Mysterious Fires Set in Senate Bathrooms

ABC News’ Jennifer Parker Reports: Capitol Police are trying to flush out who is responsible for a series of small fires suspiciously set inside women’s restrooms on Capitol Hill.

The mystery continued Friday morning when a small fire was detected inside a women’s restroom inside the Dirksen Senate office building.  That fire was quickly put out and no one was hurt.

The fire was the latest of about seven fires that have occurred since late September in the buildings that house senators’ offices and hearing rooms. The buildings are adjacent to the U.S. Capitol.

Compounding the mystery, most of the fires have been set inside women’s restrooms. Another fire was set Wednesday in the basement stairwell of the Hart Senate office building.

Capitol Police say investigations into the series of small fires continue, but there are no suspects and no one has been arrested.

Police have added additional patrols in the Senate office buildings.

Don’t they have a camera anywhere?

You’re completely right, perimogi. They should post cameras right outside the bathrooms looking at the door. I know it’d get sketchy if they put them IN the bathrooms (as they’d get their butts sued immediately) as to privacy concerns, but if you put one at the door, youd know all people who used a restroom in a given period of time and be able to track the fires down to a handfull of people.
