more positive reporting on the Candidates, especially Ron Paul. As to the comment made by Leon, I am sorry that we Ron Paul Supporters have offended you and we get a little excited. Please realize that quite a few of Americans finally see that there is a Candidate to get excited about and a Candidate that will make the necessary changes to put our country back in line with OUR CONSTITUTION. I have never donated to a campaign and it wasn’t because I didn’t vote before but because I have never found any of the other Candidates to be worthy, well maybe with the exception of Ronald Reagan, I did look up to him, I was active duty military when he was running for office. We need to get our troops home, and I know that Ron Paul WILL do that.
I won’t rant and rave about Ron Paul, but I will tell you he has my support and vote. I am very thrilled to see that one of the major media players is actually reporting something positive about this man, and not downplaying him or doing the blackout on him as the other main stream media do. For example recently CNN’s Glen Beck has gone as low as to call Ron Paul Supporters Terrorists, now that is utterly rediculous to say the least. I am an average Jane American, just trying to raise a family, working and really wanting to see America progress in a positive way, so that my children might have a Country they can be proud of and have their Freedom and Liberty. I believe the changes Ron Paul wants to make will do just that. He will do it using our Constitution and listening to the people, as well as working with Congress. We have to downsize our federal government or we will not be a Country in the near future but a fallen Empire.
I say this from my heart, and with a logical/reasonable thinking mind.
Thanks again ABC, and of course Jennifer Parker, awesome Political Radar reporting.

Ron Paul is the only worthwhile candidate that’s currently running for President.

If I am not mistaken, Ron Paul has raised
much more money than McCain. Ron Paul is
authentic and he has my vote…..

Ron Paul exudes honesty and integrity which is a refreshing change from all of the rest of the candidates and perhaps congress itself. He is literate, well-spoken, genuine and really seems to care about the U.S.A. and the Constitution. Of course, this also is complete about face with the other candidates and I will not even begin to compare this to our current el residente Bush. I have seen signs saying that Ron Paul has cured their apathy and I can fully relate and appreciate the message and the energy taken to relay. I cannot imagine anyone who has taken the time to educate themselves as to current policy foreign and domestic aided with a fundamental and comprehensive knowledge of history who would not welcome Ron Paul with all the enthusiam of a poor man gumming a ritz cracker after the Bush/Clinton dynasty. Ron Paul talks sensibly and his policies are aimed at making the U.S. a peaceful, prosperous, trading nation with a focus on the ideals that all other countries will want to emulate. Americans have a choice: We can vote for the same old fakirs and criminals and “stay the course”(will think of W every time I hear this for the rest of my life) OR we can take the time to break away from this dumbing down and fascist indoctrination to be free, responsible people of a great nation that will BE RESPONSIBLE and think for ourselves. Vote Ron Paul—all other candidates are for 1984!!

Excuse an old man for commenting. I have been a 55 year Democrat and never seen an honest to goodness “honest” politician in Washington. I never dreamed of moving to the “other” party but I recently had an awakeing and have at the age of 74 changed my registration to Republician so I could vote for Ron Paul in the primary, if you want this man to win I suggest you register and VOTE..DONT TALK VOTE

He’s the only Republican I’d vote for. But since he does not believe in invading people’s privacy, he has no chance of getting broad Republican support. After all, what is an evangelical if not a hypocrite who keeps dirty linen, and expects everyone else to be clean as snow?

Posted by: DoRite | November 21, 2007, 1:25 am 1:25 am

He will never be president. He doesn’t have “the look”. How sad is that?

Posted by: Mary | November 21, 2007, 1:49 am 1:49 am

Ron Paul and his supporters seem to some as being a little off center. That is because he is and we are. We take a strong stand for honesty and integrity in government. We believe that our government should benefit the people rather than rob and deceive them. We are not middlin fence sitters having no firm convictions either way on the issues. We have given them enough thought to know what is in the best interest of our entire nation rather than the highest benefit of selfish interest groups. Yeah, we’re unballanced toward sanity and character and away from the loony status quo. Thank God the number of “unballanced” people in America is growing by leaps and bounds every day. And the whole gang is voting for our hero, Ron Paul.

To “VeteranD” (& the rest of you Ron Paul supporters): It’s FUNNY how you FAIL to mention “Dr.” Ron Paul’s HEALTHPLAN (which ONLY benefits the WEALTHY)!!!!!!!!!!!!

I always read these comments about how Ron Paul supporters are crazy jerks but when you read their comments their the most logical and well thought out ideas. It makes me think this was the very mind set of the people who created this country.
I am bit radical I believe in America and all it can offer. Was that not what America has always been about defying what is said that can’t be done? I am a proud supporter of Ron Paul and if that leads to people calling me kook or kool aid drinker so be it.
Ron Paul has earned my support and admiration. Dec 16th the Tea Party begins. Bottoms up LiberTEA is Brewing!

