Obama, Clinton Go Toe-to-Toe Over Health Care Premiums

ABC’s Eloise Harper and Sunlen Miller Report: Barack Obama usually says that there’s “not all that much difference” between his plan for health care and those of his top Democratic opponents — Hillary Clinton and John Edwards.

But in his first post-Thanksgiving break campaign stop, the winds of change breezed in through Council Bluffs, Iowa, as Obama highlighted his differences on health care, saying that his plan does more than others’ in bringing down costs.

“My plan does more to cut the cost of health care than any other proposal in this race,” Obama told a town hall audience, “My plan would save the typical family $2,500 a year in premiums.

But Obama’s chief rival, Sen. Clinton, campaigning close by in Sac City,  Iowa, took issue with Obama’s assessment.

“Some of my opponents who are running  — they’ve put out plans," she said. "And you know everybody on the Democratic side has been talking about covering more people, but some of them don’t cover everybody. Some of them claim to cover everybody but they don’t.”

Clinton went further: “I don’t think you can run for president today without having a universal health care plan that covers every single American.”

She continued, “One of my opponents has a plan that leaves 15 million people out. That’s a lot of people.

“Once you start eliminating people or leaving people out that is just going to mushroom,” she said.

Clinton went on to address the concern Sen. Obama raised earlier.

“If you can’t afford it, we are going to give you tax care health care credits and were going to give small businesses health care tax credits because a lot of small businesses can’t afford it," she said. "This way will make it affordable, and we are going to get everybody covered.”

good job from the democratic presidential hopefuls showing real leadership , getting down to business with some meat and potates proposals to help the average working american on an important issue where that the republicans have only used to make pharmaceutical companies and health insurance companies staggering wealthy (wealthier) .
but soon my republican friends the cows are coming home to roost ,your taxes are going sky high to pay for my health care, among other things. thanks in advance btw .
yep ,pretty soon we will see who is the “do nothing” group on the hill in dc ,just wait till the new DEMOCRATIC president wields the veto sword…
my advice to republicans/rich people (same thing mostly ,cept for warren buffet maybe…) is:
get your $$ and head to somewhere, anywhere but get the @#$@# out of here you money frubbing scumbags before hillary gleans your ill gotten gains to the core to pay for her next big social program … which i sincerely hope are legion in number!!!
PAYBACK TIME!!!

Socialist much?
Oh, and last time I checked, it was the DEMS who are continually proposing new and higher taxes, so stop your bitching about how the Repubs are taking all the money. Anytime your little lowest-approval-rating-in-history Democratic Congress wants to cease & desist with the crappy pork spending that is prompting Bush to veto just to cut out the pig fat, that’d be fine by me. Hell, if they can reel that trend back in, they might get done what they promised they’d do and get the troops back home. But no, the pork is far too important.
And by the way, it’s “staggeringly wealthy.”

The recent survey reveals there are more rich Democrats in the country than Republican.Ha Huh!So which Party really care for the poor? It’s the Republican and Religious groups.

The Republican Party does NOT care for the poor. Those comments by kmjjp show that he/she evidently does not keep up with politics and the news. Democrats support expansion of government social programs. Republicans believe that the private sector should be used instead. Both parties support pork. I don’t mind pork, as long as our political leaders are taking care of the average American (ie, road construction, etc).

Baaa…Baaa…Baaa… Follow the leader blindly. You Dems are so blinded by the “pork” you have been fed so long you believe you have a right to other peoples money and posessions.

eh a minor “typo” there nitpicker. fyi, i won a spelling bee once, have you?
childish posts aside, my point was ,and remains , the rich republicans (and anyone who says that there are more rich democrats that republicans is definitely one or a combination of three things : 1) stupid 2)in denial 3) a rich lying republican) have had their way and LOOK AT THE STATE OF THIS COUNTRY!!! ITS IN A SHAMBLES IN ALMOST EVERY WAY!! the only people who would argue with that assessment are the ones who are getting rich(er) thanks to the current republican crafted moronic governmental policies, pick almost any one of them you like ,they are almost all bad and hurtful to the average american taxpayer.
the republicans in power have practically sold the usa to the chinese and the illegal aliens , most republicans care nothing about this great country ,all they care about is higher profits , more $$ , and if this country just happens go under ,well they will just take the money and run, like unethical trash always does.
yes the dems DO propose higher taxes ,but those tax hikes mainly affect the RICHEST 10% OF THE POPULACE and thats exactly whats needed now for this country to get back where it needs to be.
too much $$ is in the hands of just a tiny fraction of the citizens ,thats the nexus of the problem and it got that way mostly because of the tax cuts for the rich and big business that the republicans have pushed through with their majority over the last 20 years ,but mainly during the reagan and bush administrations.
bottom line? the rich folks had better get ready for a big load of heavy duty socialistic/nationalistic programs that will get this country back on its feet again while said programs specifically drain THEIR fatcat bank account(s) down to a more reasonable level
GO HILLARY !!!!!!!!! TAX AND SPEND LIKE CRAZY ,AND MAKE SURE THAT THOSE RICH REPUBLICANS PAY THEIR FAIR SHARE…PLUS WHAT THEY HAVE RIPPED THE COUNTRY OFF FOR OVER THE LAST 20 YEARS!!!!

AND…
anyone who wants to argue the current tax structure in this country is fair to the middle/lower class i have a good deal for you.
mr warren buffet has $1,000,000 dollars for you if you can prove it. got proof? i doubt it . just more republican rhetoric and hyperbole to confuse the uninformed ,who basically are so busy working their tails off every day to make fatcat richer, they dont have TIME to be informed ,they are too busy trying to make ends meet using less and less affordable resources ….EXACTLY THE KIND OF SCENARIO THE REPUBLICAN POWERS TREASURE AND SAVOR ,ONE THAT KEEPS THE LITTLE GUY DOWN AND OUT OF THE LOOP,FOREVER !!!
cmon, put up or shut up, quit talking and go get your cpa and call warren b up ,show your “proof” and get yourself some quick dollars. you arent doing it? why not i ask??? could it be that you are WRONG?? could it be that mr buffet is correct? i think so,otherwise someone would be quickly taking him up on his offer. that no one does proves he is right.
when someone like warren buffet testifies before congress that rich people dont pay enough taxes ,and offers a million dollars to anyone who can prove him wrong, that should be a giant wake up call to the little guy.
just one thing, he made that offer about 2 weeks ago, and so far all that has been heard from the rich sector is SILENCE!!!
they know better than to reply…

hey bah: you sound like an angry person.
First of all – it’s the Democrats that are in power, not Republicans (President vs congress – who has more power?)
additionally – anyone with a little bit of economic understanding knows that lower taxes mane more money into the system. higher taxes causes less spending – dont take my word for it – just look in economics 101.
And just so you know: the economy is much better now with this tax structure, than it was during the clinton or any other Democratic president – it’s a fact.
Jobs? Our jobless rate is the lowest it’s been over the last quarter century.

you get your deluded propoganda straight from rush limbaughs’ drug addicted babblings? everything you said is WRONG!! lol!
man o man, i see how the republican stay in power now.
1) dont spend any $$ on public education thereby increasing the number of uninformed bill garcias in the usa to maximum ,thereby insuring a large pool of easily fooled, gullible ,easily manipulated puppet voters .
poor bill …