Ron Paul is nothing more than a blip on the radar screen. After the first primary, he will resemble a bug on a winsheild.. time to beam up to the mothership.. all you Ron Paul suporters.

Thanks for the article on Dr. Paul and to GQ for recognizing the most under-estimated candidate of the election. Ron Paul is an honest man of unquestionable integrity. He is frugal and his economic policies are sound and well-researched. He has the audacity to challenge the GOP on its out-of-control foreign policy, which is bankrupting America and endangering our way of life. If being enthused by a candidate and trying to sway others to at least research his positions is considered “offensive” or “kooky”, then isn’t the MSM guilty of the same, pushing their “front-runners” and “top-tier” candidates, while ignoring other contenders, who are now catching up.

Posted by: Uniblogger | November 21, 2007, 8:59 am 8:59 am

It’s funny how first they ignore him, then they make fun of him, then they smear him, then HE WINS.
Right now we are in phase III, when a bunch of torture supporters, police statists, warmongers, inflationists, foreign aiders, and redistributionists are smearing Ron Paul.
Go Ron Paul!!!

Ron Paul is the only Republican that I would even consider for a second. He appeals to my inner libertarian. But, if he were elected, I fear he’d still be answering to the Republican good-old-boys that brought us the soaring deficit and Iraq fiasco. Even as POTUS, would he be able to change the course of the entire GOP machine? Or would he be a mouthpiece that says what we want to hear while the evil that is the GOP continues their quest to destroy America?

It’s true that there is a small but vocal minority of Ron Paul supporters who are obnoxious and rude, because most of us are polite, friendly hardworking Americans. Honest!

I’m recently retired and have never been involved in politics other than voting. For the first time in my life, I am excited about a candidate. At such a critical time in our nation’s history, we need Ron Paul to change our nation’s direction for the sake of our children and all the generations to come. Please look at his position on the issues.

Posted by: Jerry | November 21, 2007, 12:59 pm 12:59 pm

Honestly, the dumbest reason to NOT support a candidate is because of that candidate’s supporters. If you listen to a candidate or read what a candidate has written and you happen to agree, why would you not support that person because a few of his or her supporters are “over-zealous?”
As for Scott, well, he may be right. Mr. Paul may not win the nomination or the presidency. I admit it’s still a long way to go. He won’t just “disappear” after the primary, though. A lot of people–especially Republicans–would like to see that happen, but they’re gravely underestimating the effect Mr. Paul is having on the next generation of Republican voters.
If you have a problem with Mr. Paul, you’ll have a BIG problem with the future of the Republican party. The future of the party is not found in the talking points of Mr. Hannity and Mr. Limbaugh, nor is it found in the big government ideas of Mr. Cheney and Mr. Bush. Mr. Paul wants to take the party back to its roots: limited government, strong national defense, and personal liberty. He’s started the ball rolling, but he probably won’t be the one to finish it.
His supporters, however, will throw out the weasels who have hijacked the Republican name, and they’ll drag the rest of the party kicking and screaming back to where it’s supposed to be.

Yet another mainstream article that is “surprised” by the growing support for a man who wants nothing less than to save our country from its own greed, foolishness, and self-destructive apathy. It paints Dr. Paul as a charming but ineffectual Don Quixote, and his followers as kooky tin foil-capped loons. Too many self-proclaimed patriots are eager to believe the rhetoric– that to be truly patriotic means to accept the status quo, to swallow the lies we are fed on a daily basis, and to turn on anyone who dares question our leaders’ noble intentions. It is this appalling hypocrisy and subterfuge that has encouraged people from all walks of life to put their money where their mouths are in support of Ron Paul. Meanwhile, the rest of you are content to snicker behind your hands at the clever character assassination of faithful public servant. Well, enjoy the show. We don’t need your help.

Yup, he’s just what we need: a candidate who wants to do away with the CIA, FBI, and turn his head from everything else in the world that might actually have a profound effect on us. But, hey, with Israel destroyed (a clear result of RP’s foreign policies) all our problems will be over, right? The good thing will be that if you buy stock in Alcoa aluminum, you’ll be rich! A tinfoil hat on every head in America!

Posted by: charles walker | November 22, 2007, 11:33 am 11:33 am

Ron Paul is a breath of fresh air! He’s the only candidate advocating for meaningful change in our foreign policy. He’s the only candidate with the courage to stand up to corrupt monetery and tax policies. And he’s the only candidate who really embraces the Constitution, and has the public record to back up his consistency.
Wow, some folks are critical of Ron Paul because they think some of his supporters are kooky or rude? I think we could dismiss every candidate on those grounds. I’m a life-long republican–fiscally conservative with libertarian social leanings. I see countless ways that the federal government has overstepped its Constitutional authority. If I am a “kook” becasue I want the federal government’s power to be limited to the powers enumerated by the Constitution, then there is more wrong with this country than an election can fix.

Posted by: Nick | November 22, 2007, 2:03 pm 2:03 pm

I had to respond to the comment about Ron Paul having no chance to win the presidency because he doesn’t “look the part”. My gosh, have you ever seen a photo of Lincoln? If looks were the prerequite, would we currently have a guy in the White House who looks suspiciously like a monkey?

Posted by: h5mind | November 22, 2007, 5:02 pm 5:02 pm

I love Ron Paul! His position on personal liberty & personal responsibility really inspire me!
Here’s a Dr. Paul quote:
“If we don’t want the government running our lives and we get to run our lives, then we have to assume total responsibility for what we do,” he told the Ames crowd. “We have to suffer the consequences. But the great thing about this philosophy is that if you believe in life, liberty, and the right to pursue your happiness, you also believe you get to keep all of the fruits of your labor.”

Posted by: pam | November 23, 2007, 4:30 pm 4:30 pm

Ron Paul has a lifelong track record of supporting the U.S. Constitution. He consistently has the courage to stand up to an overwhelming onslaught of negative remarks by major media. Every interveiw or debate he is involved in leaves the public in awe with his simple but effective solutions to many problems this nation faces. He has all the strengths and principles that were and still are valued by the American people, yet Ron Paul can not get support from the Republican party, the Democratic party, or any major business or religious leaders in this country. This leaves these groups with the appearance of being non-supportive of the United States Constitution and the freedoms guaranteed to the American people by founders of this great nation. That being said, are the agendas of all these institutions entirely self serving in nature with no regard to individual rights?

To all of the critics of Ron Paul, who think he has no chance, keep talking. Because, when the primaries start, you might just want to stop your mindless chatter.

yay ron paul !!! you go dude . we dems know the way to get in power is to let you divide the republicans ( into the dense and denser basically…) so we can definitely get hillary into the oval office…
then the FUN begins!!!
lmao!!
funny thing about his supporters is, they DO all sound fruity. god help the intellectuals if that dolt gets in power ,hes cut right out of the ronald reagan mold. dangerously out of touch with reality and ready to open up more cans of political worms. GO RON PAUL!!!

Ron Paul will win the 2008 presidency. news reporters just push him aside like he is no big deal but he is winning every poll and has a lot of supporters so America get ready to meet your next president Dr. Ron Paul.

The only reason Ron Paul has gotten away with his campaign at all was that the ‘New World Order’ folks, hadn’t anticipated the ‘free internet’ in it’s plan.
The internet is a huge danger to the establishment because information like who really runs the world, or who really owns our ‘Central Bank’, was not common knowledge before. It is now.
This is one of the Ron Paul platforms, not regulating the internet, along with:
Ending the illegal war in Iraq.
Eliminating the illegal IRS.
Ending prohibition or the very profitable world destroying ‘war on drugs’.
Restabalizing the dollar.
Building strong borders.
Restoring private education.
Restoring, instead of replacing America itself.
The New World Order planners intend to eliminate the USA itself by combining the governments of the USA, Canada and Mexico. If you don’t believe this, if you think I am paranoid, do some research.
Google in ‘North American Alliance’ or ‘amera’.
With a little more knowledge you doubters may find that you ara a kooky Ron Paul supporter yourself.

Posted by: Joel Devin | December 7, 2007, 12:44 pm 12:44 pm

to Leon , If it wasnt for his supporters you wouldnt have heard of him. If we seem extreme or radical it is because we are inspired and its important. Do you think murder of civilians and our troops dying is not important enough? If we played the silent support role the MSM would bury him as they are trying to do. Its a revolution its gonna be loud. And for the first time ever there is a presidential candidate that im very proud to represent. And If we let this go we can be guaranteed more of the same and worse.

This country is at a crossroad….we can either slide further into warmongering, police state and tax everything that moves till it is dead or we can vote for freedom from excessive taxation, freedom from uncle sam controlling every aspect of our lives and freedom from govt programs like the federal reserve that is currently destroying the value of our currency! The One World Order crew has to go!
Vote for Freedom—RON PAUL-2008

Ron Paul upholds Christian values:
*TRUTHFULNESS (even when unpopular); *OBEY THE LAW, our constitution; *HUMILITY; *REPENTENCE (change course when a mistake was made, like in Iraq); *PRO-LIFE; *COMPASSION “let’s take care of people over here.”; *BALANCED BUDGET(cut spending, cut taxes, no borrowing). Check his record! No other candidate upholds these values so consistently & courageously. He doesn’t talk about his faith, he LIVES it, personally, professionally, & politically.
